Jaipur roops from the In dian and the US armies will carry out war-fighting
drills in a combined opera tional environment and ex change expertise on con ventional, unconventional and hybrid threats at a two week exercise in Rajasthan beginning Monday.
The 'Yudh Abhyas' exer cise is taking place at a time both the countries have re newed their resolve to fur ther eJ..-pand strategic and defence cooperation to ef fectively deal with common challenges including Chi na's aggressive military pos turing in the Indo-Pacific regIOn.
The US Embassy said around 250 soldiers from each side will participate in the exercise from Febru ary 8-2l at Mahajan field firing range in Rajasthan.
"This annual training ex-
ercise enhances combined interoperability capabilities through training and cul tural exchange, which foster enduring partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region though common defence obja:tives," it said in a state ment.
The embassy said a field training exercise will in volve company-strength el ements from each nation
exercising combined, fun damental \\'"dr-fighting skills to enhance combined oper ational capacity.
The drill comes nearly two-and-a-half months af ter India carried out the Malabar naval exercise with the US, Japan and Aus tralia, which are the mem ber nations of the Quad or Quadrilateral coalition.
The US embassy said the
'Yudh Ahhyas' exercise pro vides excellent opportuni ties for professional and cultural exchanges that strengthen partnership be tween the two armies through shared learning and training. "Training commences with expert ac ademic exchanges and pro fessional development workshops that focus on training at the corps-level and below; combat against conventional, unconven tional and hybrid threats; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief," it said.
It said a 'command post exercise' will focus on UN peacekeeping operation tasks in a combined military setting. The Indo-US de fence ties have been on an upswing in the last few years. In June 2ol6, the US had designated India a "Major Defence Partner".
The two countries have also inked key defence and
security pacts over the past few years, iocluding the L0- gistics E.xchange Memo randum of Agreement (LEMOA) in 2016 that al lows their militaries use each other's bases for repair and replenishment of sup plies as well as provides for deeper cooperation.
The two sides have also signed COMCASA (Com munications Compatibility and Security Agreement) in 2018 that provides for in teroperability between the two militaries and provides for sale of high end tech nology from the US to India.
In October last ~ar, India and the US sealed the BECA (Basic Exchange and Co operation Agreement) agreement to further boost bilateral defence ties. The pact provides for sharing of high-end military tech nology, logistics and geospatial maps between the two countries.

Congress shielding Mukhtar Ansari, says UP minister
Over 6 lakh health, frontline workers administered COVID-19 vaccines in UP
"In view of the January 26 incidents in Delhi, some anti-social elements and aggressive youth creating law and order problems, cannot be ruled out," as per the communication dat ed February 4.
"The government is al ways ready for talks and the prime minister has said the d{X)rs for talks are open. So, they should come fonvani ," he said.
Lucknow Uttar Pradesh minister Sid harth Nath Singh on Friday alleged that the Congress was shielding gangster turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari and party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyan ka Gandhi Vadra have &ym pathy for him.
"UP government has a policy of zero-tolerance to wards corruption and crim inals, which has unsettled the parties used to support gangsters" Singh, who is the minister of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) as well as the spokesperson for the gov ernment, said.
He said it \\'"dS ~shameful"
to see how Congress is shielding gangsters who are a threat to society.
"The dual character of the Congress party for sup porting dreaded gangsters like Ansari for its own po litical gains and turns a blind eye towards the suf feringsof the common pe0- ple needs to be e..-posed," he said.
Singh questioned the ~ in-
tentions" of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi as the Congress-ruled Punjab government was not trans ferring Mau MLAMukhtar Ansari to Uttar Pradesh.
Ansari is an accused in the murder of one Krish nanand Rai and is current Iy lodged in Ropar jail in Punjab.
"My question to the Con gress President, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Varlm is, what is the reason for this sympathy? The entire country is aware of how many people have fallen victim to his atroci ties. How can you overlook this," Singh said in a state ment.

"So, it is my appeal to farmers leaders that they should call off their chakka jam programme," said Vij.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting since late November at Delhi"s borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, demanding a rollback of the three agri laws.
The protesting farmers have expressed apprehen sion that these laws would pave the way for the dis mantling of the minimum support price (MSP) sys tem, leaving them at the "mercy" of big corporations.
However, the govern ment has maintained that the new laws ,viII bring bet teropportunities to fann ers and help introduce new trehnologies in agriculture.
