WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM FR. LARRY

Dear Friends, In today’s Gospel, Jesus notices a poor widow’s offering and commends her great sacrifice. Today’s Gospel leads us to think about our family’s financial contributions to our parish community, the diocese, other Church-sponsored organizations, and charitable organizations. Good stewardship invites us to share our treasure as well as our time and talent. Sometimes, however, decisions about a family’s charitable giving are made without our children’s knowledge. Yet we teach more when we invite all family members to be aware of how we contribute to our Church and to other charitable organizations. If children don’t learn to contribute to the Church at home, where will they learn this important sacrifice? Unfortunately, some members of the parish spend more each week at Starbucks than the amount they give in their weekly offering. As you gather as a family, talk about your family’s financial contributions to your parish and to other Church activities. If your family supports other charitable organizations, you might talk about these as well. Talk together about why it is important for us to share our resources with these organizations. Talk also about ways in which your family might also make a sacrificial gift to support your parish or another charitable organization. Perhaps your family might choose not to go out to dinner but to contribute the money to your parish one weekend. Invite all family members to participate in the decision about what action you will take and which organization you will support with your contribution. Ask God to help your family be generous like the poor widow in today’s Gospel. Have a nice week. Yours in Christ, Fr. El Evangelio nos lleva a pensar en las contribuciones financieras de nuestra familia a nuestra comunidad parroquial, donaciones para la diócesis, u otras organizaciones patrocinadas por la Iglesia y organizaciones caritativas. El buen compromiso nos invita a compartir de nuestro tesoro, así como nuestro tiempo y talento. REMEMBERING ALL SOULS – ENROLL YOUR LOVED ONES TODAY! There is still time to the names of our beloved deceased to the Book of the Dead. We will be adding names on an ongoing basis through the month of November. Please use the envelopes found on the Registration Table to enroll all the names of your loved ones who are now resting in Eternal Life. You may insert a list if you prefer, because sometimes it is hard to write the names on the space provided on the envelopes. We can only type what we can read, so please print clearly! We will create a “Book of the Dead” and your loved ones will be listed in this book. All

will be remembered during the entire month of November at every Mass. Your donations are appreciated; thank you!

“JESSE TREE” 2021 We know that 2021 has continued to be a tough year for so many families. We also know that there are many families who help support this event each year but are just starting to recover financially. For this reason, we are doing a “Jesse Tree” program this year but it will be in a modified format as it was last year.

FAMILIES REQUESTING GIFTS Please see the attached request form to register. This form must be filled out completely or it will be rejected. • All registration will be done via email to parish@stmariana.org or in writing (dropped off in Parish Mailbox).

• To be eligible, your family must (1) live in Pico Rivera within the St. Mariana de Paredes boundaries: Washington Blvd on the north, Telegraph Road on the south, 605 Freeway on the east and Paramount Blvd on the west; or (2) be a registered member of St. Mariana de Paredes.

• Each family must provide proof of residence (copy of utility bill in the parent’s name or ID) or provide their envelope number as proof of registration in the Parish. • Each family can request two (2) gifts per child under the age of 18 – one toy and one clothing item.

ALL REQUESTS ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 21ST FAMILIES WISHING TO HELP

• Starting on November 29th, you may email Marie Martinez at mmartinez@stmariana.org to request “gift tags” with the information you need for the gifts you would like to buy

• If you would like to help out in a general way, we will be accepting gift cards to Target, Walmart, McDonald’s or our local grocery stores. Please purchase these in small amounts, for example, $10-$20 per gift card
