This is against the mainstream conventions now as many people don't like to make eye contact as they find it ‘awkward’. He is also smoking, this shows us that he is quite rebellious and there is another side to him, a side where he does what he wants to do with his life and he makes up the rules. This represents social groups by showing its okay to be independent and against what people want and almost expect of you. His clothing is ordinary and quite plain, so this gives us a view that he is easily approachable and accessible to the target audience. He is wearing a tracksuit top, which is quite commonly stereotyped with, disrespectful youths and trouble makers, this might imply that he likes to cause trouble or has previously in his life. It shows us he is against the majority and likes to rebel. The setting is outdoors and surreal which gives off a lonely impression of him. Somewhere that he can be himself and do what he pleases.
