Grace Notes “Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake us from our lethargy.” Pope Francis

Pope Francis declares Lent as a reawakening. Perhaps we need a Lent that rekindles us, a Lent that shakes off the winter doldrums and puts our relationship with God front and center. The First Reading on Ash Wednesday from the second chapter of Joel proclaims, “Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God. For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment.” Let our Lent this year be about action – action that not only finds a way to lovingly support those around us, but action that brings us in greater union with Christ. Sit in prayerful solitude and contemplation. Intentionally seek out those “blind spots” from which we construct walls and offend others. When our journey ends, may we all know the contentment and peace that radiates from deeply knowing the immense love of God. A reawakening. By Steve Petrunak, President/CEO NPM

To all who submitted your favorite hymns, thank you! Over the course of the next few weeks we’ll print the compiled list so that all can see that, what may not necessarily be your favorite, may well be someone else’s favorite. As I’m planning the hymns, I’ll be referring to this list as well as the list of hymns that the parish knows. I cannot promise that every favorite will be included, but I’ll do my best. When planning the hymns, there are certain criteria to follow, i.e. the liturgical season (we don’t sing hymns with Alleluia’s during Lent), the liturgical action (entrance, Communion, recessional), a solemnity (for Marian feasts we sing Marian hymns), and so on. Just remember: keep singing! ~Regina Reale Be Joyful, Mary*Be Not Afraid*Be Still, My Soul*Be Thou My Vision*Beautiful Savior*Blessed Feasts of Blessed Martyrs*Blest Are They*Bread of Life*Bread, Blessed and Broken*Canticle of the Sun*Celtic Alleluia: Sending Forth*Christ Before Us*Christ, Be Our Light*Christ, The Lord, Is Risen Again*Christ, the Lord, Is Risen Today*City of God*Come to Me*Come To the Water*Come, Christians, Join to Sing*Come, Holy Ghost*Come, O Holy Spirit*Come, Ye Thankful People, Come*Creator of the Stars of Night*Crown Him With Many Crowns*Dona Nobis Pacem*Dwelling Place*Eat This Bread*Eternal Father, Strong to Save*Eye Has Not Seen*Faith of Our Fathers*For All the Saints*For the Beauty of the Earth*Forty Days and Forty Nights*From the Depths We Cry to Thee*Gather the People*Gather Us In*Gather Your People*Gift of Finest Wheat*Glory and Praise To Our God*Go, Tell It On the Mountain*God of Day and God of Darkness*God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen*Good Christian Friends, Rejoice*Hail Mary: Gentle Woman*Hail the Day That Sees Him Rise*Hail, Holy Queen*Hail, Redeemer, King Divine*Here At This Table*Here I Am, Lord*Holy God, We Praise Thy Name*Holy, Holy, Holy*Hosea*How Can I Keep From Singing*How Great Thou Art*Humbly, Lord, We Worship You*I Am the Bread of Life* I Have Loved You*I Heard the Voice of Jesus*I Know That My Redeemer Lives*I Received the Living God*I Sing the Mighty Power of God*Immaculate Mary*In Paradisum*In These Days of Lenten Journey*Infant Holy, Infant Lowly*Isaiah 49* Jesu, Jesu*Jesu, Joy of Our Desiring*Jesus Christ Is Risen Today*Jesus Is Risen*Jesus, Remember Me*Joy To the World*Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee!

GOSPEL MEDITATION March 1st, 2020

1st Sunday of Lent Life can easily spin us out of control. While there are so many wonderful opportunities before us, we can also get easily distracted and exhausted. There is always something to do, respond to, or check. The clutter of our lives can take us off course, and the best remedy for getting back on track is the experience of the desert. Here we can face our demons square on, resist them, and get back on course. We desperately need the season of Lent. This simple time of year forces us into greater awareness and grounds us in what is good and true. What weighs you down and keeps you trapped? Maybe you are trying to do too much and please too many people. It could be that your fragile self-image is always pushing you to prove yourself and find success. Anxiety and worry, ultimately due to a lack of faith, can quickly tempt you with despair. It could be that you are listening to too many voices and allowing all of the negativity that is present erode the genuine goodness in your heart and in all of God’s creation. Or maybe you struggle too much with fear. Perhaps so much so that you are far too preoccupied with your own agenda and goals and left with little psychological or spiritual room to consider and respond to the plight of your neighbor. Do anger, bitterness, stubbornness, and hatred have homes in your heart? How about greed, gluttony, pride, apathy, or lust? For many, their passions and what can be found on the internet are their downfall, and they are robbed of their inner life and freedom. What is it, specifically, that tempts you away from a childlike trust in God? Define this and use the next few weeks to allow God to chart you a course away from them. Silence, being alone, grace, honesty, struggle, tears, and dryness are all found in the desert. You will also find God and your true self in

this holy place. Ready to go? ~©LPi

LIMITED CHURCH HOURS! Effective Immediately

Due to safety concerns the church will be open limited hours, they are:

7:30 am to 9:30 am on Mondays & Fridays, 7:30 am to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays,

2 pm to 5:30 pm on Saturdays, 8 am to 10:30 am on Sundays

Second Sundays, open until noon, to accommodate tours!

On weekdays, only the handicap doors will be open during the hours listed above. Exceptions are weddings, funerals or other large events.

Greeters are needed on Wednesdays. We encourage those who are currently scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays to switch to a Wednesday slot so we can have at least two people on site at all times during Adoration. Another option could be an Adoration time slot instead. Please let the parish office know.

If you are responsible to open & close for an event, please lock all doors 15 minutes after your event begins. If a person needs to go out to their vehicle during an event, a second person should stay at the door to let them back in.

Your safety is very important to us! Thank you for your understanding & cooperation!
