GROUNDHOG DAY
The month of February carries a important day: known as Ground-
hog Day. Groundhog day is celebrated February 2. It is broadcast-
ed in Pennsylvania. There will be a groundhog named Punxtawney
Phil, who will predict the upcoming weather based on whether or
not his shadow appears or not. He will be put in a burrow around
7:35 am. Then, the forecasters will look out for his shadow and
weather conditions. As Phil emerges from the burrow, if his shad-
ow is seen, the U.S will have 6 more weeks of winter. If his shadow
isn't seen, the U.S will be expecting
warmer temperatures and an early spring.
Mardi Gras
On February 28,2017 Mardi Gras, will be taking place again, as a traditional
event filled with fun events that have taken place for many years. Mardi Gras
always lands on the Tuesday that is 47 days before Easter. It is always the day
before Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent. Carnival season refers to the
weeks leading up to Mardi Gras, and officially begins on January 6 every year.
Although Carnival season lasts more than a month, the parties, parades and fun
kick into high gear on the Thursday before Mardi Gras.
Black History Month, or National African American History
Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Ameri-
cans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Ameri-
cans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History
Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and
other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. presi-
dent has officially designated the month of February as Black
History Month. Other countries around the world, including
Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to cele-
brating black history. It is a time of celebration for the African
American culture. Many historical African Americans that have
shaped modern society are the following: MLK, Rosa Parks,
W.E.B Du Bois, Malcom X, etc.

Valentine’s
Day In a world that can go crazy
Where values often go
astray
its easy to forget what counts
As we struggle each day
But sometimes on the road
of life
You get to meet someone
who cares
Who remembers what does
matter most
The love and laughter that
they share
They know nothings more
important
Then the love that’s left be-
hind
Making someone feel they’re
cherished
Building loving ties that
bind
All their special loved ones
Beside deep within their
heart
Yet they share the pieces
So everyone can have a part
You are that special some-
one who only comes once in
a while
I feel bless to know you be-
cause you make me smile
