the citys history on two consecutive days last fortnight due to a collapse of the Northern grid twice,the Delhi government is mulling plans to become more energy efficient.In the wake of a recent study by Power Ministrys Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which says electricityconsumption can be brought down by 25 per cent with adoption of cool roofs. These roofs can deliverhigh solar reflectance, which is the ability to reflect visible infrared and ultraviolet rays of the sun.This reduces heat transfer to the building. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has directed all buildingconstruction and maintenance agencies to implement such roofs in upcoming private and governmentbuildings.

The Chief Ministers office has asked the agencies to promote reflection of light and heat by going foreither of the two ways a coating with a thick white paint on the roof, or by putting white tiles onroofs.Senior government officials said no new application for building plans which does not have provisionfor implementing cool roofs will be passed.

Completion certificates will be given only after implementing cool roof on buildings. All agencies,including the three Municipal corporations, DDA, PWD and NDMC have been issued directions toimplement the same. These agencies will issue further notifications, a senior official said.New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairperson Archna Arora said: We will put in cool roofs forall new buildings. Depending on the mode adopted for cooling the roof and the roof type, this plan canbe very beneficial for a city like Delhi.Delhi Power Secretary Shakti Sinha said Delhi could also go in for solar panels on all large roofs.Secretary for the Public Works Department, Nutan Guha Biswas said notification to this effect wouldbe issued by the governments Urban Development Department.As an implementing agency, we would do the needful as per the notification, she said.

But a study in USA based on a satellite imaging confirms that whiteroofs are more effective than planting trees. This in no way discourages growing trees. General Properties of UBOND AP

IMPORTANT PROPERTY: As compared to other water based system UBOND AP - Does

not discolour or turn milky soon after drying approx. 4 mins. To 20 mins. Drying Time

Extremely good durability / colour retention / gloss retention. Extremely low VOC.

Good anti-graffiti properties. Resistance to dirt pickup.

UBOND AP does not block the pores and hence does not affect the breathability of concrete. The

Product Description:

Water-repellent NANO ACRYLIC sealer/coat used for protection of building facades or all

types of porous concrete, stone or terracotta surfaces.

Recommended Uses:

As water repellent additive to paints OR sealer/coat applied on exterior building surfaces such

as brickwork, sand lime brickwork, mineral based natural and artificial stone, plaster, cement,concrete, aerated concrete, and mineral paints. It protects building facades from rain,

weathering, dust and dirt pick-up.

Application Instructions:

Method of application Roller, a low-pressure spraying instrument, brush or by sponge.Thinner / Cleaner Do not thin. Clean applying tools with water.

Application temperature 5-30 deg C.

Depends on surface porosity (complete drying occurs when the substrate takes again its

original shape). Drying times can be affected by many factors such as temperature, ventilationand coat thickness. Higher temperatures will shorten the drying times.

Surface Preparation:

Coating performance is, in general, proportional to the degree of surface preparation. Surfacemust be clean, undamaged and free of oil, grease, and other contaminants prior to coating.

Brush off any loose material. Sanding can also be used to remove any dirty surfaces. Water jet

is then used as the end step of substrate cleaning.

Note: Avoid the use of acidic or alkaline chemical detergents and cationic surfactants. If

detergents are used for cleaning, it is necessary to rinse well the cleaned surface by water inorder to remove any detergent residue.

Do not apply UBOND AP under direct sun light or rain. Wait at least 24 hours after rain orwater cleaning.

Be sure that coated surfaces by UBOND AP are not exposed to water and rain for at least 5hours.

Storing Conditions:

- UBOND AP has to be kept in a cool and well-ventilated place, protected from heat anddirect sunlight.-Shelf life is one year from packing date in unopened original containers at 5 to 30C.

Containers should be kept tightly closed.

Safety:

Avoid skin or eye contact. Prolonged contact may cause irritation of the skin and mucousmembranes.
