Movement offers many benefits to children:

Importance of Activity*Childhood obesity is more prevalent each day.
*15.7% of kids are OVERWEIGHT
*16.3% of kids are OBESE
*70% of obese children will grow up to become obese adults
Why do children need Physical Activity?

*Weight Control
*Blood Pressure Control
*Reduce the Risk of Heart Disease
*Reduce Risk of certain Cancers (colon, stomach, etc.)

Solution?GET ACTIVE… children need
at least 30-60 minutes of physical
activity each day.
Parent Involvement:The Family should work as a team to promote a healthy lifestyle and activity.
*Use physical activity as a reward (family goes to the park, rather than food)
*Buy toys/games that promote activity
*Limit children’s “screen time” (TV, videogames, computer)
*Exergaming= Wii fit, Xbox Kinect
*Exercise as a FAMILY UNIT
