• A CLASSROOM PERFORMANCE-BASED ASSESSMENT

• Scored by the teacher (or a group of teachers)

• Provide awareness of individual students meeting standard on what they need to be able to do (not just know) in the arts

It is a summative assessment (but can be used as a formative assessment)

School News Music Theme

• The principal of your school has announced that a new television news show will be started in the school. The news show will be broadcast throughout the school each morning to every classroom. You have been asked to write a musical “theme” that will be played at the beginning and end of the show.

• Your “theme” needs to be at least 15 seconds in length and can be written in standard or modified notation.

• If you piece is selected to be used for the show, it will be orchestrated by the music teacher for any group of five instruments.

• When you complete your melody, you will need to write the names of the five instruments you would like to use in your musical composition.
