In 2011, digital product placement became a “hot” news item when people noticed a magazine with an ad for the film “Zookeeper” in a rerun of How I Met Your Mother.

Cross-Promotion
A form of marketing where customers of one product or service are targeted with promotion of a related product.
In essence, it is a way to attract more customers with less effort.
Examples: 1) Oprah talking about her books, magazine, etc., on
her show.2) Two companies working together mobile network
and musician promoting “exclusive ringtones”3) Tie-ins (i.e. Burger King)
