CBBC are also doing a daily, three hour block
of primary school programmes from 9am.
Challenge: To build towers / castles using blocks or junk modelling boxes.
(See attached—Building towers)
Today’s maths and literacy task is combined. Use blocks or junk modelling box-
es to build a castle or a house for a Giant. Whilst building and creating talk
about;
*the size and shapes of different blocks/boxes
*use language to compare similarities and differences in size
*question your child to think about which block or modelling box would be the
best to use and why…?
You could even paint it when finished and don’t forget to add windows and
doors…
Show me: Photograph and stick in maths book. Adult to scribe children’s com-
ments around the outside of the photograph.
Examples:
“It has a cylinder
near the top” “It is pointy at
the top”
Challenge: (As above—see Maths)
Challenge: Recall all phonemes—use the flashcards sent home before the
Christmas break to recall all letter sounds or use ‘PHASE 2 / 3 LETTER SOUNDS’
pdf.
Tricky task: Practise saying and forming the ‘d’ sound. Have a go at ‘Bouncy
Blending’ activity.
(Remember you don’t need hoops—just place letters in order on
the floor. You could also try this on a small scale and use a figure
such as ‘Batman’ to jump along the letters. Don’t forget to en-
courage your child to blend the word at the end.
Try words such as—did, mad, sad, sid, man, sat...
Trickier task: Practise saying and forming the ‘oa’ digraph.
Have a go at ‘Bouncy Blending’ activity.
(Remember you don’t need hoops—just place letters in order on the floor. You
could also try this on a small scale and use a figure such as ‘Batman’ to jump
along the letters. Don’t forget to encourage your child to blend the word at the
end.
Try words such as— boat, coal, load, keep, night, rain
Later, you might like to practise writing the words in your book.

Challenge: High Frequency Word (HFW’s) practise
Lay out the HFW’s. Point to the words at random and see whether your child
can recall them.
(HFW’s have been sent home in the envelope prior to the Christmas break. If
you require more, please find them attached).
Tricky: Read words without sounding out.
Trickier: Write words without looking at the flashcards.
Practise the words that your child has found difficult.
Challenge: Balancing
See ‘Home learning challenge task’: Balancing.
(If you do not have a balloon to balance, try something else such as a soft ball, a
teddy bear or a sponge).
Afterwards:
Talk about how being healthy and exercising is good for your body.
Ask your child to think of different exercises that can help them get stronger and
bigger muscles. Explain that muscles are needed to help them do different
tasks like walking, lifting, carrying etc.
