Matthews has no favorite YouTubers but does enjoy watch-

ing Jstu Studios. His favorite video is Eating Loudly in the Library

which coincidentally was composed by Jstu Studios.

On his own channel, Cole's favorite video is, “The one with

the most likes or views.” A quick Google search revealed that Cole

also has a second channel called Glitched Mayhem 2, with over 1,800

subscribers and over 10,000 views. A quick check of his first site re-

veals his YouTube Channel is sitting at close to 2.2 million views,

with the most popular video (Solo Unlimited Money Glitch) raking in

Cole Matthews is Kingfisher High School's own online ce-

lebrity. Go check out his YouTube channel, Glitched Mayhem, and

subscribe to his channel. If the hits keep coming and his channel gains

followers the way it has been, he’ll be at 50,000 before Spring Break.

Cole also has a Twitter account, @GLITCHEDMAYHEM,

so go and give him a follow. He would really appreciate it.

Senior Profile: Hayden Turner By Teresa Rangel/ls

January 22, 1997 a free-lance artist, Hayden Cole Turner, was born to parents Stacy Turner and Mike Ritz “Crackers” (*eyebrow

wiggle*) in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

Scooter, as his primary acquaintances might call him, is an active member of Band, Vocal, Speech, Debate, Drama, and The Span-

ish Club. The sport he plays is Marching Band. (Yes people IT IS A SPORT!) The grammatically eloquent whiz of the school, Mrs. Harris,

is Scooter’s favorite scholar at KHS.

Scooter’s favorite subjects are Band and Choir (You just can tell his going to be a successful entertainer someday!). His plans for

college are to go to OU in Norman and Major in Music Education (Obviously *eye roll* :P). It is quite expected from this social ball of joy

and musician to say that in the future he sees himself as a music teacher here

in K-town, carrying down the torch of his predecessors.

If you ever run into Hayden (or if you’re really close friends with

him) you know you can catch the bro chilling on the couch with his Nintendo

DS playing Pokémon “Catching them all!” or showing off his extremely awe-

somely, ostentatious, legendary collection of Pokémon or Yugi-Oh! cards that

is ENDLESS.

You may catch this dude cruising down the road in his 1999 silver

Saturn, jamming to KJ 103 (AKA 102.7 FM). The music he is MAJORLY

enthusiastic about is, “ALL FLAVORS AND TYPES!” Rather Be by Clean

Bandit Ft. Jess Glynne is his ideal song. K-town’s very own high school band

is his favorite. “Dee-Dee!” as quoted verbatim from Mrs. Torres.

In his free, outside-of-school time Hayden likes to collect stuff and

shopping at Vintage Stock! Seriously though who isn’t a hipster now-a-days?

All State Choir 2016 and Choir King for all four years are his notable all time

achievements of his high school career.

RANDOM FACT! Hayden’s hair isn’t red; it’s more of a strawberry blondish

color. His favorite TV show is Dexter. He’s best friends with Darius “Rage”

Redus (Majestic name bruh). Favorite hue is Cobalt Blue and his favorite

nom-noms for his tom-tom is Spaghetti O’s and Dots candy. His current em-

ployment is Braums.

Now freshie if you want to be just like Hayden-senpai take to his

advice and “Don’t procrastinate!” It’s not cool for your grades, them colleges

will look on your score and judge you like man vs. society. Honestly who’ll

miss High school after they graduate? He will not definitely miss the kids! His

last fellow words to senior are “Adios Muchachos!”

“Geronimo!”- Hayden Turner

Great Minds of

Filmmaking By: Martin Padilla/kk

With his start in music videos to

directing one of the best thrillers of

the last decade, being nominated

over 10 times for best director we

have one of the best minds in film-

making, David Fincher. In 1992 we

were introduced to his directing in

films with the third installment in the

Alien franchise. It made $19 million

on its opening weekend, that’s more

than the first two made their open-

ing weekend combined.

The years following he made a

number of films that are now recog-

nized in Hollywood as huge thrillers

that will never go away. Thrillers

like Fight Club, and psychological

thrillers like Seven that shocked au-

diences and made an impact in the

film industry.

In 2007 one of his biggest films

was released telling the story of the

Zodiac killer, Zodiac. It received

tons of praise from critics worldwide

and made it to the top of the box

office opening weekend. With a run

time of almost 3 hours this is a mov-

ie that must be watched.

It is available to watch on Net-

flix, and Amazon Video. A year

later his film The Curious Case of

Benjamin Button was released, a

movie based on the Novel by F.

Scott Fitzgerald, another project

featuring Brad Pitt who was also in

one his earliest films Seven. The film

features a story about a man who

ages backwards with a great cast,

amazing story, and a powerful end-

ing.

In 2010 Fincher’s most awarded

movie The Social Network hits thea-

ters, starring Jesse Eisenberg telling

the story of how Facebook got start-

ed and his issues with lawyers and

lawsuits. 2 years later a remake of

the Swedish version of The Girl with

the Dragon Tattoo was released, it

didn’t do very well in American

theaters but is still one of his best

films in my opinion.

In 2014, a film adaption of the

novel by Gillian Flynn was released,

Gone Girl.

Staying at the top of box office

for a number of weeks and earning a

box office of over three hundred

million dollars this film shocked

audiences everywhere. Ben Affleck

and Rosamund Pike deliver a strong

performance on screen with a huge

ending. The film started filming a

year before before the film was re-

leased.

He started working on this pro-

ject following the release of The Girl

with the Dragon Tattoo. My favorite

from this director is Fight Club but I

highly recommend you watch any of

his numerous films.

FCCLA Movie Night Opinion by: Lisa Baxter/ls

(CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

On January 25, 2016 I went to the FCCLA movie

night to see The Boy. It was an hour and 38 minutes. The

movie overall was good, it had a few good scares throughout

it and had a shocking ending.

The storyline says, “A young American named

Greta takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year old boy in a remote

English village. To her surprise, Greta learns that the child of

her new employers is a life size doll.

They care for the doll as if it was human, which

helps the couple to cope with the death of their own son from

20 years earlier. When Greta violates a list of strict rules, a

series of disturbing and inexplicable events bring her worst

fears to life, leading her to believe that the doll is alive.” The

genre of the movie is Thriller/Horror.

I for one though did love the movie and was so sad

when the doll had its head broken. It was creepy and makes

me hate dolls more than I already do. I still thought the doll

looked cute and creepy at the same time, so when Brahms

kills Cole I was actually really happy!

A Hero’s Journey Opinion by: Alma Atondo/ls

This hero’s journey is about my

dad. My dad lived in Mexico, where he met

my mother. Victor was a teacher in Mexico.

My parents got married and they

had my brother. The economy in Mexico is

very tough. It is hard to get money in a de-

cent way. Working as a teacher, for my dad,

was not enough and he needed more money.

It just was not enough to support my mom,

brother, and I.

As soon as I was born, my dad had

less and less money. My aunt found out I was

born and she noticed that my parents did not

have the money to support us decently. My

aunt gave my Dad a call. She talked to him

over the phone and said that he could proba-

bly get more money over here in the United

States. She told him he could come down to

Oklahoma where she was living.

My dad took the decision. It was a

tough one, because that meant either we all

went at the same time with him or he would

go and check it out. It was hard for my dad to

just leave us like that, he was scared of leav-

ing us alone, but he knew that my mom’s

family would take care of us while he was

gone. My dad said he was only going to be

gone for a few months.

He ended up finding a good job

down here and ended up staying longer than

he had said he would. My mom decided that

we should come down to him, with my aunt.

She could not stand living in Mexico without

my dad. We went to the United States a year

later than him. We lived with my aunt in

Dover, Oklahoma, for a year and a half.

My dad did not like that we had to

live with my aunt. We had to get a place of

our own. My dad had to work hard every

day and night. He probably even worked

almost every single day. From five in the

morning to late at night (around midnight,

maybe?)

I was young, so I did not really

notice the effort he made for us because of

me being so young. Now I honestly realized

he could of died or had an accident in work-

ing in the oil field, especially if he works up

at the top of the rig machine.

He went to jail two years later. He

got pulled over and went to jail in the city for

no license. We did not know how to get him

out of there. My mom was really scared.

Eventually, a day or two later, my aunt’s

husband got him out with some help.

My mom was so glad. My dad then

came back and started working again. He did

not work as much just to appreciate his time

with my brother, mother, and I. He realized

he did not need to buy anything material wise

to make us happy and that changed him en-

tirely.

Prom Opinion by: Lisa Baxter/ss

Prom is just around the corner so any-

body who needs a date better ask, get your

tux’s and dresses, plan how you’re going to

get to prom, and what you want to do when

it ends.

The theme of this years Prom is Mid-

summer Night’s Dream. The juniors are

planning what they need to do. Usually it’s

only a junior and senior prom and if you’re

not either the only other way is to be asked

by a junior or senior who is going to prom

or be able to be a sophomore server. Other

than that you can’t go to prom.

I am kind of excited to go. I am per-

fectly fine going by myself, because of the

following: I won’t have to pick anybody up,

I won’t have to pay for anybody, and I

won’t have to dance with anybody!

I already have my dress and what I plan

on doing so I am set to go. All we have to

do now is finish planning, decorate, and

have prom! There is one more thing that

you should know, and that is be safe be-

cause you don’t know what could happen at

prom., before, during and after.

Stinger Rides By: Stinger Staff

This week in Stinger Rides, the 1989 Chevrolet

C1500 pickup belonging to sophomore Cody Williams is

being featured. The maroon and primer Stepside has been

in William’s family for 9 years, although Cody made

claim to the truck the day they brought it home.

The bowtie shortbed runs a stock Vortec-head

350 c.i. small block Chevy powerplant, backed up by a

700R4 HD overdrive tranny and a 10-bolt one-legged rear

end.

The little pickup has gone through 3 motors and

4 transmissions in the 9 years that Cody’s family has been

thrashing on it, all small blocks with OD trans. Future

plans for the exterior of the pickup include finishing out

the front end with paint and detailing.

Two years ago the brakes failed and it ended up

hitting the rear of a wrecker. Very convenient since the

pickup was disabled after the wreck and they needed it

towed home.

Power hits the pavement via a set of matching

American Racing 15” rims with some beefy 50 series

Hankook meats on the rear. The interior has some added

value features including a trick header panel/headliner

containing multiple speakers, a retro 70’s era Hang Tentm

footsie gas pedal, a woofer box that rides shotgun on the

bench seat, and a Jeg’s monster tach mounted high on the

steering column complete with shift light.

Not satisfied with the 190-230 horses from the

stock powerplant, Cody is eyeing a 383 stroker motor

(being built by local dirt track racer Ronnie Raymer) to

drop in the engine bay in the near future. With 400+ hors-

es and monster torque at his disposal, Cody plans to back

it all up with a shift kit for the 700R4 along with a Posi-

tractiontm centersection with 3:73 ring and pinion gears

out back. Plenty of go for the 1989 pick ‘em up truck.

Messi's Biggest Fan By: Andrea Jimenez/ss

Everybody knows Lionel Messi. Messi is considered

one of the time's greatest soccer "futbol" players. He plays for

the FC Barcelona and Argentina national football team. Not

to mention his salary is about 26.5 million euros per year.

It's obvious why he has so many loyal and enthusi-

astic fans. However, there is one special five-year old fan that

has captivated the world's heart. I'm talking about young Mur-

taza Ahmadi from Afghanistan. Murtaza Ahmadi is a five-

year old Messi fan whose picture went world wide on the

web.

The picture shows young Murtaza Ahmadi in a stripped plastic bag with

Messi's name and number (#10) scribbled in blue ink. His father, Arif Ahmadi, says

that Murtaza would wake up crying saying that he wanted to meet Messi.

He later asked his father for a Messi jersey which was impossible for his fa-

ther. "I told him that we were living in a poor village far from the city and it was im-

possible for me to get him the shirt," says Ahmadi. Heartbroken, Arif and Murtaza's

brother, Hamayon, made him a Messi jersey out of a plastic bag.

This "jersey" meant the world to Murtaza. Now Murtaza wishes more than

anything to meet his idol, Lionel Messi. Last week, a fan account of Messi's tweeted

that they had received a DM from Leo's team that says they want to know who the kid

is so they can arrange something for him. T

he exact tweet reads, "We got a DM from Leo's team. They want to know

who this kid is so that Leo can arrange something for him. RT & spread." The accounts

name is Leo Messi (@messi10stats) and we should all re-tweet this and help Murtaza

meet Messi.

Lego Marvel Avengers:

Game Review By Nick Bradford/kk

Lego Marvel Avengers came out January 26 and already I am liking it. In

the game players go through the past Marvel movies, such as Ironman 3, Captain

America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor :The Dark

World, The Avengers, and The Avengers Rise of Ultron.

You can play as a lot of different Marvel cast members such as The Hulk,

Ironman, Spider-man, Captain America, Quicksilver, Black Widow, Black Panther,

Hawkeye, Thor, War Machine, and a lot more people as you go through different cit-

ies and locations. New York, North Africa, Barton Farm, Asgaard, Shield HQ Base

and Malibu. The actors and actresses from the movies provide the voices of the cast.

But there is a bad thing about this game. The plot is mixed up and out of

order and the players can get easily confused when you play. The co-op on some lev-

els is bad when often you have to wait until the other player is done or drop out. The

levels are a little hard (be warned not to play with a 5-year old that will fight with you

about the game).

The game has funny team finishes from the movie as well. However, this

game gets a little boring after a while, although it is fun destroying stuff as the Hulk,

flying around as Ironman and swinging through the streets as Spider-man.

The first add-on is a couple of Ironman suits but if you are like me I would

just buy the season pass for the game instead of buying the add-ons later because this

game can get a lot of more cast than the 200+ it already has and they might be better.

Before you buy this game I would watch some game film on it and see if you like it.

Better yet, get it from Red Box.

Weekend Plans Opinion by: Janelle Hawk/ss

This weekend I have a peyote ceremony

to go to. This will be my first time ever going. My

mom explained to me what it was like and what to

do. I’m kind of nervous because I’ve never done

peyote. She said it makes you see “the way.”

My friend’s grandma found out she had

cancer last week. So we’re all going to go in and

pray for her all night. We will stay up until ten or

the afternoon. Then we will send people in with

the food and water and before we eat we’ll bless it

Then, we will get a small bowl and feed

the spirits. All through the night spirits surround us

with there strength to make sure everything will be

alright. They run off the bad ones and bring the

good ones.

My mom said that sometimes she can

here people laughing and talking outside the tee-

pee. She said the last time she went in she could

here some lady laughing.

It’s kind of scary to know that, because

you don’t know if it’s good or bad, but they say to

never worry about that. Just listen and sing along

with the music.

The music is beautiful all through the

night. We sing 16 songs until the morning, and

then you go outside and sing to the morning star

until it rises completely. We come back in and

drink some more peyote. The person that is sick is

supposed to eat this coal and as we sing they throw

it up to get the sickness out of them. Hopefully, I

won’t mess up. That’s one thing I’m scared of

doing.

Advisor’s Note -Want to know more?

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary

online peyote has two definitions as follows:

1)a small, low spineless cactus of the south-

west United States and Mexico having round-

ed stems covered with jointless tubercles—

also called mescal.

2)A hallucinogenic drug containing mescaline

that is derived from peyote buttons and used

especially in the religious ceremonies of some

American Indian peoples.

Further research reveals the following:

“Although ceremonial use of peyote was

also illegal at one time, the United States

now exempts this type of peyote use as le-

gal. However, legal peyote use is restricted

to the Native American Church.”

Novelas Opinion by: Andrea Jimenez/ss

Ahh... novelas. La mejor forma para

relajarse. Para ser especifca, telenovelas. Las

telenovelas son series de ficcion que suelen

pertenecer al genero romantico. En otras

ocasiones, tambien pueden ser mas de accion

que de romance. Telemundo es uno de los

mejores canales de telenovelas. A mi me gustan

What is Social Awk-

wardness? Opinion: By Robert Haynes

We’ve all occasionally said something

really stupid, which is pretty much every thing, I say

but that’s beside the point. Social awkwardness is

defined by a lack of social awareness and social

nervousness so basically getting super nervous in

every conversation and not being able to understand

social cues is a sign that you have social awkward-

ness.

But don’t worry there are ways to remedy

these symptoms. First, find out why you’re nervous

in conversations and also socialize more. Yes I’m

telling to do the thing you’re awkward at. Haven’t

you ever heard of getting rid of you’re fears is to

confront them.

So by socializing more you will be able to

understand how people feel when you say something

or how they’ll feel when you act in a certain manner.

Get a grip if people are going to be mad at you or

make fun of you for saying something. They are not

worth being around, trust me. Whatever you do, do

not and I repeat do not try to act cool. It will back-

fire tremendously since in your head you’ll be acting

cool but to everyone else you’ll just be acting awk-

ward.

So you should just go with the flow and act

natural Trust me, you’ll be way cooler. Acting cool

is bad enough, but worrying about who’s cool and

who isn’t is just as bad.

One more thing, always remember just be

yourself and you’ll do just fine.

The Kingfisher Board of Education met in regular session on

Monday, February 18, 2016 at 7PM with all members present. Pres-

ident Mike Copeland called the meeting to order and after hearing

from Superintendent of Schools Jason Sternberger concerning up-

coming school activities, the Board approved previous minutes.

After a short discussion over current encumbrances (bills) the

Board approved all accounts and turned to a presentation from the

district’s financial auditing firm “Britton, Kuykendall and Miller,

CPAs” represented by Mr. Kuykendall. Handing each Board mem-

ber a copy of the report, Mr. Kuykendall reported the audit success-

ful finding only a few, minor problems that can be worked on. Over

all, he said, “…the school is in excellent financial shape.” He did

mention a decline in revenue and the excellent efforts to reduce

spending to compensate. He added the “internal controls” for

spending are excellent and the district is in compliance with all fed-

eral programs. He also commented with some shock and pleasure

that the district’s activity fund (money raised from the community to

support programs) exceeded $795,000 in the previous school year.

The Board approved and signed the report.

The Board approved a number of out-of-state trips for the high

school FFA program and signed a continuing agreement with Amer-

icorps to keep 6 full and part time workers. They also approved

keeping ADPC as the financial accounting firm for the district.

The Board approved a fund raiser for the Native American Club

and the district calendar for 2016-2017 which concluded the first

semester on Dec. 21 and allows for all Fridays off in May when

activities are peaking. A faculty committee had recommended three

possible choices and the teachers had voted overwhelmingly for

“Calendar Gold.”

The Board agreed to ask the State Department of Education for

the usual waiver that permits the district to host two night Parent

Teacher Conferences and then not have school on the following

Friday. This is something the district has done for many years.

The Board accepted the resignation of a paraprofessional helping

with special education at the Gilmour School and hired a replace-

ment.

Mr. Sternberger told the Board of various meetings and encour-

aged their attendance. He also reported the Multi-Purpose Building

at the school is entering its final construction stage with completion

likely in two to three months and “certainly by August!” He also

said steel should be going up on the new Bus Barn located just

northeast of the round top building where the activity buses are

housed.

After a 20 minute executive session, the Board returned to re-

employ all building principals and the Special Education Director.

They also discussed and rejected a proposal to purchase property at

1499 S. 13th Street saying with the current downturn in state financ-

es, the district just couldn’t afford to purchase the property.

With no further business, the Board adjourned at 801PM.
