From Our Worthy Grand Knight Happy November Brothers!

With Thanks giving upon us, we recognize that we have so much to be thank-ful for, especially for our family, friends, Catholic faith, and our country. By now we have made it through another election day, and hopefully we begin to move on to some normalcy. Whatever the outcome, we know that the King of the Universe, our Lord Jesus Christ, holds everything in His hands, and we trust Him! We also know that Mary, our Mother, will always watch over the United States. Let us pray we come together as a nation and enlighten those elected with the wisdom and fortitude to do His will. O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we en-trust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of hu-man life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’ s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Mary Queen of Knights, Pray for Us!

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous ser-vice of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confi-dence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father Hail Mary Glory be to the Father

Fr. Michael J. McGivney is now Blessed Michael J. McGivney. Beatified on October 31, 2020 In a decree from the Vatican that was read at the Mass, Pope Francis credited now-Blessed Michael McGivney for his “zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel and generous concern for his brothers and sisters” that “made him an outstanding witness of Christian solidarity and fraternal assistance.”

Dear Grand Knight

George and I wanted to bring you up to date on the status of this years Knights Kids program. First from the Frank School nurse, Normalicia: There will be no bus drivers. No buses and no kids as Guadalupe has had over 300 deaths from COVID. Norma will come to the store alone with the profile sheets we can use for shopping. JCPenney will have no breakroom, no Santa chair or Santa, and no coffee or snacks. Volunteers will have to bring their own coffee. Also the store employees will still purchase toys for the boys and girls and will use the profile sheets for numbers and type. {boy or girl}. As for our council, our idea is to use the profile sheets to aid the council members and volunteers to do the shop-ping, and Nor ma will get the bags of items back to Frank School for distribution. George already has some In Country vets to help but the big surprise is that St Andrews Council wants to do the shopping along with us at the same time.. We may able to combine lists and save money for next year. We also won't need to start until 9am or so. Norma will let us know at the end of November as to how many boys or girls. I will relay that to the JCP staff and we'll know how much to spend in gift cards when I go to purchase them on that Friday. That pretty much sums it up. We are hoping for some more donations the day of the event. I'm sure we won't have quite the turn out as usual as some members may shy away from the group environment and store setting. Everyone will wear a mask and Penney's does a good job of wiping down. Volunteers can also wear cloves if they wish. Hope this all makes sense in having the event move forward. If there are any changes that you would like to see happen, please let George or m know. Thank you. Vivat Jesus Gary Ryan

Yes Virginia. There Will Be A Knights’ Kids Event This Year, But Not Like Any Other...

Message sent to Mike Moore I received the message below from Maggie's Place. We WILL NOT be hosting a Christmas Brunch for them this year. We may have an opportunity to host a brunch or sim-ilar event next spring - either in February as Leslie suggests or later (Easter or ?). Alternative to a meal, maybe we provide some equipment (picnic tables, outdoor storage shed, playground equipment, etc.) - a couple of years ago, we participated in a "work party" where CC Knights painted their picnic tables, assem-bled a work shed, did some tree/bush clean-up. Hello Mike, I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we have just this week finalized our Christmas plans for this year. Unfortunately, we will not be having a Christmas party this year due to COVID. We are doing a gift distribution, but the moms are com-ing in shifts and without children being involved. We do appreciate your offer of doing a breakfast or brunch for our moms and we are hoping to still be able to work with you next year. Hopeful-ly, we will be back to somewhat normal early in the year and would love to do a brunch or something to that effect for Valentine's Day. Let me know what you think. Thank you and thank you to the Corpus Christi Knights of Columbus! -- Leslie Croy Development Assistant

The Diocese of Phoenix is committed to protecting all children and youth by offering, at all Diocesan parishes, several abuse prevention educational sessions. The Diocesan Policy and Procedure for the Protection of Minors requires all clergy, em-ployees, volunteers that directly serve minors, and minors to attend training on an annual basis. All other volunteers in the parish must attend Safe En-vironment training every other year. In Catholic ed-ucation grades Pre-k through high school, every student every year participates in a Safe Environment program. In the Diocese of Phoenix all adult volunteers must complete Called to Protect for Ministries as a foun-dation course for Safe Environment. Called to Pro-tect for Ministries is a 3 hour program which will teach steps that can be taken to prevent child sex-ual abuse and as a component of the training eve-ryone is required to complete a volunteer applica-tion and Code of Ethics.

A 45 minute renewal Training is offered for all sub-sequent years. This training is offered through in-class sessions at the parish or through computer "online" training. Go to phoenix.cmgconnect.org/ to learn more about the Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment Training, to register for a training class, or to com-plete the online training.

The Diocese of Phoenix continues to moni-tor the information from the Governor’s Of-fice, Arizona health officials, and the Federal Government. We are moving toward the goal of full restoration of parish life with prudence.

Stay connected with your parish through social media and Flocknote, and please continue to check in with your pastor and your fellow churchgoers to see how they are doing.

Join us in praying for our first responders, healthcare professionals, elected officials, and all those who are working tirelessly to serve us during this crisis

Be Healthy – Be Smart – Be Holy

Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Diocese of Phoenix, pray for us.

Jesus, we trust in You.

In A Word...

Knights’ Knotes Volume 13 No. 5 November, 2020 Page 6

Thankful… Now there's a word. Maybe perfect for the month of November and even more so as we head towards the Advent and Christmas seasons. The question may arise...What am I thankful for? Many of us might have an immediate answer and that’s a good thing. Some of us may need to think a bit and that’s not a bad thing, either. So think again this Thanksgiving what it is that you might be truly thankful for. Speaking personally, I like many of you am thankful for the family that God has blessed me with. A loving and car-ing spouse and partner in our life together, children who have become amazing adults and grandchildren that are eve-ry bit more than I could have asked and prayed for. I am thankful that I have never gone a day in my entire life where there was not food on the table and a roof over my head. I suspect that some of us may not have been as fortunate at times and I pray that you never see those times again. I am thankful that I even at my age, I have a steady job and although business is off due to the current pandemic, my company is still running. Again, not everyone I know can say that. I am thankful for the friends I have made during my lifetime here in Arizona and throughout the U.S.A. I am thankful to have my Brother Knights at my side whenever needed. You guys are outstanding! I am thankful that I have experienced so many wonderful things in life. All the adventures, vacations, all the good. I am thankful that I have been able to get through all the times when things were not so wonderful (and there were quite a few). Truly with God’s help I have survived and become stronger. I am thankful that every day of my life I get to experience something I truly enjoy whether it is music, sports or just a casual conversation with my wife who is still my best friend and has been for almost 50 years. I am thankful that I live in a country where I can vote for people who will be our leaders in all branches of govern-ment. I am also thankful that I can choose not to vote if I do not want to. I am so thankful that I can now physically participate in the Mass. The online presence is good and serves us well, but let’s face it, there’s nothing like being there. I am thankful for my health. Lost two friends, a client and a cousin to COVID19 so far this year. My boss even tested positive (we haven’t physically been together in the same room since late February). Gotta love Zoom, Webex, Lifesize and any other virtual meeting venues that have kept us in contact. There are more things in my life that I can be thankful for I am sure. Every one of us can easily come up with a list of what to give thanks for. There is a reason we set the last Thursday in November aside to thankfully pray to God for all that he has given to us. You don’t necessarily need to have a good harvest to say “Thank you” to God. But, if you look at everyday as being a “good harvest” isn’t that reason enough? Here’s hoping and praying that all of your harvests be good. God Bless, Happy Thanksgiving and Vivat Jesus! Jul

A Viewpoint =========== Observations from my “front porch”

=========== By Jim McGrath

It is unfortunate to begin another column by extending heartfelt condolences to the families of Sir Claude Adams and Sir Matt Fazio. Both were fine men who led lives focused on the welfare of their fellow men. May they enjoy the fruits of their labors at the banquet of our Lord!

After a record-breaking heat-related summer with all the obnoxious political ads on TV, I thought it was time to try something different. A little corn-ball quiz and humor could be the proper remedy.

Just curious: has anyone ever seen Vanna White take more than ten steps (paces)? That's the approximate length of the message board where she turns the letters. Inquiring minds want to know why the Notre Dame football team's football uniforms are blue and gold? Wouldn't Kelly green be more appropriate? I know about the helmets, but what about the jerseys and pants? Has anyone ever seen a cross walk? or a board walk? Have you met Jack Knife or Jack Frost? Honestly, has anyone ever caught an airplane? Or have you seen a horse fly? How many of you have a dining room? Does it eat much? Years ago, there was a story about three young Irishmen, walking down a street in Dublin who disappeared when they turned into a pub. Has anyone seen them since? Have you ever seen a belt buckle? or a shoe shine? If you own a shot gun, what good is it? Have you ever seen a baseball bat? Have you ever witnessed a line drive? Am I the only one so tired of the political TV ads that I am looking forward to personal hygiene product ads returning – despite how awful they can be?

Seriously, when you read this, we may not know who was elected president due to a large number of mail-in ballots that await counting. Whoever wins will need all the heavenly help he can get, so pray daily for him. The job of healing our divisive country will be as great as the task that lay before Abraham Lincoln. Your Catholic conscience may not allow you to like him or his policies, but try to be a faithful patriotic citizen. May God, in His Goodness, bless us and keep us safe - and free!

Do not be too quick to judge until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes There has been a great deal of media coverage about police-related shootings. Keep in mind that almost every

news story carries varying degrees of misinformation. Journalists are human and make mistakes. Unless you have had a gun pointed at you – or worse – fired at you, you have no idea how you would react.

It’s easy to be a “Monday Morning Quarterback” from the safety of your couch, but you have no idea what you would do. I challenge everyone who thinks otherwise to get into a fracas with an organized gang or unruly mob and try to restore order. Rational thoughts are not logical d’joir.

Adrenaline will surge through your veins like a high-speed train on steroids. I can guarantee the primary emotion of self-preservation will override rational thinking and the most structured training. You will react emotionally. You will not logically act because you cannot reason in nanoseconds with people doing outra-geous things and/or refusing to obey lawful commands.

In the meantime, pray for peace and tranquility, safety, and security. Pray for God’s continued blessings upon all of us

Father Rey has graciously granted the Knights permission to re-start our weekly column in the Sunday Bulletin. Our mis-sion is to publish news articles of general interest to all parishioners, not items that appeal only to Brother Knights and their families. Several easy examples include events we already publish like Blood Drives, Pancake Breakfasts, and Texas Hold ‘em. We want KNIGHTLY NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS that stimulate interest in parish activities and lead to greater participation. Kindly provide me the essential or necessary information as early as possible to polish it for publication. Please send your ideas and suggestions to [email protected]. Thank you.

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas,

We fly to you today as your beloved children.

We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,

and gain for our nation and world,

and for all our families and loved ones,

the protection of your holy angels,

that we may be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted,

we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and

deliverance.

Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and

fearful,

wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing,

teach all of us in the Church to love one another and

to be patient and kind.

Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and

to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,

knowing that you truly are our compassionate

Mother,

health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,

keep us in the embrace of your arms,

help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

Golf Tournament Final totals Our Annual Joe Hasulak Golf Tournament was a huge success this year. Golf Tournament Chairman and Dep-uty Grand Knight Mike Moore reports that the tourna-ment raised a gross amount of nearly $22,000.00. There were a total of 150 golfers registered. Twenty-four of our sponsors contributed a total of $11,000.00. This is an outstanding display of effort, drive and team work. Great job by all, but special thanks to Chairman Mike Moore and Brother Joe McDermott who secured major sponsors and a car from San tan Ford.

Votes Are In Bill Steinkemper Wins Congratulations to Bill Steinkemper who is taking on the role of Trustee third year. Bill is scheduled to serve three terms. Thank you, ,Bill. We all know you’re the right guy in that chair.

September Knight of the Month Joe McDermott At our September Council meeting, Deputy Grand Knight named Joe McDermott the Knight of the Month for Septem-ber Joe’s involvement in the golf tournament contributed largely to its overall success, Thank you, Joe. Nice to have you back among us.

It’s a Drive-by Birthday! Happy Birthday to Richard Armanini. A very creative way for all of us to wish Richard a Happy Birthday was planned by Richard’s daughter Marsha. In a world of social distancing and restrictions on social gatherings, this made perfect sense. Happy Birthday, Richard!

Newsletter Distribution list for 2020-2021 When we mailed newsletter to everyone, the whole family could read the content of the Knights Newsletters. Now that we are emailing the newsletter only the Brother Knight receives a copy. If anyone else would like a copy of the newslet-ter send an email to [email protected] either from the person or the Knight giving the email of everyone that want added to the distribution. Due to a Microsoft change the old distribution list was lost so we need to rebuild the list with your help. The family is

important, so it help if they know what the Knights are doing for the month.
