Niagara University MBA News Bisgrove Hall Niagara University, N.Y. 14109 December 2016 Ingram Micro Holds Informative Panel Session at Niagara University NU’s Office of Career Services, supported by the College of Business Administration, hosted an Oct. 20 campus visit by Ingram Micro, No. 64 on the Fortune 500 list of largest U.S. companies. Ingram Micro was represented by several executives, recruiters and Niagara University alumni. Forty-seven students attended the session to learn more about the global company, which maintains a local presence with more than 1,600 employees. Jamie Ferullo, director of the Hewlett- Packard Enterprise Business Unit at Ingram Micro, provided an overview of the effect of cloud computing on the industry. Here is data that corresponds with our new marketing campaign: • Niagara has the highest four-year graduation rate in Western New York. • Ninety-six percent of our graduates are either employed or in graduate studies within one year of graduating. • We have a record freshman-to-sophomore student retention rate of 88 percent. • We offer a holistic community of the academy and workplace with a faculty whose research is second to none, and our engagement of teaching and instruction is exemplary. Welcome New Faculty Dr. Todd Inouye received his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. His business-related experience includes social work, civil service, small business consultation, and nonprofit work. Dr. Victor Pimentel completed his Ph.D. from the Carson College of Business at Washington State University in May 2016. His research developed a new optimization approach that executes allocation and overbooking under a hotel environment. Professor Hai Ta joined NU in August 2016. He received his Ph.D. in accounting from Drexel University and his MBA from Syracuse University. His research interest is capital market research; in particular, the determinants and consequences of financial reporting quality. Dr. Randall Cragun joined the Niagara faculty this fall after completing his Ph.D. at Clemson University in May. He learned to think like a scientist while earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oregon State University, and he “accidentally” earned a second bachelor’s degree while taking courses at the University of Oregon to prepare for grad school.

NU Hosts Networking Event for Future Accountants and Finance Pros

Niagara University’s annual Meet the Accounting and Finance Professionals Night was held Sept. 13 in the Castellani Art Museum. The event, which is co-sponsored by the College of Business Administration and the Office of Career Services, gave accounting and finance students the opportunity to meet and network with local accounting firms, banks, insurance companies, and government agencies. MBA Student Highlight: Korinne Thorne

Korinne, who graduated summa cum laude his past May with her B.S. in biology, is a student in our MBA Healthcare Administration

program and adjunct professor in anatomy and physiology here at Niagara. Korinne served her last semester as captain of our Division 1 women’s soccer team in spring. She has been accepted to medical school at the University of Buffalo and is very eager to start her career in family medicine with a focus on global health medicine, with the goal of becoming a medical missionary doctor. She is also interested in opening a Third World clinic or a practice for marginalized groups in the U.S.

MBA Student Receives Scholarship

MBA strategic marketing student Marlin Harper is the recipient of a 2016 Ford Scholarship from the National Black Association

(NBMBAA). Marlin transferred from Syracuse University after he graduated with his B.S. in marketing and finance, and currently works at ParMed Pharmaceuticals at Cardinal Health.“I really did not think I would be able to obtain an advanced degree,” he said. “Nevertheless, the flexible schedules and the great teachers at NU have allowed me to achieve the impossible.”For information on graduate scholarships and assistantships please visit www.niagara.edu/gradaid/.
