WEDNESDAY 9 OCTOBER 2019 241 CLEAN CATTLE & YOUNG BULLS Auctioneer : Bernie Hutchinson (07778 164274) Numbers holding remarkably well considering the gloom and doom with the beef sector market. All cattle changing hands on a trade which would be very much two tiered with good well fleshed cattle a bit easier sold on the day combined with light, plain, very heavy, fat or overage still hard to place. A full ring of buyers but certainly more particularly as to what they owned its just a good job it’s a green market and a few light, younger and plainer types going onto further finishers. Leading lights glowed to 246p for heifers, 234p for steers and 216p for bulls. 93 Bulls - A bit more buoyancy in the trade for the better fleshed continental bulls but light, plain and Drayton specials sold on a lack lustre trade. Sucklers peaked at 216p (£1,196.64) for Limousin from Mr Martin Edwards, Morton and further bulls to 204p (£1,081.20) and 196p (£991.76). Mr John Bennett & Family, Stoke Farm sold Blue to 208p (£1,144.00), distant travellers The Pennie Family, Llandyssil sold Limousins to 212p (£1,276.24) and 200p (£1,376.00). The Barker Family, Ditton Prior Blue to 206p (£1,256.60) and 190p (£991.80). In the lump a Limousin realised £1,480.00 from The Roberts Family, Mid-Wales to mention to few. Native types saw Shorthorns to 202p (£917.08). Drayton specials black and whites to 180p (£1,108.80) from The Gregory Family, Kynnersley but the norm on the day would have to be very meaty to break 150p mark. The section average returned at 158p (£909.52). 67 Steers - Well it seems to be the norm to have an entry of every imaginable combination of steers forward! Super star quality peaked at 234p (£1,272.96) for a Blue from Mr Steve Friswell & Family, Brinklow and further cattle to 229p (£1,232.08) and 220p (£1,223.20). The Welsh Contingent celebrating their rugby win saw Jones Bros, Newtown selling Limousins to 232p (£1,213.36) and 228p (£1,215.24), Mr Shaun Daly, Church Lawford sold Limousin to 216p (£1,313.28) and Mr Chris Longton, Hatton Charolais to 220p (£1,166.00) to mention a few. Native breeds saw Angus to 199p (£1,006.94) from Mr Brian Maddox & Family, Woodseaves. The section average returned at 170p (£1,000.91). 81 Heifers - Again an extremely mixed entry with the good, bad and ugly all well represented. Sucklers raced away to 246p (£1,239.84) for a Blue from Mr Chris Longton, Hatton and further cattle to 244p (£1,151.68), 226p (£1,193.28), 220p (£1,139.60) and 216p (£989.28). Mr Steve Friswell, Brinklow Limousin to 245p (£1,269.10) and Jones Bros, Newtown Blue Crosses to 241p (£1,250.79) and 238p (£1,211.42) and Mr S. Johnson, Tarporley Limousin to 226p (£1,134.52) etc. Native types saw Roy Jefferies, Knutsford Angus to 184p (£1,146.32) to mention a few. The section average returned at 160p (£901.26).

202 STORE CATTLE Auctioneer : Ben Baggott (07791 791356) Just a fair entry again this week and very much some-thing for everyone! From the very best suckler bred steers to some young Friesian steers. Trade finding itself with the only highlights coming from the suckler bred cattle today. Only a handful of Friesian steers on offer today trading mainly 100p to 120p/kg topping at 121p from H.K.& S.B. Bennett, Woodseaves or £520. No breeding cattle forward today which is very surprising after the past few weeks - we do have customers looking for outfits. Just a little more life about the yarding cattle today maybe mainly due to the overall quality on offer. Best cattle £900 to £1,100 topping at £1,140 for Simmental steers from D. & A. Warrington, Fole. Plenty of good cattle over £1,000 today with better types trading mainly 160p to 175p/kg with some lovely Blue steers getting over 200p today from J. & C. Mayer, Wheaton Aston. More dairy bred types getting away to 140p to 160p/kg today. Farming cattle very much a two tiered trade again with some strong types selling well but some native heifer lacking shape struggling around 100p/kg. Better sorts at £600 to £700. Mediums types £500 to £600 and those lacking confirmation or small for age could be £380 to £480 - all said most things finding new homes. All store enquiries to Ben
