neptune by sims hilditCh
Neptune by Sims Hilditch specialises in making kitchen and home design more accessible by using the Neptune product collection.
about neptune by sims hilditCh
The story of Neptune by Sims Hilditch is about two companies that have
put their heads together to create an exciting new venture offering
outstanding value.
In 1996, Giles Redman and John Sims Hilditch founded Neptune with the
mission to create a collection of quality furniture for the home and garden.
Around the same time Emma Sims Hilditch – John’s wife – embarked on
a path which led her to set up Sims Hilditch; a Cotswold-based interior
design studio, which creates bespoke interiors for luxury residential and
commercial properties.
Over the years both companies have grown to be leaders in their respective
fields, with John and Giles naturally drawing on Emma’s design expertise to
develop the fabulous Neptune look.
When Emma realised there was a growing demand to make both kitchen
and interior design more accessible to a wider market, it made perfect
sense to partner with Neptune.
Thus Neptune by Sims Hilditch was founded: a new and exciting entity
consisting of a handpicked team of first-rate kitchen and home designers
who specialise in integrating Neptune product into the home.
Neptune by Sims Hilditch is a marriage of design and craftsmanship
creating spaces that genuinely enhance quality of life.

Why We love neptune
We love that Neptune does not compromise on the product in any way:
every visible or invisible design feature is a point of great pride. The quality
of engineering is a result of nearly 20 years spent mastering the processes
involved to create furniture of a superior standard.
Neptune takes great care to design furniture that is not only functional and
beautiful, but also a pleasure to use. The emphasis is on traditional styles
with a contemporary twist and innovation enhanced by the delicate touch
of a skilled craftsman. Only the finest grade of materials are ever used –
MDF is never an option!
Neptune cabinets offer much more than just a pretty face. Open a cabinet
door and you will see impeccable attention to detail is paid to every inch.
Each cabinet is crafted carefully by hand using traditional mortise and
tenon joints and physically locked with a dowel. The drawers consist of
dovetail jointing and can carry a massive 30kgs.
The focus on durability is one of the cornerstones of Neptune design.
During the early days of testing, the design team were so confident in
the strength of their joinery that they decided to throw a cabinet out a
first floor window to test its strength – three times. They didn’t break!
It sounds a bit rock-star, and clearly not something we’d recommend
when your cabinets arrive, but it proved that the quality of materials and
craftsmanship were paramount.
Lastly, the Neptune collection offers an incredible range of choice. With a
carefully considered palette of paint colours, finishes, sizes, handles and
hinges to choose from, you can tailor Neptune’s elegant and authentic
furniture to your home. Combine this with the hidden extras such as soft-
close drawer runners and you have beautiful, clever pieces for your home
that will last a lifetime.

our kitChens
The following projects illustrate how our kitchens are brought to life with every detail designed to uniquely respond to our clients’ lifestyles.
andover hall
For our clients at Andover Hall, the brief hinged around one important
point: they longed for a real heart of the home – the kind of place that
would be the ultimate hub of family interaction and entertainment.
To achieve this, our design team focused on creating an open-plan kitchen-
dining area by combining a traditional Chichester kitchen with Harrogate
dining table and chairs. A pared-back colour scheme makes the most of the
natural light, while the generous proportions of the room are accentuated
by wide oak floorboards and a timber ceiling. The result is a spacious yet
intimate focal point for family life.

Inspiration comes in many guises. For our clients who had just bought
an old brewery, the catalyst for their kitchen design was a much-loved
artwork, which set the tone for an airy, light-filled space.
The challenge in achieving this vision was integrating the existing brewery
space with a new dining room extension. Classic Chichester cabinetry
gives a nod to the building’s heritage while the contemporary open-
plan configuration is seamlessly integrated with a soft colour palette and
natural stone flooring throughout.

For many of our clients, it is imperative that fitted furniture responds to
authentic architectural details. This was certainly the case for the new
owners of this Grade II listed property dating back to the 13th century.
The house was something of an historical jigsaw puzzle with Norman and
Georgian architecture pieced together with wooden beams, stone walls,
ancient flagstone floors, large fireplaces and detailed wooden panelling.
The brief was to create a modern kitchen and eating environment but
retain the original features. To achieve this, we reconfigured the layout
of the ground floor and transformed the old drawing room into a large
open-plan kitchen-dining room. With quirks, nooks and crannies galore,
our team designed bespoke fitted cabinets to ensure the kitchen made the
most of the available space.

Chilterns family kitChen
Isn’t it wonderful when you can have the best of both worlds? We think
so, which is why we design kitchens using traditional techniques while also
incorporating the latest appliances.
Nowhere was this approach more apt than for our clients in the Chilterns,
who were seeking a kitchen that would be the ultimate entertainment
hub. We began with a show-stopping Suffolk island and added integrated
appliances, solid oak bar stools and intelligent lighting to an ergonomic
layout that puts every gadget within arm’s reach.

Crafted from birch wood, the Chichester is a sophisticated take on a
classic English style. Its distinctive character comes from the traditional
cabinet beading, elegant cornice and open skirting while the wide range
of freestanding furniture and wall cabinets are all cleverly designed for
contemporary lifestyle requirements. With the option to customise the
hand painted finish to any colour of your choosing and the flexibility to
add any style of handle or hinge, the Chichester is our most versatile and
affordable kitchen.
– 45 –
suffolk
Drawing on traditional East Anglian carpentry techniques, the Suffolk
kitchen is a nod to the classic Shaker look of pared-back simplicity. Suffolk
kitchens are crafted from a stylish combination of birch for the frames
and carved oak for the shelves. It features low kickboards, generous
proportions, hand painted finishes that are completely customisable and
the widest choice of base cabinet designs. With little extras like velvet
lined cutlery drawers and soft closing doors as standard, it is no wonder
the Suffolk is one of our most popular kitchens.
– 46 –
henley
Crafted entirely from oak, the Henley is the most luxurious of all. With its
signature curved cabinets and authentic detailing, the Henley seamlessly
marries a traditional look with the latest developments in kitchen design.
Delightful extras include hidden drawers, integral oak towel rails and built-
in chopping blocks and trays. A unique range of antique brass fittings and
fixtures perfectly complements the elegant design to create a beautifully
understated yet welcoming kitchen.
– 47 –
limehouse
Drawing on the industrial soul of the London docklands, Limehouse is our
latest kitchen. This is a sophisticated, contemporary kitchen featuring
a streamlined style and strong architectural shapes yet one which still
retains traditional values through authentic craftsmanship and use of
natural materials. The hand painted finish contrasts with polished stainless
steel and chalked oak work surfaces while the freestanding cabinets allow
for great versatility of design to suit any space.
