  • Beginning Google Drive and Docs Facilitators: Lauren Villaluz/Beth Grillo Room 223 Description: Are your colleagues using baffling phrases like, "Save it on your Drive and share it with me" or "Yeah, it's a really cool extension that you can add on to Sheets"? If you would like to learn how to translate these and other statements and learn that basics of Google Drive and Docs, you should attend this session. Who should attend: Beginners to the Google suite of applications that Ferndale teachers are using more and more everyday. Intermediate Google Drive and Docs Facilitators: Scott Jeffrey/Mike Phou FHS InfoStation Description: Scott and Mike will teach you all about Flubaroo, Snag-it, and other Google Apps and Extensions. Who should attend: Folks who are secure with the basics of the Google suite of applications and want to learn about some more nuanced and complicated uses. Effective Readers/Writers Workshop Facilitators: Brooke Brimacombe/Emily Wize Room 202 Description: Brooke and Emily will share ideas for running an effective workshop class that utilizes that mini-lesson, active engagement, independent practice, and sharing aspects of workshop. Who should attend: ELA teachers primarily, but any teacher who wishes to create a more engaging atmosphere in his or her classroom and eliminate the "sage on the stage" model. Standards-Based Grading Facilitators: Johanna Mracna/Liz Gillespie Room 205 Description: Johanna and Liz will introduce the wondrous world of Standards-Based Grading and make the case for why it is a more authentic way to judge your students' classroom achievement. Who should attend: Teachers who are NOT attending the after-school Standards-Based Grading PD series but are still interested in learning more about it. Interactive WhiteBoard Techniques (Session 1 Only) Facilitator: Scott Collins FMS InfoStation Description: Scott will demystify some of the every-day instructional uses of that fancy, very expensive interactive whiteboard that you may have in your classroom. Who should attend: Teachers who have an interactive whiteboard but feel like they're not using it to its full potential. Google Classrooms (Session 2 Only) Facilitator: Scott Collins FMS InfoStation Description: Scott will help you get your Google Classroom set up for immediate use as soon as our students have their ferndaleschools.org email addresses! (We predict this will happen this summer). Who should attend: Anyone who has heard of Google Classrooms and is interested in using it, but has not set one up yet. If you attended session 2 of the Technology PD series should NOT attend because this session will be very similar. Visible Thinking Facilitators: Katie Jeffrey/Derek Adams Room 208 Description: Visible Thinking focuses on "making student thinking visible" - a research-based approach to using thinking routines and questioning methods in the classroom to better understand and "see" student thought processes around what they are learning. Who should attend: Anyone who is interested in this topic and who has NOT attended the 2-part PD series. Co-Teaching (Session 1 Only) Facilitators: A Ceglarak/M Hand/J Smith Room 212 Description: This session is designed for both general ed and special ed teachers who will be co-teaching or who would like to co-teach. Participants will learn about the philosophy behind effective co-teaching, strategies for equality between teachers, and best practices for enhancing student achievement in a mainstreamed classroom. Who should attend: Any general ed or special ed teacher who is NOT attending the Co-Teaching PD series. TeachScape Facilitator: Tom Shelton Media Center Description: Tom will review the basics of how to use TeachScape for your evaluations, including how to log in and upload documents. An overview of the final stages of the process will be provided, and time will be built in for questions. Who should attend: Anyone who is being evaluated using TeachScape.
