First Communion is this Weekend (May 4th,5th) (To be Celebrated at All Masses except 7:00 p.m.)
As our young people prepare to receive Holy Communion the first time (of many!), let us reflect and remind ourselves of a few things. The church still maintains (although honestly rather minimal) a "Communion Fast."Before the Second Vatican council there was a strict fast from midnight before one could receive Holy Communion. Pope Paul VI reduced the fasting requirement after the Second Vatican Council, requiring only a one hour fast from all food and drink (excluding water). This may be reduced to 15 minutes for those who are sick or for other important reasons. This is the requirement currently in practice, and should not be ignored. Some people argue that gum also breaks the fast. Even if it doesn't break the fast, it is inappropriate to chew gum at any time in church! Please keep these things in mind as we give a good example to our children and others as we come to worship and give thanks!
Peace......frdave

"Therefore go and make Disciples of all Nations."This is the mission Jesus has given us, his church and all its members. For many months a steering committee comprised of St. Patrick parishioners has been operating with the guidance of the Parish Success Group, a national organization to help churches develop strategic plans, to do a comprehensive review of where we are as a parish in order to make concrete goals for the future. The steering committee has chosen two areas for our parish to set goals: outreach and spiritual renewal.Outreach: We will strive to be a welcoming, servant church. Jesus' example of easing suffering first and instructing later calls us to meet the needs of others both with and without a church home. Jesus starts with love and understanding, opening the doors to authentic discipleship.Spiritual Renewal: We will work to focus each ministry on being a catalyst for growth and to make sharing our faith a core experience. It is easy to fall into spiritual complacency but Jesus calls us to more. It is easy to keep our faith to ourselves and focus only on our own journey, but Jesus tells us to let our light shine before others. Please look to future bulletins for updates on our progress and how you will be asked to participate.
