Chemical composition: preserves soft tissue.Helps delay decomposition. These conditions include highly acidic water,

cold temperature, and a lack of oxygen, combining to preserve but severely tan their skin (natural mummification).

More than a thousand Iron Age corpses, so called bog bodies, have been found in bogs in Northern Europe.

Pete Marsh otherwise known as the Lindow Man is at the centre of a 2,000 year old murder mystery.

He was alive when the Romans ruled nearby Manchester and he died a brutal and violent death.

symbols is "triplism" - with Lindow Man, much has been made of his apparent triple death:

1) He seems to have been viciously strangled and garrotted-his throat split from one end to the other;

2) His head bears evidence that he was bludgeoned by something like the blunt side of an axe blade;

3) His neck and torso reveal other marks, such as stab wounds, that can be explained by violent events.

But who was he?

What do we know about him?

Life in Late Stone Age Britain• The use of Iron was

introduced around 700 BC and used for tools and weapons.

• Gold and other materials used for coins and jewellery.

• Bigger settlements of roundhouses were built.

• Built large hill forts.
