SESSION 1 JUNE 27 – JULY 1

AM Session Superhero Cartoon Camp Ages 5 -10Pow! Bang! Wow! Now you can learn to draw your own comic book superhero. Eachday we will complete several drawings while we explore a variety of characters. Wewill learn to draw the basic superhero body and adapt it to the character of our choice.We will learn to draw action and movement while we complete the scenes around oursuperheroes, using pencils, markers and Sharpies™. Our collection of drawings willbe impressive! We will also start to apply these characters within a comic book styleon the final day. This camp is great for girls and boys as basic comic book creatingskills will be taught and individual characters created.

PM Session Pastel Drawing Camp – Animals of Africa Ages 5 – 10In this session, our Young Rembrandts’ students will find themselves captivated byexotic African beasts. Our “Animals of Africa” Pastel Drawing offers a challenging 5day course. Our students will learn about some of Africa’s most majestic animals asthey illustrate them using pastel chalks. An antelope showcased within a mélange ofpatterns, a stylized zebra with a creative color palette and a regal lion are a few of thebeasts to be explored this summer! No experience is necessary. Please wear an oldshirt or smock to each day of class.

SESSION 2 JULY 18 – JULY 22

AM Session Pastel Drawing Camp – Ocean Life Ages 5 - 10Five, fun-filled days await our students as we explore ocean life as they learn to drawand color with pastels. We will create detailed, pastel compositions on each day,focusing on a different ocean-themed subject. We will draw eye-catching sea starsalong the shoreline and a pair of vibrant clown fish. We will illustrate a sea turtle withbold patterns, a blue crab and a wondrous scene of jellyfish. Our instruction will bringremarkable results, and you will want to head to the frame shop with your child’s fin-ished pastel pieces. These pastel drawings will reward students with a great sense ofpride and accomplishment.

PM Session Animal Cartoon Camp Ages 5 - 10Laugh-out-loud-funny! Mind-bendingly-adorable! Awesome-beyond-belief! These arejust some of the words that best describe our Cartoon Animals Camp. If your child isa fan of cuddly animals and funny cartoons, this drawing camp is especially tailoredfor his or her needs. Over the course of five days, our students will learn how to drawanimals of all shapes, sizes, and colors. They will learn how to personify ordinary ani-mals, transforming them into fully-realized cartoon characters. Be a part of the some-thing fun and special.

SESSION 3 AUG. 8 – AUG. 12

AM Session Enchanted Academy Drawing Camp Ages 5 – 10Be prepared to be whisked away to an enchanted academy where nothing is as itseems. Experience the majesty of the great dining hall as our students illustrate abeautiful graphic. Amuse yourself in the not-so-ordinary life of the academy with aplethora of cartoon drawings. From drawing an enchanted forest to a day at the raceswith dragons, it’s nothing but fun in our classroom. Pirates and Princess drawing les-sons will also be added to our enchanted academy.

PM Session Master Artists Drawing Camp Ages 5 – 10Spend time learning about and replicating some Master Artists with YoungRembrandts. We will draw a variety of awe-inspiring images from many familiar artis-tic masters, all while exploring different media. We will create a large scene reminis-cent to Roy Lichtenstein’s “Still Life with Figurine” from 1974. We will explore themany ways to illustrate shadow and light using techniques that Lichtenstein used.Wewill also become caricaturists and create unique cartoons of many famous artists. Thefinal day allows us to explore pastel chalks as we learn about Paul Cezanne and hismastery of light and color. We become Masters ourselves! No experience neces-sary. Please wear an old shirt or smock on the last day.

SESSION 4 AUG. 15 – AUG. 19

AM Session Fashion Runway Drawing Camp Ages 5 – 10This stylish Young Rembrandts workshop is tailored for the aspiring fashionista. Joinus for 5 days of runway chic as we illustrate the various aspects of fashion design.Step into the shoes of a fashion magazine editor as you design and draw an eye-catching fashion magazine cover. And let’s not forget about purses! Design the per-fect purse to go along with the outfit of your dreams. And finally, draw your modelstepping out onto the runway in your fashion originals. If you love to design clothesand are hip to the latest fashions, this drawing workshop is a perfect fit.

PM Session Exploring Egypt Camp Ages 5 – 10This session will explore the mysterious world of Egypt with Young Rembrandts! Wewill spend five days digging into how the Egyptians lived. We will investigate decora-tive objects in the treasured tombs including sarcophagi, hieroglyphics and more. Wewill create drawings full of artifacts and Egyptian imagery using a variety of media,including markers, color pencils, Sharpies™ and more. In fact, our final day will con-sist of a large drawing using pastel chalk.

DRIVER EDUCATIONPA-certified Driver Education Theory and Skills Course(classroom only) for new drivers will be conducted by theDefensive Driving Academy, Inc. of Broomall beginningJune 14. This 30-hour course will be held at theCommunity Center on Tuesday and Thursday eveningsfrom 6:00pm to 9:00pm each night. Minimum age toattend is 15. This course is recommended for high schoolstudents preparing for either their permit test and/or theirdriver’s license test. Driver’s permit is not required toattend this course. Most insurance companies will providea discount for course completion. Students must attendeight out of 10 classes to complete program and receivecertificate for their insurance company.

CREATE YOUR OWN 3D VIDEO GAMES CAMPOffered in partnership with Computer Explorers, this campwill inspire creativity and imagination. The choice of actions is almost limitless. 3Dadds that special extra to every part of their video games.Will they include aliens, helicopters, wild animals or fanta-sy characters? The children will feel a sense of power astheir characters do what they want them to do. The campwill be conducted at the Gauntlett Community Center.

BABYSITTER TRAININGThis course offered in conjunction with the American RedCross will teach teenagers (ages 11-16) the responsibili-ties and qualities needed to be a good babysitter and whatto expect from the person who hires you. Participants willbe taught how to best respond to an emergency situation,how to prevent accidents before they occur, how to playwith and supervise children of different ages, how toselect safe toys and games, how to diaper and dressinfants, and much more. Each student completing the pro-gram will receive a babysitter handbook and certificate.Training will be conducted at the Gauntlett CommunityCenter. Please bring a brown bag lunch to class.

Thisexciting class will explore numerous aspects of voice overwork for television, film, radio, audio books, documen-taries and the internet in our area. We will cover all thebasics including how to prepare the all important demo,how to be successful and earn great income in this excit-ing field. Students will have the opportunity to ask ques-tions and to hear examples of demos recorded by profes-sional voice actors. Class participants will even have achance to record a commercial script under the directionof our voicecoaches.com producer! This class is informa-tive, lots of fun, and a great first step for anyone interest-ed in voice acting professionally. The class will meet at theCommunity Center and is open to anyone 18 years of ageand above. Space is limited and registration closes oneweek prior to class, so register early. AWESOME ROBOTICS CAMPParticipants (ages 9-12) will extend their knowledge ofRobotics as they build and program unique projects.Whether it’s a car, a Ferris wheel or a crane, this camp willbe fun, challenging and AWESOME! At least one of therobots takes more than 100 steps to build. The final proj-ect will be the children’s unique Robot based on every-thing they have learned throughout the week and on theirimagination! PAXON PREPWith Mr. MacNealThis program will prepare your child (students entering6th grade) for the Middle School experience. A guided tourof Paxon Hollow will begin the program. All students willhave daily interaction with a combination lock and beassigned a locker to store all belongings. The program willalso provide an explanation of the daily schedule and aglimpse into the curriculums in all major subject areas forthe first month. Strategies for early success such as studyskills, binder organization and time management will beintroduced. Paxon Hollow Middle School Teacher PeteMacNeal will coordinate the program. JUNIOR GOLF CLINICThis program teaches children ages 7 to 16 the basic fun-damentals and etiquette of golf. Children will learn properstance and swing techniques, how to grip a club, addressthe ball and have FUN. Other aspects of the game to becovered include chipping and putting. Furthermore, partic-ipants will learn the basic rules of golf as well as theimportance of sportsmanship. No prior experience is nec-essary. Equipment will be provided if needed. Groups meetfor five one-hour clinics. The first four clinics meet on con-secutive Saturday mornings, while the fifth clinic is doneon a weekday evening on the golf course (date TBA byinstructor). Instruction will take place at Paxon HollowCountry Club’s practice facilities in Broomall. The programcoordinator is Dan Malley, PGA Professional.

ADULT FEMALE GOLF CLINICThis program includes four one-hour clinics and is open tobeginner and intermediate female players. Participantswill be taught the basic fundamentals of the game (pos-ture, grip and aim) and how to swing the club. In addition,all players will work on their short game including bothchipping and putting. Clinics one through three will beheld on the practice range or putting green at PaxonHollow C.C., and the fourth clinic will be done on the golfcourse. While on the course, golf etiquette and speed ofplay will be discussed. The program coordinator is DanMalley, PGA Professional. If needed, equipment will beprovided.

ADULT BASKETBALL LEAGUEMarple Newtown Recreation’s Adult Basketball League isscheduled to begin Monday, September 12, 2016. Leaguegames will be played Monday through Thursday from7:00pm to 10:00pm at the Robert C. Gauntlett CommunityCenter Gym. Teams wishing more information on thisleague should contact the recreation office at 610-353-2326.

YOGAWith “Ha” meaning Sun and “Tha” meaning Moon, Hathayoga is a style of yoga that is physical and at the sametime deeply meditative. Through a variety of yoga pos-tures, attention to proper alignment is learned. Gentlemovement in union with breathing strengthens the bodyand increases flexibility, while freeing the mind from dailystress. A sense of harmony and balance is discovered.Other benefits include increased energy flow as nervechannels are cleared, improved concentration, blood cir-culation and digestion! Classes will meet in the GauntlettCommunity Center. Students should wear comfortableclothing and bring a yoga mat to class. This six-week yogaprogram will be taught by Yvette Pecoraro, a certifiedTriYoga instructor and RYT with Yoga Alliance.

WALK LIVEWalk Live is the live version of Leslie Sansone’s indoor aer-obic walking program which has been helping people getfit for over 25 years. ULTIMATE SUMMER CAMPLeave your electronic devices at home!!!! Your child (enter-ing grades 5 to 8 welcome) will begin each day with somelight stretching and exercising. Next, we will move indoors for some math and read-ing activities. Your child will then eat a delicious lunch pre-pared at home. The afternoon fun begins with a climb onthe cargo net and rock wall!!! This camp,for children ages 10 to 14, introduces the world of wilder-ness survival using ancient skills and modern tools.Campers are challenged to build natural shelters, areintroduced to outdoor navigation and signaling, learn howto pack for adventures with their families, and practice thesecrets of invisibility and stealth. Each day will includehands-on activities, discussion and a team activity. TIGER WRESTLING CAMPThis technique camp is designed for all wrestlers ages 7to 16, regardless of experience. There will be differentiat-ed instruction that has a high percentage of success on alllevels of wrestling. Top-notch technicians will tailor theinstruction to the appropriate level of the wrestler. Thecamp Coordinator is Don Tabar, a former NCAA-II WrestlingCoach of the Year. Camp Technicians include PatrickCallaghan, MNHS all-time takedown leader. Monday willfocus on technique from the feet (neutral position). It willinclude stance, motion, level changes, penetration, setups,and attacking an opponent. Tuesday will continue tech-nique on the feet, but will add more attacks and countersto an opponent’s attack. Wednesday will focus on the bot-tom defensive position. Stand-ups, sit-outs, switches, rolls,and variations of each will be presented. The top or offen-sive position will be focal point on Thursday. Breaking downthe opponent, countering an opponent’s moves, and turningthe opponent for the ultimate pin will be shown. Each childshould wear wrestling shoes. STEM ROLLER COASTER CAMPBy Learn to Connect, LLCCampers (entering grades 6, 7 & 8) will ride the best rollercoasters at Dorney and Hershey Parks while learning thescience behind these exciting thrill rides. The group willmeet at the Gauntlett Community Center for three hours(9am-12pm) of classroom roller coaster investigations andfun on Monday,Wednesday and Friday. They will then trav-el to Dorney Park on Tuesday and Hershey Park onThursday for full days (8am-5pm) of roller coaster adven-ture. Classroom investigations will include exploring rollercoaster concepts (speed & energy) and building modelroller coasters, while amusement park days will allow kidsto measure and explore what they have learned. Camp feeincludes tickets to both Dorney and Hershey Parks, trans-portation, camp T-shirt (include size when registering), andall activity materials. REGISTRATION FORMS – Must becomplete and on file in the recreationoffice prior to program participation.

CONFIDENTIALITY – Informationregarding minor children is consideredconfidential and will only be sharedwith the parents or legal guardianslisted on the registration form. Familydata (address, phone number & emailaddress) will be shared with instruc-tors and coaches.

CANCELLATIONS – Marple NewtownRecreation reserves the right to cancela class or an entire activity for whichthere is insufficient registration or forany other reasonable cause.

TRIPS – Most trips depart from theRobert C. Gauntlett Community Center.There are NO refunds for “no shows”!

NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING – In case ofan emergency, please include on yourregistration form the name and phonenumber of an English speakingperson.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITY – Parentsare not to bring children to an activitysite prior to the activities scheduledstart time. In addition, parents areresponsible for picking up childrenpromptly at the conclusion of eachactivity.

INCLEMENT WEATHER – Recreationprograms and activities will generallybe cancelled if schools are closed ordismiss early due to the weather.Please call 610-353-2326 for programcancellation information. INSURANCE – The Marple NewtownJoint Recreation Commission carriesliability and property damage insur-ance only. Program participants areexpected to use personal family healthplans for medical coverage.

PRICES – Most activity prices are list-ed. Payment must be received inadvance for each program desired.

NON-RESIDENT PRICES – Most pro-grams are open to non-residents atstated price, plus $10.

MULTIPLE CHILDREN FAMILIES –When registering three or more chil-dren from the same family for thesame program, check with the recre-ation office for discount prices. Clinicsand contracted activities are notincluded.

REFUNDS – Are subject to a $10administrative charge and approvedonly if the request is received threebusiness days before the first class. Inreference to trips and one-day work-shops, refunds are only given if areplacement can be found.

RETURNED CHECK FEES – Allreturned checks are subject to a $25processing fee.

CREDIT CARDS (VISA & MASTER-CARD) – Are accepted EXCEPT for ski,movie and amusement park tickets.These transactions are cash only.
