Question 2 – 'How effective is the combination of your main product

and ancillary texts?'

● Firstly, I have noticeably combined both my ancillary texts by including the front album onto my magazine. This was influenced from artists such as Katy perry and Lana Del Rey. The reason for doing this was so that the audience were able to clearly identify and link both together.

Moreover, I have used the same picture featured on both my magazine advert and digipak.

The synergy created through this image in my magazine advert and digipak ultimately makes it easier for the audience to identify a relation and similarity between these two media products.

The artist (Laurent) is posed as looking directly at the camera which is invasive and personal and also uses mode of address which therefore presents him as a typical ballad artist whom interacts with his audience.

This image which has been previously mentioned is a recurring theme as in the main product (music video) we have used many close up shots too, this helping create Laurent an identity as an artist and allowing the audience to feel emotionally connected to both his music and him as an artist.

In addition, in regards to the image used, whilst researching magazine adverts etc, it was made evident to me that a majority of artists in fact feature some of the most iconic scenes in their music video to images in their magazine advertisement/ digipak.

I therefore applied this convention to my own products.

I have made sure that the colour scheme is the same throughout my media texts (magazine advertisement and digipak), this adding to the overall brand/artist awareness for the audience.

To add, the process of both myself and my partner deciding the font for both texts was extremely important as when we both done research, we were informed that font style, size and colour varies depending on the artist.

With this in mind, I decided to research Enrique's magazine/digipak for some guidance. It could be said that our font has therefore been highly influenced from him.

● Lastly, I have included Laurent's 'hyperreal' social media accounts/details, e.g. Twitter & Facebook so that the audience are able to interact with him.

Due to the fast growth of social media in today's generation, this was extremely important and effective for us to include as many artists use this platform to help establish, promote and market themselves as artists and their music and clearly allows them to build up interaction with their adoring fans.

By implenting the famous 'hash-tag' # , it allows the audience to instantly link both the artist and Twitter together, this ultimately promoting him as an artist.

● To conclude, I believe that the combination of my main product and my ancillary texts are very effective as I have implemented what I have researched in order to make my artist more realistic and to fit in to today's music world. To add, all details such as images, fonts, and colour schemes have all been used efficiently, this allowing the audience to link and recognise both the music video and ancillary texts which was our obvious goal.
