SHOW SUPPORT FOR NHS STAFF
BREWERS CORNER
ISSUE NINE APRIL 20th 2020
What's Up?
How is everyone? Strange times indeed as we enter our fourth week of
‘lock-down’ and visiting our favourite pub or taproom now seems like a
distant memory.
Not quite so many new craft beer releases this week which is
understandable as many brewers are sticking to their core range.
The good news is that most craft beer retailers and brewery online shops
seem to be extremely busy and most are posting notices on their website indicating delays in despatch due to the large number of
online orders. It seems that craft beer lovers are indeed doing their bit in continuing to enjoy fabulous beer in their own home. Many
are linking up with their drinking buddies via video links and sharing beers with each other virtually!
Once again, our Newsletter is packed with FREE adverts from breweries that have reached out to us. Buying directly from the brewery
is a huge boost to their bottom line. Now is not the time to be buying macro beers from the supermarkets! Great independent beer
needs your support to survive!
Stay safe everyone and continue to enjoy great craft beer!

BREWERS CORNER Miscellaneous Beery Stuff
Hot on the heels of the USA Brewers Association Survey from last week, this
week SIBA published the very sobering results from a survey of 262 Small
Independent UK Breweries, which showed an average 82% drop in beer sales,
with 65% having stopped production, whilst 31% have slowed production.
54% of those surveyed believe they are not able to access any of the
Government support programmes, and an overwhelming 81% believing that
the Government are not doing enough to support the Industry.
If one were to look for a bright-side to this situation from a Craft Beer
perspective, it is highly likely that the impact, although serious, has not been quite so devastating to
Breweries who were already packaging a significant percentage of their output before the lock-down.

SIBA continue to publish almost-daily emails on COVID-19 advice on their website. Here is a link to the
latest edition from Thursday 17th April, which contains the interesting advice that some local authorities
are extending the Business Rate Support to the Brewing Sector, even though it is not specifically called-out
in the legislation. It is definitely worth applying, if you haven't done so already...!

Meanwhile, The USA Brewers Association’s Craft Brewers Conference continues
online for the next four weeks, with lots of technical and business-related sessions
that could be of interest to UK Craft Brewers.
In total 70 industry experts will give 40 free presentations.
See the full schedule HERE and list of speakers HERE
Sessions this week include:
A Practical Approach to Refillable Kegs - Quality, Safety, and Maintenance
on Tue 21st April starting at 7pm UK time.
Finishing Processes: From Brilli(A)nt to Ha(Z)y
on Thu 23rd April starting at 7pm UK time.
BUY A PINT FOR NHS STAFF
BUY A PINT FOR NHS STAFF – Pay It Forward Scheme
If you buy the NHS a “pint” on any participating brewery’s web-shop, they'll make sure that a drink gets
into the hands of a well deserving NHS worker once we come off lockdown. They are true heroes and
deserve to be rewarded once this crisis has passed. It’s a Pay it Forward scheme that will benefit small
business as well as those that deserve our thanks.
A small group of breweries have got together to try and geographically represent the country so you can
give to the area you most want to support NHS staff in a post-pandemic world: Fyne Ales (Scotland), Wylam
(North East), Cloudwater (North West), North Brewing Co (Yorkshire), Verdant, and Left Handed Giant
(South West), Deya (West Midlands), Duration (East Anglia), Gipsy Hill (South East) and Boundary (Northern
Ireland).
