The children have slipped right back into the routine of classwork and the feedback from teachers is that they are ready and keen to focus on their learning, as well as eager to reconnect with their friends and teachers. In every class there has been a focus on supporting students’ social and emotional wellbeing and our THRIVE program is helping everyone as we adjust to working on-site. Drop off and pickup times are working well and families are gradually getting used to the process again. Could I ask though, that if you are walking your children to school and you have your dog with you, could you please keep very clear of the gates (saying your goodbyes before you get near the gates) as we have a number of children who are a little anxious about dogs that they don’t know. FOUNDATION 2021 On Wednesday we held an Information session for parents of our 2021 Foundation students. Restrictions meant that we had to have it ‘virtually’ but we were still able to provide a great deal of information to assist parents as they prepare for the new school year. The transition program for students will be held over three sessions in November and December – we will let the parents know soon what the exact format of this will be, particularly if we have some easing of the restrictions in place in the Melbourne and Metropolitan area. PLANNING FOR 2021 Decisions about class structures are based on enrolment numbers, staffing and funding. Teachers provide us with information about how well students work and interact with each other and this, together with students’ own choice of classmates who they believe they work well with, assist us with our decision making. We work hard to ensure that students are paired with at least one of their choices. If you have any information that you believe is relevant to your child’s learning needs, please let me know in writing; note, however, that requests for individual teachers will not be considered. Letters from previous years do not carry through, so if you have any educational requests related to your child’s class placement in 2021, please ensure that a written request is sent prior to October 30, 2020. We cannot guarantee that requests after this date will be able to be considered. Also, as part of our planning, it is most important that we know as soon as possible if your child will not be attending Langwarrin Park PS next year. This information can be given to Joyce Stocker or Fiona Smith in the office or you can send a letter or email through to me. A COUPLE OF REMINDERS Hats are necessary at this time of year and, as part of our Sun Smart Policy, it is compulsory for students to wear them when outdoors, for learning activities or for play. This needs to be a broad brimmed hat. Next Friday, 23 October is the AFL Grand Final public holiday. No school on this day Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Denise Webster

FINANCE OFFICE CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSION FUND (CSEF) In acknowledgement of the significant and ongoing challenges facing our parent community, the Minister for Education has approved that the eligibility to qualify for CSEF be extended to 5 October 2020, with NEW applications due by 27 November 2020. The CSEF provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like: • School camps or trips • Swimming and school organised sports programs • Outdoor education programs • Excursions and incursions. CSEF payments for these students will be made at 50 per cent of the standard primary rate, recognising that opportunities for camps, sports and excursions have been limited in 2020. LIBRARY

BOOK WEEK—CELEBRATING READING ALL TERM 4

We are happy that National Book Week was postponed to term 4. We will be celebrating this year a

little differently. Instead of a week long celebration with our character dress up Parade and Book

Fair, we are informally celebrating books and reading all term. Some of the ways in which we will be

doing this are:

Engaging students in the CBCA shortlisted books using a range of literacy and art activities.

We are announcing the outstanding participants and results of this years ‘virtual’ Premiers’

Reading Challenge below. Later in the term I will be handing certificates to the students that

met the Challenge.

Library books are back! Although we can not borrow books to take home this term, I am

extremely pleased to announce the safe way in which we will be getting library books back

into your child’s hands this term. Younger year levels will be receiving ‘Library Book Bundles’

delivered to their classroom each week. These will be level specific and include topics of

interest. These will be safely quarantined and changed on a weekly basis. Older levels will

be visiting the Library to select their own fiction book following safe guidelines. These books will be for classroom use only. All

books will be quarantined before being returned to our shelves. We trust students will enjoy having some new books again and

I am very excited to see our Library open, even if that looks a little bit different for now.

We can not have a Book Fair but we do have Issue 7 of Book Club available with lots of the books that would have been for

sale. The great news is that we can now deliver orders to the classroom.

To browse and place a cashless order go to: https://www.scholastic.com.au/media/5692/bc_720.pdf

Next newsletter we will be celebrating a past student who is now an accomplished Author! Watch this space….

PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE RESULTS

The Premiers’ Reading Challenge at LPPS finished at the end of term 3! ‘Challenge’ was the right word to describe the 2020 Reading

Challenge when we did not have our Library open to borrow books! Using virtual books or books from home, our school still managed

to end on a final tally of (drum roll please….) 3,418 books! A brilliant effort despite the additional challenges you were faced with. I

would like to recognise the Top 10 participants in Prep-2 and Years 3-6. It is wonderful to see each year level represented!

CANTEEN www.quickcliq.com.au

The canteen is up and running at full operation for term 4. I have been very excited to see all the students back this week. Canteen

will return to offering ‘paper bag’ orders, online orders and counter sales. I have a new revamped ‘Summer Menu’ which I am excited to

share with you, please be aware of price changes also.

I have completed Covid training to ensure that I have the best practices in place to ensure the safety of the students, teachers, and

myself. The canteen has always prided itself on its hygiene and food safety procedures, but we have tweaked a few things to improve

it.

The students are practicing social distancing

with supervision whilst at the canteen. Counter

sale items are all be individually wrapped, and

money is placed in containers. We are wearing

masks and gloves and have loads of sanitiser on

hand.

PS Gingerbread kids are unavailable until further

notice.

Thank you for your support.
