FROM THE DESK OF FATHER ANTHONY…………………………………
BLESSED AND GLORIOUS EASTER!! Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us today the He is the Vine and we are the branches. We were grafted to the Divine Vine at our Baptism; Confirmation strengthens our bond with the Lord and other members of the Church; and every time we receive the Holy Eucharist we also receive nourishment in order that we may bear fruit. Safeguard your connection with the Lord and the Church – never allow the branch to be cut off as a result of sin. The Sacraments will fill us with the life and love of Jesus Christ. This Saturday, May 8, we will celebrate the Sixteenth Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church. Mass will be offered at 10:00AM – I hope that you will be able to come and thank God for the gift of having a place to worship Him and a place that allows us to be strengthened in order that we can then practice our faith outside of the walls of the church building. “O God, Who year by year renew for us the day when this Your holy temple was consecrated, hear the prayers of Your people and grant that in this place for You there may always be pure worship and for us, fullness of redemption. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
As mentioned last week in the bulletin, Thursday, May 13 is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. Usually a holy day of obligation, the feast day is not a holy day this year due to the dispensation the Bishops have granted because of the pandemic. Nevertheless, we will celebrate the Ascension of the Lord with two Masses – we will celebrate on Wednesday, May 12, at 7:00PM, and again on Ascension Thursday, May 13, at 8:00AM. I hope that you will be able to assist at Mass at either time. Immediately after the celebration of our Lord’s Ascension into Heaven, the Church begins the yearly period of intense prayer for the Descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. We will pray the Pentecost Novena after Mass from Friday, May 14, through Saturday, May 22. Because of the Novena, we will have Mass on Saturday mornings May 15 and May 22. Please note that the parish office will be closed on Ascension Thursday.
We will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with several of our young parishioners on Saturday, May 22 at the 5:30PM Mass and then again at the 11:00AM Mass on Sunday, May 23. As the Gift of the Holy Spirit descends on the Church once again at Pentecost, we pray that the Holy Spirit will also sanctify our 12 candidates who are receiving this Sacrament of Initiation.
We have another good Diocesan Lenten Appeal report to share! We are now at $81,521 – this is $32,010 over our diocesan goal of $49,511. We have received 159 gifts from parishioners and friends of the parish – thank you to all who are participating. As I have mentioned before, no gift is too small or insignificant, so if you are “on the fence” about supporting the DLA, please know that your gift will go a little further than regular contributions, due to the fact that the DLA proceeds are not subject to diocesan assessments.
Did you catch the typo in last week’s bulletin? When I was quoting Pope Francis, I should have written “God looks on the heart.” I am sure that St. Joseph had “good looks,” ☺ but God is much more interested in our hearts than our appearances.
GOD THE FATHER OF MERCIES, HAVE MERCY ON US! GOD THE SON, JESUS CHRIST, OUR SAVIOR AND LORD, RISEN FROM THE DEAD,
HAVE MERCY ON US! GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT, OUR CONSOLER, HAVE MERCY ON US! ST. JOSEPH, PRAY FOR US!
