Most of the embankments are in vulnerable condition and exposed to further degradation due to tidal surge and impact of climate change.

Non-availability of drinking water is one of the most crucial problem in Dacope since the natural and usual source of water supply (community ponds) is disrupted due to intrusion of saline water.

The canals are almost dry and subjected to encroachment & siltation; hampering supplementary irrigation and drainage system.

Existing Resources Proposed DRR Interventions @ Re-construction of Earthen Dam with protection work against erosion. @ BFS road for the access to safe location. @ Sanitary latrines for heath hygine.

Impacts & Expected Results More than 350 families of which 57 are most vulnerable ultra-poor families (Rishi) will be saved directly from river flood inundation and erosion due to Cyclone event. Families will live in healthy environments by using sanitary latrine for better health hygiene. Access to the connecting village named Chunkuri through BFS road will facilitate move during disaster.

Haimchar upazila in Bangladesh

The Haimchar upazila of Chandpur District is one of the rapid erosional zones in lower Meghna.

Riverbank erosion, shifting of river course, population displacement are major concern towards DRR interventions.

The char environment itself is so uncertain that whenever there is any physical change, it immediately affects the settlements.

The displacement is primarily confined within the villages of the same union where displacees moved from the villages inside the union. Intra-union displacement is frequent, as displacees tend to take shelter in the villages within the same union .
