Why I chose Constructing Architect ?

Since, I was a little girl, I have always been interested in drawing, painting and different forms of design. From my earliest years I traveled a lot to admire the architecture and construction in other countries, and I read many books on this subject. My dream was to be able to design an interesting building on a worldwide scale. The reason why I always wanted to be an architect is also that my father have a building company so I am sitting in this topic all the time.

During my education in high school I found some pieces of information about two faculties combined (engineering and architecture). I was very excited because of it, and I decided to study at Politechnika Śląska. After 1st semester I got a possibility of taking part in exchange - double diploma program because of my good notes. I decided to study in Denmark due to better prospects for the future and learn new methods of making projects. Now I know that the Constructing Architect program was really good choice. After 3rd semester I am happy and proud that I am studying at VIA University College.

Education:

1997 – 2003 Primary school

2003 – 2006 Secondary school

2006 – 2009 High school

2009 – 2010 Politechnika Śląska (1st and 2nd sem.)

[2010 – 2011 VIA University College (3rd and 4th sem.)]

Summary of qualifications:

Polish: Very good in reading, writing and speaking.

English: Very good in reading and writing, good in speaking.

German: Basic in reading, speaking and writing.

Computer skills: I have been working in various kind of programs and I am

good in Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and

Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007. Moreover, I can work with Auto CAD,

Revit and Google Sketch Up 6.

Personal interests:

I have always loved nature, and not without reason, every summer I

go to the lake, where I can calm down, collect all thoughts and rest in the

open outdoors on a large clearing. I love spending time in the open air, so in

any free time I go for walks, over the ponds, I admire the nature around me

and everything that happens around. I love this time also because then I

spend a lot time with my family or with the friends.

I am a young person so I like to have fun, going to clubs, discos, to the pubs where I can meet new people and have a good time.

I like listening good music and watching movies, especially dramas and action films.

I also like sport. My favourite are volleyball and swimming. Sometimes I like to play the piano that allows me to forget about

problems and for a moment to move into a different world.

Strong and not so strong points:

I am very ambitious person, and if I designate myself a goal, I always strive for it. Nothing is impossible for me. I quickly grab contact with other people and work well in a group. If I have a problem, I always try to find the best solution. I will never surrender, I always fight to the end. I am a peaceful person, who is always able to find a compromise, who always has their own opinion and make out case. I am good in understanding drawings, calculating static, moisture, u-values and more.

My wrong sight is that I am real sleepyhead and sometimes I am late but I can mobilize myself when there is really important thing to do.

Learning aims:

I want to learn how to work in the group, with other people, because it is completely different than working alone. The most important for me is to learn all of the architectural programs to use my skills and to become more creative and could sell my ideas in the future.

Ambitions:

After the study I want to become a great and professional construction architect and my goal is to take a master degree in architectural design. I want to work on my own ideas in the future and open a design office.

SWOT analysis:

STRENGTHS: After this semester I really feel that I learnt a lot

in computer skills, drawing techniques, designing

and working in group.

WEAKNESSES: There are also some programs that I couldn’t use

(MS Project, Building Service), but I will work on

this.

OPPORTUNITIES: Learn English, how to work in group, improve my

skills for presentation, learning more about

building service.

THREATS: 'm afraid that I would not know how to cope with

stress during the exam and forget about important

things to say.

Group: Our group consisted of four people. Besides me were: Camila Stadler from Brazil, Rally Yordanova from Bulgaria and Kristinn Sölvi from Iceland. Our advantage was that we worked together from the beginning. We have created a harmonious group. Each of us worked hard. All the time we great came to an agreement. There was no conflict and at any moment I could rely on help.

Group aims:

My aim for working in group is that I want to experience to work

with totally different people. Everyone from my group was from another

country. Now when the semester is finished I feel that all of our goals have

been met and achieved, as we wanted and we did really a very good project. I

very much hope that next semester will be equally successful.

Conclusion:

I am double diploma student, this was my first semester in English language. First year I was studying in Poland and I was afraid of learning in a different language and in the different country. At the begging it was hard for me to understand some things and remember words connected with architecture and building industry but now I feel better to studying in English and I understand everything right away.

I was not very optimistic this semester when I realized that I missed

my family and been sad but after a while I took care of myself and started to

work. On 4th semester I know this system of learning better and get used to

work in the school and make the best of myself.

What I liked best about the semester and the study in general was to

learn new programs like Revit and Sketchup. I learned a lot about designing,

building industry and production of the wooden and concrete element,

working on the posters and making presentations.

Those are really practical things if you are thinking about selling yours

architectonic ideas in the future.

I am very happy that I decided to go for an exchange. I learned a lot

of new things in Denmark and what is the most important how to work in

group. I improved my English in writing and speaking and now I know that

I will not have a problems to work in this language. And I hope that I will

learn more in the next semester. I will do as much as I can to get a lot of new

knowledge during this months.

I am thankful for being one of the students in Vitus Bering and for the support I had from my friends and family even if they live 1200km from here.

With best regards,

Magdalena Brzoska
