“Math is conveyed as a really hard subject that is uninteresting, inaccessible and only for ‘nerds’...”

The Battle I Fight
✗ That students are born with innate mathematical ability
✗ That parents use the phrase “That’s ok, I wasn’t good at math either”
✗ Colleagues, that through no fault of their own, perpetuate the idea that there are Math People

Math == CREATIVEMath is messy. Math is language. Math is more.

Week of Inspirational Math
Attitude trumps quantity.

3.Ideas
mARTh in Action
http://bit.ly/FTLOMACSPadlet: http://bit.ly/mARThFLOMACS
One Cut Geometry
Problem solving at its finest.
We identify strategies, even in problems that are difficult to solve.
We also identify shape and line within the same project, and create 2 dimensional pieces of art.

Geometric Frankenstein’s Monster
Easy as identifying shapes in the art we make.
The beauty of geometric constraints.
The assessment is in the description.

Stamping By Ten
Quantity relationships are hard.
Understanding what ten more is even more difficult when dealing with bigger numbers.
We stamp, and stamp again. Using sponge carving to create 3D tools.

Symmetry on Black
Symmetry may be the easiest entrance to art and math.
Any design that is symmetrical is pleasing to the eye, and creates a way to assess both math and art.

Let’s Cut Fractals
A way to create a three dimensional art piece that creates many entrances to assessing math skills, like estimation, multiplication, and problem solving.

There are so many ways
Find a piece you like
Apply the Curricula
Have Fun!
