When Did The Band Meet?

Luce Women met at Stranraer Folk club inAugust 2000 playing their first gig inBladnoch Distillery.

The Luce Women are an acoustic bandwho play a variety of different kinds ofmusic:

Folk Traditional Irish, Scottish and American

Cajun

Blues

And any other kinds that take their fancy.

Inverness (in a venue called InvernessHootenanny)

Teesdale (at Teesdale Thrash)

Cathy Frank

Cathy Frank has been involved inharmony singing from a young age andmore recently with her husband and

children in her family band. She is the woman with the high voice in

her band, Luce women.

Cathy also plays the guitar mandolin andbanjo.

Pat Lewicka

Pat Lewicka taught herself the mandolin.

She plays the very complex mandolinparts.

Pat only started professional musicrecently.

She sings the difficult third harmonies in

Luce Women.

Gerda Pickin

Gerda Pickin had a solo career beforeLuce Women.

She played and sang with No Moki

Review, Gertrude, Cow Ate the Blanket,and Pickin, Blant and Squires all beforeLuce Women.

She is the one with the low voice. Shealso plays the English Concertina and theGuitar.

Luce Women have nicknames for eachother:

Gerda = Venus Flytrap

Cathy = Rambling Rose

Pat = Shrinking Violet

Pat sings all foreign translations.

They have all won several singing awards.

They love chocolate biscuits :)

The Band Name

The band name sounds like the tv showloose women but the name has nothingto do with a tv show...

Luce means released from bonds orrestraint. Detached, without definiteoccupation. Or relaxed.
