RESPECT COOPERATION CONSIDERATION CONTRIBUTION TOLERANCE PRINCIPALS REPORT WELCOME BACK—TERM 4 Welcome back everyone – I hope that you had a great holiday and either enjoyed a relaxing 2 weeks or took the time to do the wonderful things that you never seem to have the opportunity to do. My thanks go to Richard Barren, Deb Haddow and David Rosser for ‘steering the ship’ so well while I was away on leave last term. Great news from our school councillors who applied for a grant from Bendigo Bank and were successful in gaining $1000.00 which will go towards the playground refurbishment fund. We are very appreciative of this contribution to our playground project. Our 30 year celebration is fast approaching and shortly you will see advertising boards strategically placed so that the news of this event is highlighted in our community. We thank Ray White Real Estate (through Austin Phillips) for their support in providing these boards. If you know of people who attended LPPS over the past 30 years and think would be interested in helping us celebrate this occasion, please pass on the relevant information. We are already in the process of planning and shortly we will be constructing classes for 2020. Determining the composition of classes is a comprehensive process and consideration is given to the academic, social and emotional needs of all students. Decisions about class structures are based on enrolment numbers, staffing and funding. Students will also be given the opportunity to choose fellow students who they believe they work well with. We work hard to ensure that they are paired with at least one of their choices. If you have any information that you believe is relevant to your child’s learning needs, please let me know in writing; please note, however, that this is not an invitation to request particular teachers. Information which impacts the formation of classes, unfortunately, will not be able to be taken into account if it is received after Friday 25 October. Also, as part of our planning, it is important that we know as soon as possible if your child will not be attending Langwarrin Park PS next year. This information can be given to Joyce or Fiona in the office or you can send a letter or email through to me. Have a great term everyone – keep an eye on this newsletter and school dojos as there is always something coming up in such a busy term. Our end of term wellbeing sessions

focussed on identifying and

celebrating our character strengths.

Across all levels students engaged in

a range of activities that lead to this

outcome. Students not only enjoyed

identifying these qualities but loved

hearing what their peers thought

were their strengths. It was such a

positive learning experience and we

hope you heard all about it!

ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 Enrolments for Foundation/Prep 2020 have been collected. Zoning guidelines commence next year enabling students who live near their local school to have priority over a placement there. If you wish to attend a school outside of your zoned area you need to contact the school to discuss the availability of placement. We have commenced our 2020 Foundation transition sessions, with our first one last term. We have 4 more to follow this term. Whilst the students are engaged in classroom activities and school experiences our Curriculum Leaders provide information session to the parents about the programs at our school.

We are also starting to look at 2020 classes for the rest of the school. If your child will be attending a different school in 2020 could

you please let the front office know so a smooth transition process can occur.

LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES Thank you to our Play Leaders who continue to run activities in the front courtyard every lunch time. Thank you to the many staff who are running Lunch Time Clubs to offer an array of activities to the students. We have Homework, Lego, Dance, Drawing and Chess Clubs. Remember to check out the Blue Carpet area where there are a range of quiet activities such as drawing and origami. Check to see if there are places available in Room 21 to play also with our ES aides.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS Thank you for your continued support in the classrooms and at Breakfast Club. You truly do help to make a difference.

Everyone is welcome, you just need a WWCC.

UNIFORMS Thank you Mrs Jackson for continuing to organise and sort the Lost Property tub. Please make sure your child’s clothing is clearly labelled so we can get it back to you each week.

We also have second hand uniforms available, there’s a sale each term so keep a look out for dates! If you need some assistance

between times just let Deb Haddow know.

BREAKFAST CLUB It’s open from 8:15-8:45 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If students are at school before this time they should be in the care of an adult or in Before School Care. Breakfast Club opens at 8:15am. Everyone is welcome to come and have something to eat or even just a chat.

Thank you to our Education Support staff who run the program together with a parent volunteer. We always have room for more volunteers, just let us know if you are interested. It’s become a very popular place to be.

SPONSORS A huge thanks to our sponsors who assist us with providing programs for the students. Coles helps immensely with the Breakfast Club. We also have some private sponsors that provide assistance financially to help us give every student the opportunity to participate in as many of our great programs as possible. Thank you also to Strike Bowl, Lunar Drive In, Zone Bowling, Pancake Parlour, the canteen and Moonlight Sanctuary for their vouchers. We are very grateful for their kindness and support.

IS YOUR QKR PROFILE SHOWING YOUR CHILD’S CURRENT CLASS? You will need to update your child’s details on QKR at the beginning of every year to show their new year level and grades. Please ensure you have the latest version of QKR—just update and you are ready to go. Qkr! offers a “push notification” function whereby you will be notified if something relevant to your child’s level has been added to Qkr! Please ensure that you have opted in to this feature by opening the Qkr! App, going into Settings (by clicking the 3 horizontal bars in the top left of the screen) and opt in to receive push notifications. You can also just go into Settings on your phone, scroll down to Qkr! and change notification function there. Please ensure you have the correct grade and room number registered for your child/ren. This will avoid delays in processing Qkr! Payments. Check our school website for more information on Editing personal details or Forgotten Password how to guides. EXCURSION / INCURSION FORMS Excursion forms need to be returned to the teacher by the due date and payment made to the Finance Office via QKR/BPay/eftpos or classroom teacher. It is imperative that we have forms returned so that student numbers can be confirmed. For example, where extra teachers are needed for swimming etc. WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK On 1 August 2017 legislation changed which requires everyone in direct contact with students to obtain a Working with Children Check. For full details please visit the website by following the link from our school website finance page. If you are assisting with swimming, excursions or within the school you must have a valid WWCC. If you have organised your WWCC please check the expiry dates to ensure it is current and notify the Finance Office of new dates. We value the support of our families and appreciate your compliance with these requirements to protect our students. Sue Guest Shona Byrnes & Bridgit Dooley Business Manager Accounts Receivable

YEAR 5 SPACE EXPO

Year 5 students were very excited to share their work during their Space Expo. The students explored many aspects of our Solar

System during the term. They presented a 2D scaled model of our Solar System, which had many interesting facts. The students also

presented their Space Design and Technology projects which saw them research, plan, produce and evaluate a 3D model related to

the Solar System. We even had a model of the moon landing! It was great to see so many families here to help us celebrate a

successful term!

LIBRARY

library.langwarrinparkps.vic.gov.au THRIVE ZONE LAUNCH With this beautiful sunshine starting to appear we will be opening our new THRIVE ZONE. This is the area directly outside the back doors of our Library. We have 2 new THRIVE coloured outdoor settings installed thanks to the EMC Hands On Learning Team. Our second hand uniform shop has donated 30 individual cushions for students to sit comfortably on outside. Rolls of artificial turf have been donated thanks to the McNeilage family (Hugh 3/23 & Max 5/14). This area will be transformed each sunny lunchtime into a reading oasis. The space will be one that students may enter with their book or magazine to sit and read. There will be mobile shelves containing library books and a magazine rack too. We will have white picket fences to indicate the area in which books and cushions are to remain. Within this space students will be encouraged to read and enjoy uninterrupted quiet time. We are so looking forward to opening this space from Monday (weather permitting each day). Look out for photos in our next newsletter! NEW INFORMATION BOOKS Look at our beautiful new Non-Fiction collection of books. Non-fiction books contain interesting facts and are perfect for reluctant readers as they usually provide snippets of information with pictures. They really appeal to students that love fact based learning and can be the springboard to motivate further enquiry. We are subscribed to STANDING ORDER for Non-Fiction which means each month we receive a box of books based on: Current Issues/Topics relevant to students changing world Current Curriculum There are some beautiful books as shown. Some of the subjects covered include: Sustainability, Explorers, Internet, Software, Collage, Poetry, Science, Parliament, Asian Neighbours, Antarctica, Pollution, Natural disasters, and Mapping. Take a closer look on our library website, they are listed in the Quick Lists tab—Lamont Non-Fiction. Kate Mowat Library Manager

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DIVISIONAL ATHLETICS As mentioned in the newsletter last term, 30 students qualified for the Northern Division Athletics Competition. Our students performed exceptionally well, with the majority of our students placing in their individual events as well as the relay events. Congratulations and well done to all the athletes; not only did they give 100% when they competed, their behaviour was excellent and support for all competitors was fantastic. Thank you to all parents who assisted with transportation of their child and supported all our athletes. A special thank you to the following parents who transported other students: Vicki Doyle (Noah Doyle 5/11), Sarah McNeilage (Max McNeilage) and Deb Healy (Alex Healy 4/26). Photos below and results grid on next page: the students who finished 1st or 2nd (in bold on the grid) have now qualified for the Southern Metropolitan Regional competition which will be held at Casey Fields next Thursday; we wish them all the best.
