WEDNESDAY 15 APRIL 2020 228 CLEAN CATTLE & YOUNG BULLS Auctioneer : Bernie Hutchinson (07778 164274) Firstly a huge thank you to all our vendors, buyers and team of staff for adhering to and working within our strict bio-security measures. I appreciate the circumstances are not ideal and Market Drayton is all about the atmosphere but with the grave threat hanging over us we all have to adapt and work to government guidelines to beat this devastating virus. Another cracking number forward selling on a slightly easier trade but when you contrast this with deadweight which seems to be in free fall with numerous processors taking ten pence a week off the price, I would say a very pleasing performance on the day! Please remember we are in very changing times and demand is changing hourly if not daily and the whole red meat industry needs to realign itself in the coming weeks and months. Best butchers cattle still very easy to sell resulting in the following headline prices :- heifers to 276p, steers to 237p and bulls to 212p 86 Bulls - Not quite the vigour of last weeks trade with reports from the cliff face sighting trade seems to have burnt itself out! On the day sucklers to 212p (£1,060.00) for Limousins from Mr Frank Heath & Family, Pipe Gate and further Limousins to 203p (£1,067.78) and 192p (£1,048.32). Mr A.J. Heath T/A. Avonfinch sold Simmentals to 194p x 2 (£1,319.20 and £1,315.32). Native types sold to 183p twice for Angus from The Jones Family, Minsterley and returned £1,076.04 and £1,039.44. Drayton specials saw black and whites to 175p (£959.00) from G.C. & J.A. Bennett, Woodseaves. The section average returned at 170p (£1,001.28). 66 Steers - A little bit like “dolly mixtures” with the good, bad and ugly all well represented. Super star to 237p (£1,554.72) from distance travellers The Jones Family, Ruthin and further Limousins to realise £1,509.20 and £1,404.56. Closer to home Mr Ian Brown, Werrington sold Blues to 230p (£1,416.80) and Mr George Proctor, Wood Lane Blue to 227p (£1,253.04), 220p (£1,276.00) and 210p (£1,100.00). Native types to 188p (£879.84) for Shorthorns from Mr Simon Beamond, Caersws. The section average returned at 180p (£1,129.20). 76 Heifers - A bit of a mixed bag but as always some-thing for everyone and everyone for something. Top calls rang out to 276p (£1,402.08) for a Blue from Mr Chris Long-ton & Family, Warrington and further cattle to 244p twice (£1,268.80 and £1,205.36) and Charolais to 234p (£1,160.64), 232p (£1,262.08) and 220p (£1,293.60). Ed & Diane Nelson, Warmingham sold Limousin to 258p (£1,259.04) and 216p (£1,218.24). Mr Ian Brown, Werring-ton Blue to 246p (£1,274.28) and Mr George Proctor, Bignall End Limousins to 218p (£1,286.20). Natives sold to 206p (£1,025.88) fro Angus from S. & D.W. Eden, Leigh. The section average returned at 188p (£1,033.72).

Hoping to reporting to you next week!! Stay Safe & Healthy.
