Lacke und AnwendungsbereicheLacke und Beschichtungen werden mit unterschiedli-chen Zielsetzungen verwendet. Die nachfolgendenPunkte zeigen Beispiele der Hauptanwendungen, woMCS-Systeme zum Einsatz kommen.

Glanz & Qualität mit UV-LackenGlanzeffekte in optimaler Form sind das Ziel bei UV-Lackanwendungen. MCS-Heizsysteme mit Doppel-wandbehältern temperieren die Lacke so, dass dieViskositätswerte im Arbeitsbereich der Auftragswerkeliegen.Mit MCS-Systemen erhält der Anwender die Möglich-keit, hochviskose Lacke mit Startviskositäten von 120Sekunden und mehr (DIN 4 mm Becher) zu verwen-den, ohne sonst am Lackwerk eingreifen zu müssen.Hinzu kommt, dass die Maschinen mit erwärmten unddamit niedrigviskosen Lacken höhere Druck-Geschwindigkeiten erbringen können.

Gold, Silber & BronzeMetallisierte Lacke erzeugen auf dem Produkt opti-sche Höhepunkte. Mit MCS-Systemen werden Gold-,Silber- und Bronzefarben gekühlt und schonend miteinem Spezialrührwerk durchmischt, somit wird einAbsetzen der Partikel verhindert und die Druckqualitätkonstant gehalten.Durch die Kühlung werden zwei Ziele erreicht. DieLacke haben eine bessere Langzeitstabilität durch dieverringerte Verdunstungsrate und Rückführung derKondensniederschläge im Behälter, zum anderen wirdeine stark verringerte, teilweise völlig beseitigteSchaumbildung vermerkt. Beides bedeutet wieder eineverbesserte Lackier-Qualität.

Stabilität für Dispersions-LackeDispersionslacke sind oft in der Anwendung unkritisch,einfache Behälter und Pumpen werden verwendet.Es kommt aber auch mitunter zu Problemen, wenndiese Lacke sich erwärmen, die Oberfläche und IhreEigenschaften auf dem lackierten Produkt weichendann von den gewünschten Ergebnissen ab.Auch hier schaffen MCS-Kühlsysteme Abhilfe durchdie bessere Langzeitstabilität und teilweise stark redu-zierte Schaumbildung.

Temperierte Dispersionslacke, erhöhter GlanzBesserer Glanz mit Wasser-Dispersionslacken kannerreicht werden, wenn hoch pigmentierte und viskoseLacke zum Einsatz kommen.Spezielle MCS-Heizsystemen stabilisieren die Lack-temperatur auf den gewünschten hohen Wert undmessen und regeln die Viskosität. Wasser bzw. einentsprechendes Wasser-Gemisch wird automatischbei Bedarf zugeführt.Für Langzeit-Druckaufträge ist eine automatischeNachdosierung vorhanden.

Coatings and ApplicationsCoatings, inks and varnish are used with various tar-gets in the printing companies. The following pointsshow some examples where the usage of MCS-Systems is seen in the production.

Gloss & Quality for UV-CoatingsUV-coatings are used to reach optimized gloss effects.MCS-heating systems with double walled stainlesssteel tanks adjust the coating regarding the viscosityand temperature to meet the working range of theprinting stations.Using MCS-technology enables the customer to workwith highest viscosity coatings of 120 sec. (DIN 4 mmcup) or even more without changing other parts of hismachine.Additionally the printing machine can work with ahigher speed, when the coatings are available withhigher temperature - that means with lower viscosity.

Gold, Silver & BronzeMetallized inks bring out optical highlights for theprinted products. With MCS systems those gold, silveror bronze coatings are kept cool and carefully mixedby a special stirrer. The ink with its heavy particles willbe homogenous, the printing quality will be constant.With the cooling function, two targets are seen for thecoating. A consistency over a much longer time is real-ized by a reduced tendency of evaporation and a per-manent return flow of the condensed liquid parts insidethe tank. On the other side the customers notice a re-duced or fully eliminated foaming of the coating. Bothpoints are basic elements to get best quality at thecoating machine.

Stability for Water-DispersionsDispersion coatings are normally easy to handle andto use, simple tanks and pumps will do a good job.But also here problems can be seen, if the coatingtemperature gets to warm, the surface and characte-ristics of the coated product will not meet the wishesand targets of the end-customer.MCS cooling systems can help here as well to see abetter consistency and a reduced foaming activity ofthe coating in the tanks - at the machines.

Temperature-aqueous-coatings for better glossIncreased and better gloss effects with water disper-sions can be reached by using modern, high pig-mented and high viscosity coatings.Special heating system will heat up to a basic tem-perature of the coating, the fully automatic opti-colorviscosity control will permanently measure the viscos-ity and add needed water or water mixture any time toget a constant coating quality.For longer print jobs the systems are equipped with anautomatic level control and refill.

For complete MCS systems there is theoption to integrate pumps and the pumpcontrol into the systems, this is forexample mostly chosen along with cabi-net systems.

If by our standard recommendation thereare mobile MCS systems used, then it isa logical decision to take also mobilepump units like the MCS 100-PU.

At least we also offer single pumps to useat your machine as exchange part forolder units or in addition to existingpumps to support quick coating changesand to avoid mixing of different coatingsin only one available pump.

The CVC is the final step fully control of allparameters for the coatings but also more.

The special software is calculating duringthe production the actual consumption fromthe coating tanks. So in can be used as aquality control instrument during the runningprocess to give data, which are normallyonly available by offline checks. Constantquality is clearly linked to constantconsumption rates, CVC is offering thisinformation to the demanding customer.

Tanks with different standardvolumes and special designwill support the viscosity andtemperature control regardingaccuracy and reaction time.The Long-Life-Design ofwelded stainless steel willguarantee the function even inthe harder production sides.

Active foam reduction isensured by the ORV stirrerswith increased impellers andgear unit for variable speedsettings. This will also uniformthe volume regarding viscosityand temperature.

Automatic level control is optionally available e.g. withultrasonic sensors. Dosing valves or refill pumps can beactived directly. The refill line is optionally equipped with aefficient volume measurement to calculate the consumptionrates and to indicate the production data on the CVC display.

Temperature controls Finally the heating and cooling functioncan be chosen as an extra for the tanks. The tanks then willbe double walled, a heater element is integrated into thedouble bottom of the tank and for cooling we recommend aseparate cooling unit for water circulation.

Water and solvent based coatings change the viscosity bypermanent evaporation of these components. The resultwould be a changing film thickness, which means a changingand lower coating quality on the cores.

opti-color viscosity controls measure during the workingprocess the effective viscosity values. In case of even smallincreases of the viscosity, the necessary amount ofwater/solvent is added automatically.

This is done with the well proven OBDsensors and the Multi VC control boxes.The values are shown in seconds based ontest cups or can be even programmed to beequal to thickness for certain applicationsand coatings.

The oc-4000 Software is offering thepossibility to connect up to 12 VCviscosity controllers to a network and acentral PC-System. Data recording,displays and changes parameters canbe done via this solution.

Temperature Control for Coating and Machine

Temperature controls can beintegrated by the usage of doublewalled tank design or with the helpof inline-heat-exchanger oc-S3.With these elements even alreadyexisting installations can beupgraded in a simple way.

In double walled tanks the heating elements are installed inthe bottom, the transfer is done indirectly via water filling inbottom and walls. Cooling unts are connected externally tocirculate chilled water through the tank in case temperatureof the coating is higher than the wanted setpoint.

Chiller / Cooling units are available for coating as well as withincreased capacities for the connection to inker and othermachine parts, where controlled, cool water is necessary.

18 kW cooling rates can beoffered e.g. to supply 8 inker/stations from one central position.Other sizes and rates areavailable on request. Help withindividual calculations is offeredof course by opti-color.
