This has been an exciting month. We had another church start and the second Evangelism Trailer will be up and running by the end of this month.

Please be in prayer for as we try to target the City of San Bernardino with new church starts.

James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

Let us watch what we say and continue to love those around us.

Unity within the church has always been and continues to be a critical issue. Unity in the church comes from two sources. One of the sources is spiritual and the other one is operational. The spiritual source is the power of the Holy Spirit. The operational source is organizational alignment. “And knowing their thoughts, He said to them, „Any kingdom that is divided against itself is being brought to desolation and laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will last or continue to stand.‟ ”--- Matthew 12:25 (AMP) A church in disunity is a divided church. A divided church cannot grow either spiritually or

numerically. A unified church that is spiritually and organizationally healthy will result from a combination of the leader‟s vision for what the ministry will look like, God‟s divine principles that the church establishes as its core values, and a well designed mission statement that concisely states the ministry essentials that will direct the organization into the future, and most importantly the empowering work of the Holy Spirit.

Let me begin by thanking all of you who attended Equipped for Excellence and the numerous volunteers

who helped out in so many ways. With over 1110 in attendance it is our prayer and expectation that they

will be able to utilize what they learned and take that back to their churches with God being glorified and

His kingdom advanced! We are sending out this month‟s Clarion early for one reason! That is to promote

the “Fresh Encounter” conference led by Henry Blackaby at Magnolia Baptist Church. (Pastors: If you are

interested in having one of the Blackaby team members speak at your church that morning, please contact

me.) I also want to let you know that we will have our second evangelism trailer ready for use by the first week in May. This

is a true blessing and we are grateful for your support so that we can get this second trailer up and running so quickly. The

first trailer is already booked for most of the year. This second trailer will be a blessing to numerous churches as they

engage in outreach events. The second trailer will have everything except the stage, we hope to add a smaller stage in the

future. This is an example of how churches cooperating together can be a blessing to other churches as we engage in the

kingdom work of God. Once again thank you for supporting us so that events like Equipped for Excellence and ministry

tools like the evangelism trailers are made possible.

Vacation Bible School Clinic Bring your entire V.B.S. team for a day of great tips and training. The clinic will be on Saturday, May 14th. We will meet at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church, 8351 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The following conferences will be offered: directors, adults, youth, children, preschool as well as each rotation for games, snacks, crafts, missions and music. We are also offering a conference in Spanish. There will be an onsite bookstore for all of your V.B.S. needs. You can purchase material at the clinic or order the items that you need and they will be shipped to your church.

Equipped for Excellence God certainly blessed at the 21st annual Equipped for Excellence training event on April 9th. There were 1,158 in attendance, that‟s an in-crease of 160 (or 16%) over last year. I want to thank Dr. Ron Ellis, President of California Baptist University and Montia Setzler, Pastor of Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church for hosting the event. We thank God for their gracious hospitality! There were well over a hundred people who worked hard to make the day go smoothly. I‟ll mention just a few here: Nancy Ling, John Davis, Allison Roberts, Claudio Medina, Glenda Jepson, Earl Harris, Corey Polk and Kevin Pawley. Many of these folks had teams from their churches that helped out. This is in addition to the 43 conference leaders. Thanks to Brian Kennedy, who did a great job with the keynote message. I want to especially thank my Ministry Assistant, Bobbie Brooks, who worked tirelessly to put this event together. We also want to thank The Healthy Church Group of the California So. Baptist Convention, LifeWay Christian Resources and the Christian Community Credit Union for their support. There were many, many others who had a part in making the day special. Thanks to all of you. God knows of your service and He is not likely to forget it. I am grateful to God for all of you.

Sunday School Director’s Meeting On Tuesday, May 3rd we will finish our look at How to Start a New Sunday School or Sunday School Class. We will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Association Office. The class will also be offered in Spanish. Refreshments will be served.

Pastor’s and Sunday School Directors Planning Workshop Richard Young, Minister of Education at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ontario, will lead this workshop on Saturday, July 9th at Palm Baptist Church, 6807 Palm Avenue, Riverside. It will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 noon. The purpose is to provide you with some ideas for growth this fall.

Desert Area Bible Study Workshop This event will be on Sunday, May 1st at Palms Baptist Church, 5285 Adobe Rd, Twenty-nine Palms. Dr. Jeff Iorg will be speaking on Experiencing God’s Power in Your Life. We will begin with a dinner at 4:00 p.m. and the workshop will follow at 5:30 p.m. There will be childcare for those up to third grade. The event is free.

Annual National Bible Bee

First Baptist Church of Rialto

First Baptist Church of Rialto is excited to announce the beginning of the 2011 Bible Bee season. Contestant registration runs from April 1st through May 31st, and official contest materials will be released on June 1st. Every contestant will receive a Bible, Scripture memory cards, inductive Bible study curriculum, a T-shirt and more as part of registration.

The Shelby Kennedy Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the spiritual growth of the entire family through Bible study, Scripture memorization and prayer, launched the National Bible Bee in 2009. The competition challenges youth from ages 7 to 18 years in Bible knowledge and memorization first at Local Contests held around the country at the end of August, and then at a National Competition held in November for the top 300 contestants from across the nation. The winners of the National Bible Bee Competition are awarded $260,000 in cash prizes, as well as other awards. In addition to the exciting competition, National contestants and their families enjoy a variety of family activity rooms, musical performers, guest speakers, a vendor hall and a formal banquet. The Young at Heart Conference is a one-day event on Thursday, May 12, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to the public. It will include experts in every field from local service providers, cri-sis management, and retirement experts to equip and assist you for life‟s “second half” to make life better after 50.
