Also of note is my most recent position as Principal Pianist for the Simn Bolvar Big Band Jazz in Venezuela from 2009 to 2011. ROBERT VILERA THREE JAZZ PROYECT APRIL 2013Robert Vilera was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where he was surrounded by Afro-Venezuelan and Afro-Cuban rhythm. His father, a respected percussionist in his native country, tutored and encouraged Vilera on timbales through his adolescent years. Robert Vilera studied at the respected Orquesta Sinfonica de Venezuela (The Symphonic Orchestra of Venezuela), and his percussion technique soon garnered attention from his colleagues. He joined the popular music ensembles Oscar DLeon, where he enjoyed widespread worldwide exposure. Besides being known for his skillful timbale work, Robert also plays congas, bongos, drum set, djembe, cajon and a wide variety of assorted percussion instruments. His technique on all of these instruments is masterful and unparalleled. Playing and co-producing with various artists. Robert has had 15 nominations at the Grammys and he has won more than 7 Grammys.
