Meet the Team 27

Dear VIVA Family,

It is with pleasure that I deliver the first issue of VIVA’s quarterly newsletter. This quarterly newsletter will be an important milestone in our corporate internal strategy. Its mission is to update all VIVA employees and shed light on our latest news, promotions, and products. At VIVA, we seek to select the products that best satisfy the diverse needs of our customers and create offers that meet their expectations.

First, allow me to briefly introduce VIVA. Since the launch of its first operations in Kuwait three years ago, VIVA adopted the “Possible” slogan, which helped VIVA establish itself in the market by reaching out to clients and offering a variety of exclusive services tailored to serve the individual needs of our customers.

Keen on becoming the best telecom brand and the preferred choice of customers in Kuwait, VIVA adopted an energetic strategy based on creativity, transparency in dealing with our clients, commitment to meeting their needs and expectations and sharing with them their various interests and activities.

VIVA has managed to accomplish many achievements in a relatively short period of time; one of the major achievements is surpassing one million customers. This is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the whole VIVA family in delivering the latest technology and services in telecommunications to our customers. We have recently reinforced our position among international

companies after being awarded the ISO certification for the second consecutive year. Our growth does not stop at that. We have recently launched the VIVA App Club with Kuwait’s youngest application developer, 15-year-old Abdulrahman Al Zanki, and the participation of 60 young developers who got the opportunity to learn how to develop applications. In addition, we have launched the new VIVA Elite service that provides customers with personal assistant services, enabling them to easily manage their day-to-day professional and personal tasks.

This Elite service also includes VIVA Concierge services that allow eligible customers to access a large number of VIP Airport lounges around the world, making VIVA the region’s first telecom company that provides this service to its customers.

As part of our commitment towards the environment, VIVA sponsored the creation of VIVA Oasis, the largest oasis in Kuwait. The project aims at planting more than 3000 Buckthorn and Willow trees in the Nuwaiseeb Desert, South of Kuwait, in an effort to turn the area into a green oasis.

I would like to acknowledge the valued contribution of our loyal employees who have been the backbone of our cutting edge performance. Their hard work and commitment have made our achievements possible.

Together, we now look forward with confidence to a new chapter in the growth and progress of our company.

With Warm Regards,Eng. Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Badran Chief Executive Officer

To celebrate the trust of one million customers, VIVA commissioned professional 3D Artists Julian Beever and Peter Westerink to create a range of 3D illustrations and drawings in the three malls which hosted the Festival.

Julian Beever is an English chalk artist who has been creating chalk drawings on pavement surfaces since the mid-1990s. He uses a projection technique called anamorphosis to create the illusion of three dimensions when viewed from the correct angle. Peter Westerink is a street painter, who has been pioneering the field of fine arts and international street painting in particular since 2003, and since 2007 he has been an entrepreneur specializing in unique and high quality street painting concepts such as the Guinness 3D World Record and Street Painting World Tour.

VIVA’s management extends its warmest regards and thanks for all the hard work and commitment of every individual in VIVA’s family for their efforts in attracting over a million customers in such a short time period.

On July 28 2011, VIVA announced its five season sponsorship agreement with Manchester United Football Club, one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football, bringing local Red Devil fans closer to Old Trafford. In support of its sponsorship, VIVA kicked off the 2011/ 12 season with promotional offers and competitions with a range of great prizes, including chances to win VIP tickets to watch Manchester United play at Old Trafford in England.

Some of the attractive promotions that VIVA launched included a campaign for both its postpaid and prepaid customers, giving them the opportunity to attend a Manchester United Premier League game live at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. The campaign enabled VIVA’s customers to enter a draw and gain chances to win tickets to attend one of the most important matches before the 2012 Premier League football season ends. The five lucky winners each won an all expense paid trip to Manchester to see Manchester United play in one of their three remaining home games at Old Trafford this season.

One of the many exciting programs VIVA undertook was launching the Manchester United Soccer Academy to give young football players the chance to train at the Manchester United Soccer School. The first round of the trials led to the announcement of 50 winners in the preliminary stage who got the chance to train with the best football experts and meet the stars at the Manchester United Soccer School in Abu Dhabi. The announcement of the winners took place on 4 March 2012 and included participation by Andy Cole, a former Manchester

United star and ambassador to the club, who came to recognize the winners along with VIVA CEO, Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Badran and urged them to follow their dreams as it has become possible with VIVA.

The 50 players were selected from a special training program held on 3 March 2012 at (Hassan Abul) Soccer Complex, under the supervision of specialized experts. The winners went to Abu Dhabi for a three day coaching trip with experienced coaches, including two from the UK, who were qualified to deliver MUSS training programs. The training program focused on different technical areas, such as dribbling, short passing, turning and finishing. The programs were also designed to develop young players in other fields,

such as tactical understanding, and mental, physical and social growth. During the training program, the 50 players were thrilled to meet legendary Gary Andrew Pallister, former Manchester United defender who played for the team for nine years between 1989 and 1998. On May 2 2012, VIVA made the dream a reality when it announced the names of the lucky ten who will visit Manchester to practice at Manchester United’s Cardington training ground, and play a game at Old Trafford, the home

of Manchester United. All the finalist players enjoyed a fully funded week-long training camp in Manchester being trained by the best Manchester United coaches. The players traveled on 7 July, experienced the MUSS training from 8 until 13 July, played a game at Old Trafford, followed by a tour of Manchester City on 14 July and returned to Kuwait on 15 July.

The club will arrange workshops on a bi-weekly basis, and will include topics such as ‘basics of app development’ and ‘steps to create your own application’ which will guide young application developers to pursue their talent creatively. Department OverviewDepartment OverviewQuality Assurance and Project Management Office Overview

Quality Assurance and Project Management Office Overview

ISO What is it all about?

The Quality Assurance (QA) and Project Management Office (PMO) operate under the auspices of the Chief Executive Officer to promote best practices within the sphere of Quality Management System (QMS) and project management.

For PMO, our primary function is to coordinate the efforts between the various sectors within the company to ensure VIVA operates as a single unit, reduce waste of both financial and manpower resources and eliminate duplication of efforts. THE PMO also provide VIVA’s top management with updates through regular reports and verification of agreed deliverables at every stage of a project’s life cycle.

For QA, we have established best practices for QMS, reinforced ISO 9001:2008 standards for documenting what we do at VIVA through our policies, processes, procedures and work instructions. We work closely with our Internal Audit team to conduct regular audits thus ensuring issues or any non-conformities identified are corrected and communicated to the relevant stakeholders.

The synergy between QA and PMO can be demonstrated by the following examples; to fix an issue highlighted by QA may require a project which will be managed by PMO. QA will advise sectors and reinforce QMS for all projects.

In closing, we would like to sincerely congratulate all VIVA’s family for all the achievements attained thus far.

Most of you have probably overheard a colleague talk about ISO with reference to VIVA obtaining certification or audits being conducted by the Quality Assurance team. The big question is, “What is ISO really about”, and “what is the advantage of VIVA having an ISO certification.”

The word ISO is derived from isosceles as in isosceles triangle, a triangle of equal sides. ISO was first used by the International Organization for Standards in 1987. During the second world war countries had to pool their resources for the war efforts. For example Rolls Royce, a car company in England, made engines which were used in fighter planes made in America. They had to agree to a common “Standard” and thus the International Organization for Standardization was born in 1947 with their headquarters in Switzerland.

Let us fast forward to present day. The ISO family of standards which include 9001:2008 is a Quality Management System that provides a basic framework which can be applied to any business to increase the business’s ability to produce a product or a service with consistent quality.

VIVA’s re-certification for ISO 9001:2008 provides our organization with the basic framework to ensure the service which we deliver is in line with the highest quality as prescribed by International Organization for Standardization. The certification also gives our customers confidence in our products and services. By: VIVA Quality Assurance Team.
