currently.Director Mike Ludvik asked

if the additional busing service was really needed to increase attendance. Board members also asked about whether a fee for the service and the impact a fee would have when students eligible for free and reduced food service is considered.Laager will provide board

members with additional infor-mation for discussion at an up-coming meeting.

Beefi ng Up theWeight Room

Laager addressed some of the district’s facilities needs with the board during the evening workshop. One possible im-provement project that could be implemented without sig-nifi cant cost is the weight room downstairs at the junior-senior high school. The room is considered small

and the equipment in it old and not readily replaceable. Coach-es that work in the weight room keep broken equipment in a storage area to repair if some-thing breaks down. There is

also some safety concerned with sections of raised fl oor within the weight room, Laager said. The weight room serves over

400 junior and senior high school student-athletes during the fall, he said.“I know there’s a lot of sup-

port for the weight room, but you go down there and you feel like you’re in a dungeon,” Laager said.Using in-kind contributions,

donations from sports associa-tion and some funding from the district, Laager hopes to reduce a $60,000 proposal to below

$40,000. The idea is to expand the weight room and acquire more up-to-date equipment. Lenz and Ludvik are interested in the addition of cardiopulmo-nary-enhancing equipment for the weight room.Board members will visit the

weight room before the Oct. 26 board meeting to get a look at a possible expansion. The other signifi cant facili-

ties issue the board touched on is the auditorium. But board members are hesitant to take on that task, noting the proposed $7 million price tag would take a bond referendum.
