CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN TILES?CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN TILES?Ceramic tiles are generally made from a clay base or a mixture of clay with other materials added, finished witha hard glaze which carries the colour and pattern. They are then kiln fired, much the same as you would fire acoffee cup or a vase at a ceramic class. The clay is usually red or white. My experience has been, the redderthe clay base the less expensive and less durable the tile. I have found that generally the greyer the bisque or

clay the more durable the tiles. These tiles can be used on both the floor and wall. If you chip them you will usu-ally see the clay bisque, as the colour will come off with the chipped glaze.

Ceramic tiles are generally a softer product, that cuts easier, and has a higher water absorption rate, and should not be used outside, or in conditions that may freeze.

Porcelain tiles are generally made by what is known as the dust pressed method from porcelain clay. This results in a denser tile, impervious, fine grained and generally smooth.

Porcelain tiles can be crafted to look more like natural stones, and come glazed or unglazed, have a lower water absorption rate and areextremely durable. Some Porcelain tiles are classed as frost proof, with a water absorbtion rate of less than .5%.

These can be used outdoors on porches, walkways, sunrooms etc., and unglazed are recommended.Most consumers are under the impression that Porcelain tiles have the colour all the way through so that if they chip, you cannot tell.

This is only true in what we call a full body Porcelain tile, which are generally more expensive than regular Porcelain tiles.

EASY STEPSEASY STEPS(NC)—Mounting a TV on the wall is fairly easy to do for the average do-it-yourselferand safer than setting it on a piece of furniture. Here are the basics of a typical mount-ing project:

1. Select a location on the wall where you want your TV to go. Place the TV at eye levelto avoid neck and eye strain.

2. Use a stud finder to locate wood studs. Stud finders are fairly inexpensive and are aninvestment that will come in handy for many household projects.

3. Secure the wall plate to the wall after pre-drilling holes into the studs. If installing into concrete or brick, insert a concrete anchor into each drill hole until it's flush with the wall. If your wall has metal studs, ask the mount manufacturer if they offer adapter kits—most do.

4. Align the mounting holes on the back of the TV with the holes on the wall mount and attach.

5. Attach the mount (with TV) to the wall plate and inspect your work to make sure everything has been properly assembled.

Ask your local electronics retailer for help in selecting a mount for your TV or try one ofthe many online compatibility tools

Always remember to install your mount according to the manufacturer's directions. Be advised that depending on the weight of your TV, your installation may require two

people, so ask a friend to help.
