LION KEITH LION KEITH MCCORD ELECTED MCCORD ELECTED TO LVBI BOARD TO LVBI BOARD

The Lions Volunteer Blind Industries, Inc. Board of Governors, meeting April 25, 2015 in Morristown, elected Tri-County Lion Keith McCord to serve on the Board of Directors, effective July 1. Lion Keith, a past club president,will serve again as club president during the 2015-16 Lion Year. He is the director at NHC's Holston Health andRehabilitation Center.

Lions Volunteer Blind Industries was established in 1951 to provide meaningful employment for people whoare blind or visually impaired, with manufacturing facilities in Morristown and Johnson City. Products forcommercial and government sales include bedding, paper, sewing, and other lines. The company has growninto a highly competitive work environment where quality, delivery, and competitive pricing drive the market.

Congratulations and best wishes as Lion Keith pursues this new avenue of service.

The GAVI Alliance and Lions Clubs International partnership helps to protect tens of millions ofchildren in the world’s poorest countries against measles, a highly infectious disease that kills anestimated 430 people every day, mostly in developing countries. Lions Clubs International fundsand improves access to vaccines through the GAVI Alliance, a public-private partnership whosemission is to save children’s lives and protect people’s health by increasing access toimmunization in the world’s poorest countries.

Lions recognize Helen Keller Day June 1. Did you know her birthplace inWest Tuscumbia, Alabama is now a museum and sponsors an annual"Helen Keller Day"? Her birthday on June 27 was authorized at the federallevel by presidential proclamation by President Jimmy Carter (a Lion) in1980, the 100th anniversary of her birth.

It was June 30, 1925 when she urged Lions to become Knights of the Blindin the crusade against darkness.

ICE CREAMYUMMY SUMMER PROJECT: Let's all turn out for the Great 2015 Ice Cream Social for thecommunity's senior citizens June 20, 3:30pm. We will set everything up in the office of the seniorhousing complex. Please meet at Connie's by 3:15 so we can be prepared in time. See you there!

2015 Miss America Kira Kazantsev sings "God Bless America" on the Lions Clubs float at the National Memorial DayParade May 25 in Washington, DC. The float was sponsored by Lions Clubs of Washington, DC, Delaware, Maryland,and Virginia, with more than 100 clubs represented. The parade moved down Constitution Avenue and featuredmilitary units from all branches of the armed services. Strike 1 for the Annual Picnic/BallgameJune 8 as severe storms kept moving throughthe area. Nevertheless, the picnic was greatfun with great friends. Calhouns at the Yardprovided the bar-be-que and other traditionalpicnic foods, and a comfortable and coveredfacility out of the weather.

In spite of the storms, the turnout of Lions,friends, and family members was great!

NEPAL UPDATELCIF has mobilized more than US$400,000 in grants and donations from Lions for both immediate and long-term recovery efforts in Nepal.

The Lions of Nepal continue to put the needs of their neighbors ahead of their own and will work for as long as it takes to rebuild.

Lion Jim Grubb Transfers Membership

It is now official; friend and fellow Lion Jim Grubb, who moved to Harriman last year, has transferred membership to the Middletown, KY Lions Club nearby.
