Fifth Sunday of Easter St. Joseph’s Parish Bulletin –May 18/19, 2019 LOVE IS FROM THE HEART Christ told his disciples, “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). This applies as well to harboring grudges in our hearts. Love goes beyond kind words and actions to the very heart of man: to our thoughts. Although it may initially cause distress to our will to think well of those who have hurt us, it is truly therapeutic! Our Lord said, “From the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy” (Matthew 15:19). Likewise, a heart that actively looks for the good in others will form the habit of speaking well and acting kindly towards those who naturally are displeasing. Thinking well of others renews our faith in God’s mercy. If we are merciful, how much more we can expect Our Lord to be patient and merciful with us! CONVERSATION WITH CHRIST My Jesus, your life is witness of love to me. You forgave your enemies and even prayed for them. My love is to mirror your love, but I realize I can love so much more than I have loved until now. Help me today to increase my love and let go of those remnants of egoism that hold me back from a Christ-like love. RESOLUTION I live life but once. So today I will analyze how I use my time and resolve to eliminate one of the bad habits that leads me to waste time. (Fr. LESSONS FROM A WATERMELON SEED It would take thousands of watermelon seeds to weigh a pound. Yet when one single seed is planted and nurtured under the right conditions, it can produce several watermelons that weigh forty or fifty pounds each. Such are the wonders of nature – and the miracle-working God who is the master force behind nature’s grand design. Just a watermelon seed multiplies itself by several thousand times, God can make of us far more than we are if will let him work his miracles in our lives.

HE HAS OPENED THE DOOR

Saint Paul left an enduring mark on the Church. Until his ministry

began, the followers of Jesus were seen to be no more than one of the many sects of the Jewish religion. In fact,

the first believers maintained dual worship. They were united by their faith in Jesus, but they continued the customs of the older religion. Paul saw

Christianity as something completely new. It is a religion in its own right. He did this when he baptized former pagans and did not insist that they continue Old Testament customs. Some Christian groups seem to be more grounded in the Old Testament and its harsh laws. Christianity must be seen as something totally new, based upon the New Testament law of love.
