Noteables Take anUpbeat Look at Lifein April 24 ConcertThe Noteables will be sharing

a world of song in their upcom-ing concert, “It’s a wonderful world” Sunday, April 24, 4 p.m.In the face of seemingly end-

less bad news each day, the group will sing about all the positives in the world -- top-ics like love, making music and self-therapy. The group will perform “what I Did for Love,” “we are the Music Mak-ers,” and “Dream, when you’re Feeling Blue.”Of course, the Noteables ac-

knowledge there may be some tough times. They’ll perform “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” and “you Raise Me Up.”“It’s a wonderful world” also

mixes in a little geography --“Cross the wide Missouri,” “Theme from New york, New york” and some special cuisine --“Green Eggs and Ham.” This Noteables concert promises to provide a trip around a mostly happy world and to inspire peo-ple to look on the positive side of life. The concert is set for Sunday,

(April 24) at Le Sueur/Hender-son Middle/High School Audi-torium.The Noteables are the area’s

community singing group. Formed in 2006, they have grown from 15 members to over 60 and include members from Le Sueur, Henderson, Le Center, Belle Plaine, Jordan, Edina, and St. Peter.“we are an area-wide com-

munity resource — for both singers and audiences,” says the group’s founder, Phyllis Fleischauer. “we charge no ad-mission, but we depend on do-nations to be able to purchase our music. with the increase in membership comes an in-crease in music costs. we hope our audience will help us out with their generous donations.” Gordon Gregersen, former LSH vocal music teacher, directs the group. Avis McDaniel of St. Peter is the accompanist. The school is at 901 Ferry

Street in Le Sueur. Admission is free but donations are appre-ciated.Refreshments will be served

after the concert.

Jordan Brewery Repairs Not as Costly as First ThoughtJordan recently received some

welcome news in the form of lower-than-expected costs for repairing the hillside behind the historic brewery that slid down into the building in June of 2014.Original estimates for stabiliz-

ing the hillside following the June 2014 storms were in the neighborhood of $1 million. The City of Jordan recently received updated estimates following a closer look at the hillside. The latest estimate for stabilization of the hillside is in the neighborhood of $154,000.The city received a $100,000

grant for preliminary design efforts on the brewery, the Jor-dan Independent recently re-ported. The city has also spent $52,737 on a topographic sur-vey and geo-technical work. The remaining grant money -- $47,263 -- will be applied to-ward the stabilization project. The city council unanimously

approved moving forward with the stabilization project. The city could seek additional

funding for the project. Some additional funding could be available because the brewery building has some historical value. It is on the National Reg-

istry of Historic sites. But those grants come with cost share agreements, said Mike walt-man, Jordan’s city engineer.City Administrator Tom Ni-

kunen said Rep. Tony Albright, R-Prior Lake, and Sen. Eric Pratt, R-Prior Lake, helped se-cure the state aid and are inter-ested in the historic aspect of the project. The remaining costs involve

repairs to the brewery. Jordan City Council member Terry Stier opposed using taxpayer money to pay for repairs to pri-vate property.Barbara Lee, whose grand-

mother owns the brewery prop-erty, said the family can’t afford the needed repairs. A govern-ment prohibition on insurance against damage from landslides has left the family in a lurch. They would have been able to fund the repairs if the property had been insured.“If it were a government build-

ing, FEMA would have covered it,” Lee said.Lee said the family would like

to fix up the brewery building to a condition the city wants. The building has also been the victim of vandalism.

Chaska Likes Housing Project for First-Timers, ‘Boomers’The Chaska City Council gave

its thumbs-up to a housing proj-ect that will be marked toward first-time homeowners and Baby Boomers. The city council conceptually

approved Pulte Homes’ 77-unit plan for northern Chaska. The plan calls for 50 row houses and 27 villa-style houses. The hous-ing development, the Chaska Herald recently reported, is to be marketed to first-time hom-eowners and people generally ages 51 to 70. It will be known as Pioneer Hollow.City Administrator Matt

Podhradsky said Chaska needs more housing aimed at the two demographic groups. The de-velopment will sit on 17 acres at the northeast corner of Pio-neer Trail and Bavaria Road.
