Students will be focused on consolidating their skills in preparation for transitioning into the next level in 2019. There are a number of activities planned for students across all levels. In October there will be excursions for Year 5 to Werribee Zoo; Year 2 to Coal Creek, and the Year 3 camp to Mt Morton. And of course the disco is scheduled for October 24. Year 6 students are on the count down towards their graduation which this year will be held on Wednesday 19 December. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL I am delighted to announce that Mrs Debra Haddow has been appointed as our new Assistant Principal at LPPS. Mrs Haddow will be leading Student Welfare and Wellbeing and we wish her all the best in this new stage of her career. 2019 PLANNING We are now in the planning stage for 2019 where we begin the process of constructing classes for the coming year. If you have any information that you believe is relevant to your child’s learning needs, please let me know in writing by Wednesday 24 October. Please note, however, that this is not an invitation to request particular teachers. Also, as part of our planning, it will be very helpful to know as soon as possible if your child will not be attending Langwarrin Park PS next year. Determining the composition of classes for 2019 is a comprehensive process and consideration is given to the academic, social and emotional needs of all students. Decisions about class structures are based on enrolment numbers, staffing and funding. Students will also be given the opportunity to choose fellow students who they believe they work well with. We work hard to ensure that they are paired with at least one of their choices. SUNSMART Now that we are into Term 4 it is essential that all children have a broad brimmed hat to wear when they are outside. These can be purchased from PSW; please ensure that your child’s hat is clearly named. Denise Webster

SCHOOL WIDE COMPOSTING It is time to get composting! Behind the scenes, Sophie, Charlotte and Lily B, along with students from 5/16 have been working on improving our environment. We are excited about implementing a composting program across the school. Us girls, hand wrote a letter and sent it to Bunnings. Bunnings have kindly donated seven large and thirty-five small composting bins, so our school can start composting. Now, we need everyone’s help. All you need to do….is throw your food scraps into your classroom compost bin. By doing this, it will prevent food scraps at Langwarrin Park Primary from going to landfill and instead, all our food scraps will be recycled and reused as compost for our gardens. This exciting new program includes all classrooms receiving their very own composting bin, along with area bins too. There will also be one in the staffroom for the teachers to use too! For all your artists out there, a competition for a composting label design will commence soon. Stay tuned!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DIVISIONAL ATHLETICS As mentioned in the newsletter last term, 23 students qualified for the Northern Division Athletics Competition. In very wintery conditions our students performed exceptionally well, with the majority of our students placing in their individual events as well as the relay events. Congratulations and well done to all the athletes; not only did they give 100% when they competed, their behaviour was excellent and support for all competitors was fantastic. Thank you to all parents who assisted with transportation of their child and supported all our athletes. A special thank you to the following parents who transported other students: Matt Moore (Lachie Moore 6/7) and Enza Neilson (Charlotte Neilson 6/7). 3/22 – Alex Healy, Mikayla Coutts The students who finished 1st or 2nd have now qualified for the Southern Metropolitan Regional competition which will be held at Casey Fields next Thursday; we wish them all the best.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION continued FOOTY DAY – 7TH SEPTEMBER At the end of last term, watched by many parents, the students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the football parade, which was a precursor to the walk-a-thon. It was great to see so many energetic students walking the course, socializing with their peers and teachers. At lunchtime, the House Captains and Vice Captains organized a Longest Kick competition in which many of the Years 3 – 6 students participated in. Prizes were awarded to students who had the longest kick for their House, as well as the longest kick overall for their year level. Congratulations to the following students: (nb. Students highlighted in red had the longest kick for the year level)

PMP – LAST SESSION MONDAY 29TH OCTOBER Over the last two terms, the Foundation students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the PMP program. It has been wonderful to watch the development of students’ in their perceptional skills as well as their motor skills. Mrs Peluso and the Foundation Team teachers have appreciated the support of the Parent Helpers during the Monday sessions. With a busy Term 4, the last session will be on Monday 29th October. It would be wonderful to see as many Parent Helpers assisting with the last two sessions, as the students love to “show off” their skills to the parents. CONGRATULATIONS – MR DAVID ROSSER During the holidays, Mr Rosser was busy representing Victoria at the National Hockey Championships. Mr Rosser played extremely well throughout the tournament and was valuable member of the Victorian team which finished 3rd overall. Mr Rosser’s performance throughout the tournament was so impressive that he was selected for the Australian team. Over the next 6 months Mr Rosser will be preparing for the International tournament which will be held on the Gold Coast next May. We wish Mr Rosser all the best and look forward to seeing him in his Australian team uniform. Congratulations Mr Rosser.

LIBRARY

library.langwarrinparkps.vic.gov.au TERM 4 HAPPENINGS Welcome back to Library for our final term. The sun is shining and we are developing an outdoor area at the back of our Library for reading. This will be known as our “THRIVE ZONE”, an area for reading and relaxing during recess and lunchtime play. There will be seating and mobile shelving full of books and magazines. We will keep you updated as this project develops. We are looking forward to receiving our Premiers’ Reading Challenge certificates in the mail to hand out to all students that met this years Challenge. This term we are starting to think about the wonderful job our current Library Leaders have done and begin looking for our 2019 leaders. We hope we will have some interested students to join me in keeping this room the fun and organised space that it is. This week Issue 7 of Book Club was distributed and is due back by Wednesday 17 October. There will be one more Issue to follow which will complete the year. We are continually grateful for the support of this valuable program that encourages reading and rewards our school with new resources. As a thank you from Scholastic we have again qualified for a Buy One Book, Get One Book FREE Book Fair. Next month we will be holding the event in our Library from Monday 12—Wednesday 14 November. There will be an exciting opportunity this year to donate a book to your child’s classroom or to the Library or even to take as a gift for yourself. This will be done in a lucky dip style…..a new spin on this annual event…...more details to follow! Call in and see how fabulous our Morris Gleitzman mural looks hanging on our back wall! Looking forward to a busy and exciting Term. Kate Mowat Library Manager
