In 2005, we presented Jazz Legend, Dianne Reeves with special guest, The Auntie Karen All Stars, South Carolina’s Finest Musical Talent. Patrons are still raving about Al Jarreau (2006) and Patti Austin (2007). In 2008, we welcomed The Joe Sample Trio and Take 6. While in 2009, we show-cased funk Legend, George Duke and jazz vocalist, Rachelle Ferrell. 2010 brought us the singer/songwriter duo, Ashford & Simpson. Join us on February 25, 2011, at The Koger Center for the Arts in Colum-bia, SC, as we welcome 10 time Grammy Award winner, singer, songwriter, producer, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

The Auntie Karen Foundation created the Legends of...Concert Series to pay tribute to the contributions African American mu-sic has made to history. Each year during Black History Month, the series profi les a jazz, rhythm and blues, gospel or blues artist who has made a lasting contribution to the history of music. The series places a special emphasis on Jazz Legends. In addition, we have extended our series to include “Legends of...In the Schools”. “Legends of...In the Schools” is a series of art events designed to salute African American Heritage. Events include: Folk Art, Quilting, Dance, Spoken Word, Writ-ten Word and Music. Through a partner-ship with The Columbia Museum of Art, on the last Saturday in January 2011, we will feature some of the best local and regional artists at no cost to the public.

Annual Young Entrepreneur’s Conference For the eighth year, this innovative conference held on the campus of Benedict College has brought together youth (ages seven to twenty two) from across the region to foster economic empowerment. Each year, ten young entrepreneurs under the age of twenty fi ve are featured. Auntie Karen’ s Place TV Pilot: Auntie Karen’s PlaceThe Auntie Karen Foundation partnered with SC ETV and Palmetto Health Children’sHospital to produce a 30-minute DVD that uses puppets and music to provide a simple way to explain life skills such as: health, emergency preparedness, jazz music and fi nancial literary. The Foundation received a grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia and SC Competitive Grants program.

Kenny “Babyface”EdmondsIf you were to closely examine the annals of modern pop music history, few creative forces have been more seminal or impacted the contemporary pop/urban genres as much as Kenny “Baby-face” Edmonds. In a relatively short time, he has reached icon status as a poignant tunesmith, prolifi c hit maker/producer, super-star recording artist, and revolutionary label owner. He is a statisti-cal juggernaut, who keeps adding milestone after milestone to a legacy that seems to have no threshold or peak in sight.

A 10-time Grammy winner with 11 solo albums of his own, Ed-monds’ impeccably crafted explorations of love, romance and rela-tionships have made an indelible imprint on the evolution of con-temporary pop music throughout the world: over 125 Top-10 R&B and Pop hits, 42 #1’s R&B hits, and 51 Top-10 Pop hits (including 16 #1’s), which have produced single and album sales in excess of

over 500 million units worldwide.

Just a few of the vocalists from which his music can be heard: Whitey Houston, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Eric Clapton, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jackson, TLC, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, John Mellencamp, Brandy, Aretha Franklin, Fall Out Boy, Pink, Charlie Wilson, Chrisette Michele.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including Soul Train Music Awards, BMI Awards, NAACP Im-age Awards, and American Music Awards. Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds was the recipient of the third BET Walk of Fame Award (previous honorees were Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston), and was named BET’s “Entertainer of the Year” at the First Annual BET Awards Ceremony. He will receive a star on Hollywood’s legendary Walk of Fame in Feb. 2011.

Edmonds’ charitable work is as impressive as his professional accomplishments. His caring and gen-erosity have garnered him several awards, including the Essence Award for Excellence, The City of Hope Award, and Variety Magazine’s “Top of the Town” Honoree Award. He was National Spokesman for Boarder Babies, and personally helped raise over $500,000 for a transitional home, The Little Blue House, located in Washington D.C. Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds has also personally donated over $100,000 to the VH-1 Save the Music program. He continues to contribute to a host of other worth-while organizations, including the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

In 2008, Kenny Edmonds combined his musical prowess with his charitable efforts, co- writing and producing the song “Just Stand Up” with longtime partner Antonio “L.A.” Reid, which served as the backbone of a multi-network breast cancer awareness special. The song featured such current heavy-weights as Beyonce, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood, Miley Cyrus and Sheryl Crow. Most recently, Edmonds and Reid were honored by the Noble Awards for their contribution to Stand Up To Cancer.

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds also launched his new Soda Pop Records imprint through Island Def Jam in 2009, with its fi rst release by Kristinia DeBarge. Kenny is currently in the studio working on new ma-terial for his next solo album, due for release in 2010.
