MY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE ON GOOGLE SKETCHUP

PLANNING RESEARCH
I first looked at other Performing Art Centers that had won awards and noted down the good aspects of them in a word document.
Then I researched what was needed in the centers and put that in the document too.
Then I listened to Mr. Gordon and wrote down his main points. I added them to my word document.
I planned the shape of the centre by looking at where it was supposed to go.
I measured the drama classrooms to find out there actual size.
Then I did rough sketches to help design my final project

Performing Arts CentreMusic, Drama, Dance are the main onesWhat facilities does dio have for dance… Wooden floors, mirrors, barsIs dance offered as a curricular subject… no as we have nowhere to teach it.Could this be shared with another area of activity? Designated dance spaceHow big does it need to be? Would it be big enough for an audience or just a classroom?Drama classrooms are good sizes…measure them.Needs auditorium- sight lines…two levels, tiered seating-seating for 1750, sound needs to travel well-should be able to hear without microphone, Shows- sound and light, backstage, storage, green rooms, curtains, trap doors, the pit, orchestra pit, high ceilings, background props, organ, fly tower, machinery, sound proofing, employed stage manager, Foyer- runs long ways from science to chapel, through access to the science block and comms, lifts stirs, lifts, reception, refreshments, Music classrooms- need 2-3 drama classrooms, 1-2 dance studios, 10-15 music classrooms, 2 bigger music rooms, 2 recording rooms- 1 next to auditorium and 1 next to the bigger classroom, storage, separate percussion teaching room, senior teaching room, music technology, keyboard room, Staff room, offices, place for students to go, lockers, staff toilet, bathrooms and showers, storage, closet in choir room

I chose design one as I thought it fitted the shape best and I thought it would be easiest to create.

It folds away so can be kept out of the way if need be.

The entrance is situated next to the chapel and it has a small path with a flower bed next to it =]

THE DANCE STUDIO The dance studio is
situated off the foyer.
It has a full length mirror and bar going the full stretch of the room
The walls are soundproof so keeps all the sound inside
There are lockers on the left side to put the dancers clothing in.
There is another dance studio in the basement with the same things in it
DRAMA CLASSROOMS There are two drama classrooms down the corridor next to the dance studio

THE AUDITORIUM- LEVEL 1-INFO
The auditorium is on level 1. It however has seating also on level 2 looking down.
It seats 1500 people It has stairs coming up from the green rooms
in the basement to the stage. The floor is sound proof so you can not hear
people below It has a grand piano, lighting, a fly tower, an
organ and an orchestra pit All props are stored in the basement and can
be taken up throught the lift.

The auditorium has a glass roof over it. It contains the lighting etc
Since the roof is curved it gives a good sound There is more seating here and there is a
glass barrier around the edge There are stairs leading down to level one
THE OFFICES On level one I also have
offices and a staff room I made offices for Ms
Procter, Mr. Warsnop, Mr. Gordon and Ms White, Mrs. Macintyre-Bull and Mrs Karajov share an office.
The offices are 5mx3m They each have a desk at
the front where permission slips/sign ups can be placed
THE STAFF ROOM
Behind the offices there is a staff room. There is a small kitchen with a fridge, a
microwave etc. There is a dining table and some chairs etc There are also toilets for both male and
female.
ITINERANT CLASSROOMS There are 15 itinerant classrooms. In each room there is a piano, a small
cupboard and a music stand. The Percussion room and the oboe rooms are
bigger as they make more noise.

MUSIC CLASSROOMS These are the classrooms that will b e used
for class teaching. In one of the rooms there is a recoding
studio. In each room they have guitars, music
stands, a cupboard of musical instruments and a drum kit.
KEY BOARDING AND MUSIC TECH ROOM
These rooms are on level two.
The key board room has 12 keyboards and the music tech room has 12 computers
TOILETS ON LEVEL TWO
These are the toilets.
The males toilets are behind the females.
CHOIR ROOM
This is a room for the choir to practice in with out putting away all there stands
In the room there are 30 stands, a stereo and a cupboard to store robes in
It is also soundproof
ORCHESTRA ROOM This is a room for the orchestra to practice in with out putting away all their stands/seats
In the room there are 30 stands, 30 seats and a stereo
It is also soundproof
GREEN ROOM This is the room
for the students to chill out in before shows etc.
It is situated below the stage in the basement.
In the room there is a kitchenette, beanbags, a couch and a TV.
It is also soundproof
PRACTICE ROOMS
There are four practice rooms
These rooms are for class groups that are doing rehearsals
These rooms are soundproof

The toilets are situated right next to the green room for easy access
STORAGE The storage area is a large room This is where all props, costumes or
anything needed for shows is stored. There is a big door for props to fit through
