Sponsorship Support

Sponsorship support helps offset

the cost of producing ATWs and allows

SPE to keep the attendance price

within reach of operations-level

individuals, those who benefit most

from these technical workshops.

Sponsors benefit both directly and

indirectly by having their names

associated with a specific ATW.

While SPE prohibits any type of

commercialism within the conference

hall itself, the society recognizes that

sponsoring companies offer valuable

information to attendees outside the

technical sessions.

Sponsorship Categories

Sponsorships are offered on a first

come basis. Please contact SPE to

verify the availability of a particular

sponsorship. Existing sponsors have

the opportunity to renew the same

level of sponsorship for annual ATWs.

Sponsorship Benefits

In addition to onsite recognition;

SPE will recognize sponsors on the SPE

website and in all printed material for

the ATW. Based on the sponsorship

selected, sponsoring companies also

receive logo visibility on promotional

ATW items; a half-page, full-color ad in

the ATW Technical Program; and up to

2 delegate passes to the ATW.

Preliminary Program – NOTE: While every attempt will be made to adhere to the

schedule, the status/availability of speakers and moderators is subject to change.

0700–0800 Registration and Continental Breakfast

0800–1000 Session 1: RESERVOIR MANAGEMENT – HIGH WOR/HIGH GROSS PRODUCTION (GP) OILFIELDSSession Chairmen: Bob Sydansk, Sydansk Consulting Services, LLC

Sebastian Kaminszczik, CAPSA-CAPEX

Reservoir Management in high WOR oil fields is an extremely challenging task. Given the purpose of efficient redevelopment of mature oil fields, this session will focus on polymers and other techniques for water production control, including polymers technology selection, process interactions, and project implementation.

New technologies logging tools and permanent devices for downhole measurement/prediction of water production

1000–1030 Coffee Break

1030–1230 Session 2: RESERVOIR SURVEILLANCE – HIGH WOR/HIGH GROSS PRODUCTION (GP) OILFIELDSSession Chairmen: Valentina Bondar, Chevron

Bobby Poe, Schlumberger

This session focuses on reservoir surveillance activities – production logging, continuous/permanent measurement, well/reservoir performance analysis and reservoir modeling.

1230–1330 Lunch

1330–1530 Session 3: WATERFLOOD MANAGEMENT – HIGH WOR/HIGH GROSS PRODUCTION (GP) OILFIELDSSession Chairmen: Dario Baldassa, Pan American Energy

Enrique Muruaga, Tecpetrol

In this session we address waterflood management strategies – in particular, injection strategies, injection and production well design/maintenance, infill development scenarios, efficiency and cost control for artificial lift processes and equipment, and facilities design for high WOR/high gross production (GP) oilfields. New approaches in measurement and separation.

1530–1600 Coffee Break

1600–1800 Session 4: DRILLING, COMPLETION, AND PRODUCTION ISSUESSession Chairmen: Jorge Milathianakis, Repsol-YPF

Valentina Bondar, Chevron

Perhaps the most important (cost-related) issues for a high WOR/high gross production (GP) reservoir are the drilling, completion, and production engineering issues as these represent ever-present operations costs. The issues to be considered are control of sand, scale, and corrosion; design of appropriate artificial lift; and production engineering/operations practices for high WOR/high gross production (GP) conditions

Wednesday, 15 November 2006

0700–0800 Continental Breakfast

0800–1000 Session 5: SURFACE FACILITIES AND AUTOMATIONSession Chairmen: José Casas, Petrobras Energia S. A.

Jorge Milathianakis, Repsol-YPF

This session addresses measurement issues – practices, equipment, existing/emerging technologies, etc. The discussion topics for this session are: facilities design for high WOR/high gross production GP oilfields, scale and corrosion monitoring, and “smart” wells/facilities.

1030–1230 Session 6: ECONOMICS – EFFICIENCY AND COST CONTROLSession Chairmen: George Petrosky, ConocoPhillips

José Casas, Petrobras Energia S. A.

The issues to be addressed in this session include: evaluation of lifting costs, artificial lift processes and equipment, impact of oil price impact on operations, and economic evaluation/risk assessment. The goal is to present scenarios/practices for optimizing costs and ensuring operational efficiency.

1230–1330 Lunch

1330–1530 Session 7: PRODUCED WATER MANAGEMENT – I (OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS)Session Chairmen: Bobby Poe, Schlumberger

Dario Baldassa, Pan American Energy

This session addresses the operational aspects of produced water management. Issues included in this session include water handling, surface treatment and filtration, and disposal or re-injection of produced water. Facilities and production/injection systems analyses and design are required to insure that optimum performance and reliability is achieved without unnecessarily restricting hydrocarbon production.

1530–1600 Coffee Break

1600–1800 Session 8: PRODUCED WATER MANAGEMENT – II (MITIGATION/CONTROL)Session Chairmen: Bob Sydansk, Sydansk Consulting Services, LLC

Sebastian Kaminszczik, CAPSA-CAPEX

There is a spectrum of causes of excessive water production as well as a spectrum of technologies available to mitigate excessive water production. The challenge is to find the proper match between a given reservoir excessive-water-production problem and an applicable and effective water-shutoff technology. No single water-shutoff technology is applicable to all excessive water-production problems. This session will focus on water-shutoff technologies that can be applied successfully to highly layered and “matrix-rock” reservoirs of the type that are often found in South America and that are producing at high WOR.

Thursday, 16 November 2006

0700–0800 Continental Breakfast

0800–1000 Session 9: BEST PRACTICES – HIGH WOR/HIGH GROSS PRODUCTION (GP) OILFIELDSSession Chairmen: Tom Blasingame, Texas A&M University

Marcelo Hirschfeldt, Pan American ENERGY

This session begins the closure of the workshop with a focus on best practices – as conveyed through case history and/or special interest presentations. Cases illustrating operations practices and planning (strategic and field development planning) will be used. Management and operation of high WOR/high gross production (GP) oilfields are considered in this session.

1000–1030 Coffee Break

1030–1130 Session 10: WORKSHOP SUMMARYSession Chairmen: Tom Blasingame, Texas A&M University

Marcelo Hirschfeldt, Pan American ENERGY

The attendees will assist the chairmen in creating a workshop summary which will provide a way forward for the topic of high WOR/high gross production (GP) fields. This summary will be used to publicize the event and serve as a state-of-the-art synopsis.

1130–1230 Lunch

Note-taking by individual attendees is encouraged, but should be limited to ensure participation in the open discussion. A CD or URL containing released copies of the workshop presentations will be available to attendees after the workshop. This documentation will not be prepared in the form of formal SPE papers.

COMMERCIALISMIn keeping consistent with ATW objectives and SPE guidelines, excessive commercialism in presentations will not be permitted. Company logo must be limited to the title slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITSThe Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), through SPE Professional Develop-ment, will award Continuing Education Units (CEU) for participation and com-pletion of SPE short courses, distance learning programs, applied technology workshops, and sanctioned learning activities. One CEU equals 10 contact hours of participation in SPE continuing education activities. A permanent record of a participant’s involvement and awarding of CEU will be maintained by SPE. SPE will provide a copy of the participant’s record upon request. www.spe.org.
