Display Cases with Varying Densities

The shelving and display cases for this store were inspired by the progressive change that occurs when a chameleon changes color. The display booths vary in density consequently drawing people further in to the store similar to how a chameleon’s cells release pigment gradually in a chain reaction.

In this group project, we used a shipping container to create an exhibit to showcase the benefits of interior design. The concept embraces sustainability, universal design and mobility to showcase a healthy working environment. The varying density of the trellis protects privacy and draws visitors deeper into the space.

Students no longer need to be taught information, with sites like Google, students can quickly and easily access any information that they may ever need. Instead, students need to be taught how to creatively solve problems.

This new student center will embrace a constructivist pedagogy to make classrooms more supportive for experiential learning. The collaborative spaces are inspired by the integrated and supportive nature of co-working offices. Co-working environments have been proven to inspire people of different disciplines and cultures to solve complex issues and dream up thoughtful solutions. They are casual spaces where freelancers and small businesses can purchase membership in order to use the space as their office.

The co-working spaces are also approachable spaces, where self-expression is encouraged and highly valued. This allows the presentation of preliminary ideas without fear of judgement, resulting in a larger base of more creative ideas.

For this student center design, each student was able to choose a word to use as inspiration for the design. I chose “pursuit” because I believe that it characterizes student careers in higher education.

At times it can feel as though you are very close to achieving an aspiration, however at other times the goal can seem very distant. The ceiling structure also serves to draw students into the space towards the bright red wall or stairway, thus reinforcing a feeling of pursuit. Section

This project celebrates key elements of typography and the its fundamental principles. Typography is a cutting-edge design medium that has been pushed to new limits in recent years. Despite recent experimentation, many of its fundamental principles remain intact including the commonly used underlying grid system used in posters, magazines and typographic compositions.

T H E S I SCareful application of global design is beneficial and works in tandem with our time’s social internationalism. Designers and architects need to balance a sense of cultural anchoring and international accessibility to create a design that well suits occupants in this day and age. I want to craft a space that is accessible, meaningful and relevant to inhabitants of diverse cultural backgrounds and bring together new microcosmic communities of short term occupants with different perspectives.

The goal of this project was to design a work that speaks out on an issue involving politics and technology. I chose to represent how the United States is being increasingly characterized by belligerent party disputes, made public and readily available through mass media. The red text represents direct quotes from prominent Republicans denouncing Democrats in the typeface of their campaign posters; the blue text is from the perspective of prominent Democrats. The cream text portrays the media’s frequent interjections. This vitriol has subtly become an issue that is at the core of American society.

This image poses commentary on today’s initaitives to build more sustainable buildings. Despite the fact that materials are arguably becoming more complex and distanced from nature, architects are beginning to design buildings as systems that are capable of being a part of the environment, participating in the world’s natural cycles.

T Y P O -G R A P H YThis typography project involved choosing words and trying to portray the words through typeface selection and composition. I chose "addition" and "slide" as the words I wanted to depict and developed iterations to convey the meaning of the words.
