Sweden’s largest walking event!

Linnémarschen is Sweden´s largest hiking event and 2015 marks the 39th event in unbroken succession. Our goal is to be the obvious choice for anyone who likes to walk in the countryside, whether you are a long or short distance walker, a fast or easy going walker you will enjoy the forests around Borås .

Since 2012 Linné marsch /walk is part of the IML, which is the International Association of hikes all over the world. IML encourages participation at walking events in other countries. As part of this we are launching IML Nordic, which is a collaboration with IML walks in Denmark, Norway and Finland. IML Nordic aims to encourage people to participate in hikes in their neighbouring country, which might be a first step towards longer treks out into the world.

We also continue to develop the Sunday Availability Courses that we introduced in 2014. At this years hike you can, if you like, try the Flex- O , which is a way of making the orientation accessible to people with different types of disabilities. Flex -O is a project run by “O-ringen”, the world’s largest orienteering event, which takes place in Borås 18th-24th July 2015.

Every year we receive many interesting suggestions on how we can develop Linné marsc /walk and make it an even better experience. Maybe your idea will become a reality in 2016 (23-24 April) when Linnémarschen celebrates 40 years of successive events, 270 years after Carl von Linné´s hiking trip in our area.

Carl Linnaeus (1707 - 1778) Internationally, Linnaeus is perhaps Sweden’s most famous person. As he travelled around the countryside, he made detailed notes of the flora, fauna and geology.

Linnaeus visited Borås in 1746 and was impressed by the richness of the landscape. He called the Rya

Åsar hills the ”Alps of Västra Götaland”. This area is now a nature reserve and much of the Walk leads through its beautiful countryside.

The Linnémarschen Walk is a great way to enjoy a day of healthy activity with friends in beautiful natural surroundings.

SUNDAY 26TH APRIL21 km Rya Åsar

Starts between 8 and 10 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m. Walking time: 3.5 to 5 hours. Sunday’s 21 km route through the Rya Åsar nature reserve is a challenging walk that exercises mind and body. The first section is very hilly, so it’s a good idea to take it easy in the beginning. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with an amazing view from Ryssby Klint. The walk then leads you past Ryssby pond, Hestrastugan, Sjögården and Hästhagen. Continue to Ramshulan via Almenäs and below the scree slopes on Rya Åsar, through Björbo’s meadows of wood anemone to the finish in Borås Arena.

This walk is part of the Borås Classic.

10,5 km ViskanStarts between 8 and 10 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m. Walking time: 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The 10.5 km Viskan walk is flatter and follows beautiful paths along the river Viskan to the boardwalk at Almenäs. The last stage passes through Björbo’s beautiful meadows to the finish in Borås Arena. A perfect walk to get you started!

3 km Accessibility CourseStarts between 8 and 10 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m. Walking time: aprox 1.5 hours.

8 km Accessibility CourseStarts between 8 and 10 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m. Walking time: aprox 2.5 hours. Last year we introduced the accessibility courses. This year we give you the chance to try out Flex-O orienteering, orienteering for all, on one station.

A treat for all your senses.Linnémarschen 2015 offers varied pleasures in beautiful springtime countryside. Spend one or two days with your family or friends on adventurous walks through Swedish forests, with a choice of distances from 6 km to 42 km. What better way to greet the spring!

SATURDAY 25TH APRIL42 km Marathon Walk

Starts between 8 and 9 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m.Walking time: 7 to 10 hours.

The 42 km Marathon Walk offers you a full day of exercise and an out-of-the-ordinary experience. The walk takes you along beautiful trails and paths around Borås, with an exotic start through the zoo. You pass many favourite local spots, including Svarttjärn nature reserve and lake Pickesjön. The last stage of the walk takes you through Borås City and the town square with its magnificent flower displays and famous sculptures and then alongside the river Viskan to Borås Arena where the walk ends. This walk is part of the Borås Classic.

21 km Kype-YmerStarts between 8 and 9 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m.Walking time: 3.5 to 5 hours. The 21 km Kype-Ymer route follows the Marathon Walk circuit through Borås Zoo and Kype woods up to Ymergården. It then turns back and follows a variety of mostly gentle, downhill trails and paths through the forest. The last stage of the walk follows the same rout as the Marathon Walk, through Borås City and alongside the river Viskan.

This walk is part of the Borås Classic.

10,5 km KypeStarts between 8 and 9 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m.Walking time: 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The 10.5 km Kype walk is for those who want a somewhat shorter distance in slightly easier terrain, but still want to enjoy the real countryside. This walk offers lots of variation along beautiful paths and trails in Kype woods, with an exotic start through the zoo. After four kilometres, shortly after the water stop at Kypegården, the walk doubles back through Kype woods before joining the same route as the other walks through Borås City and alongside the river Viskan.

Hestra idrottsförening grundades 1921 och har drygt 500 medlemmar. Organiserad träning bedrivs nästan varje dag, inom främst orientering och längdskidor.

Klubben utgår från Hestrastugan på Ekås i norra Borås. Hestrastugan går att hyra för såväl konferenser, bröllop som fester. Här finns motionsspår med elljus och en ny konstsnö-anläggning. På söndagar under vår och höst arrangeras tipspromenader.

The IML Walking Association is an independent organisation whose purpose is to promote and market international multi-day walking events in countries around the world.
