THE WEST OF IRELAND 2016 Colm Campbell Jnr pictured left after his hole in
one at The West of Ireland on route to the semi-
finals.
We had 3 representatives (Colm Campbell Jnr,
Stephen Coulter and Jamie Fletcher) in attend-
ance at the West of Ireland 2016.
The venue and tournament has become renowned
for producing some of the most difficult playing
conditions you will experience.
However, our guys managed them very well with
all 3 making the 18 hole reduced cut and match-
play stages. Unfortunately both Stephen and Ja-
mie bowed out in the first round but another su-
perb performance saw Colm Campbell Jnr reach
another major semi-final. Hopefully this is a sign
of what’s to come in the season ahead.
Ulster University captured the Irish Colleges
Match Play title in a nail-biting finish against UCC
at Woodbrook. Ryan Gribben, the Ulster team cap-
tain, holed the winning par putt at the 19th hole in
partnership with James Lindsay against Bill Mur-
ray and Paul Tobin for UCC.
Before the climax, Ross Dutton had defeated Ben
Murray by a margin of 2/1, giving Ulster first
blood, but Greg O'Mahony struck a blow back for
UCC with a win of his own against Neil McKinstry,
also at the 17th.
UCC had led the foursomes match playing the
last, but failed with a 15-foot par attempt to win
the match, and after both sides struggled slightly
into a stiff breeze on the long first hole, it was
Gribben and Lindsay who fared better with a win-
ning par, the UCC pair narrowly failing to get up
and down from 25 yards. -
IRISH COLLEGES MATCH PLAY
TEAM NEWS Fred Daly
Our juvenile team took on Lurgan at Lurgan on Sunday 3rd April and in difficult conditions
struggled against a very strong Lurgan team.
They will return to Warrenpoint this Sunday 10th April with high hopes of turning around a 5-0
deficit on home soil.
Ulster Cup
Warrenpoint faced Castleblaney in the first round of the Ulster Cup with the away leg first on
Sunday 3rd April. The game finished 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 in favour of the home side.
This leaves the tie finely balanced with the return leg scheduled for this Sunday 10th April at
Warrenpoint.

COURSE INFORMATION
The greens have been verti-cut and the applied sand should be absorbed into the surface in
the near future.
The 3rd, 6th, and 13th greens are now back in play.
All divots on the fairways have been repaired with seeded sand.
The wettest areas of the fairways and tees were verti-drained between the white lines.
The drains on the 18th fairway have been completed.
At the 16th hole, the banking on the road side bunker prevented the storm water from damag-
ing the sand in the bunker.
Work on the 17th tee should be completed by 6/4/2016
The tops of the trees to the south west of the men’s 7th tee box were cut to allow more sun-
light onto the grass surface, to help dry it out and encourage grass growth
The large beech tree on the left of the 12 tee box was cut down because it was in a dangerous
condition.
The fairways and green surrounds will be fertilized this month.
Due to the intermittent cold, wet weather lift, clean and place ‘through the green’ is still in play.
With improving weather, rising temperatures and further growth, preferred lies on the fairways
will be introduced and qualifying competitions will return.
