Dr. Johnson’s Exotic Candy Selection Opinion by: Janelle Hawk/ls

Everyday, well, almost every week Dr. Johnson has candy sitting out in his class. For what reason? I do not know. We usually

take it as a gift. Well, at least I do. It is all different kinds and flavors of the candy. There is sometimes peppermints, coffee candy, and

even candy from other countries. Some people like it and some do not. I like some of it, but some of the candies are not what I like to eat.

We do not have to eat it. It is just put out there for anybody that pleases to get some. I usu-

ally get some, but not all the time. It just depends on how I am feeling.

Some days are good for eating candy and some days are bad. I love candy I can

eat it all the time, but I would rather not. I do not want to get cavities. But if you get the

chance, stop by and get some to enjoy for yourself.

Be sure to ask Dr. Johnson first.

Movie Review: The Boy Opinion by: Martin Padilla/ss

There are many ways I

can start this review, like telling

you that this isn’t just another

creepy doll movie, or that this

movie is nerve-wrecking, or I can

tell you the truth. The Boy is great;

it starts out a little slow, but keeps

a steady pace leading up to the end

with jump scares, and even specu-

lation of the doll’s itself.

Most of the movie is

made-up of scenes that are filled

with tension, a great cast of people

I’ve never seen, and a dark story. The trailer itself doesn’t give away

much which is something that is usually done often with horror mov-

ies.

The trailer gives us an outline of what the movie as about. A

nanny is hired to take care of a family’s son to find that it is a porce-

lain doll that she believes to be haunted. Sounds a little odd but it turns

out to be one of the best I’ve seen in 2016 so far. The movie also has a

major plot twist that comes so unexpected and revealed so perfectly.

The film also had the title changed due to some scenes that

were cut and the title made no sense. It was originally called The In-

habitant, but after the scenes were removed it was renamed, The Boy.

The original cut of the film was never rated by the MPAA but hopeful-

ly we see an Original Cut of the film later on in the DVD release.

Movie Review:

Dirty Grandpa Opinion By: Alma Atondo/ss

The movie Dirty Grandpa that stars Zac Efron will be

released Thursday January 21st, but only in certain theaters. For

example, around the Kingfisher town area, it will only be shown

at the Quail Springs mall in Edmond and the Penn Square mall in

downtown Oklahoma City.

The movie is about an uptight lawyer, Jason kelly/Zac

Efron, being one week away from marrying his Boss’s control-

ling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at his

firm. Tricked by his grandfather, Dick/ Robert De Niro, Jason

finds himself driving the foulmouthed old man to Daytona

Beach, Florida for a wild spring break that includes frat parties,

bar fights, and an epic night of karaoke.

While Jason worries about the upcoming wedding, Dick

tries to show his grandson how to live life to the fullest. I have

seen the previews of it and it seems pretty humorous. There are

some interesting actors playing in this movie: Robert De Niro,

Zac Efron, Obey Deautch, Aubrey plaza, Jason Mantzoukas,

Julianne Hough, Mo collins, Jack Picking, and Brandon Smith.

That’s just a few of the actors. I would recommend you

go watch this amazing movie with your loved ones like your fam-

ily or friends, or even a good date with your girlfriend or boy-

friend. So, remember the movie Dirty Grandpa comes out Fri-

day, January 22nd. Go and watch!

Game Review: Blade and

Soul Opinion By: Michael Sutton/ls

Blade and Soul is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer

Online Role-Playing Game) that is based in ancient China. It comes

with a small twist. Blade and Soul was released out of beta on Janu-

ary 19th, 2016. In this MMORPG you get to make a character with

several options.

When you first start to make your character you choose

your race and class. The races you can choose from are Gon, Lyn,

Yun, or Jin. The Gon are brave fighters that are very durable in com-

bat. The Lyn are very cunning creatures that show up in lore, only

because their homeland gets threatened. The Yun are mainly magic

users of a high society in lore.

The Jin are a very mysterious race. Nothing is really known

about them other than that they have really high training in anything

to do with martial arts and the ways of inner balance.

There are seven different classes you can play as, all with

their own unique play style. The Blade Master is pretty much the

samurai of this game; you specialize in a 1-handed sword style that

relies on fast strikes and ability to dodge incoming attacks. The de-

stroyer is the brute of the seven.

You specialize with a 2-handed axe, and with this class you

rely on brute force rather than speed. This is the class for people that

want to go head on without thinking. The summoner is one of the

more complicated classes as you summon minions to come to your

aid. This is a heavy support class that specializes in ranged attacks.

Force master is the other ranged class in this game.

You have hard hitting attacks unlike the summoner, you

have many different ways to play this class, and in the end you can

either run and gun (attack without standing still), or you can focus

cast and hit harder in turn for mobility loss. The kung fu master

relies on bare handed attacks hitting the pressure points of their ene-

mies and incapacitating them.

This is a very fast and quick mover that relies on tactics

and placement of your character. If you want to play this character

you need to pay attention to your game at all times. The assassin is a

very generic class and exactly what it sounds like. You have to be

sneaky like a snake and come up behind them in stealth and hit with

hard combos and strong cc’s (crowd control effects).

This is a very easy class to learn and pick up. You can

mindlessly press buttons with this class and succeed almost one hun-

dred percent of the time. The last class you can choose is called

Blade Master. It uses two, 1-handed-sword types. It is a very agile

class that deflects attacks and can cut through almost anything with

pure speed of their hands. You can plan throughout your attack and

time your attacks perfectly to stop any attacks on you.

Blade and Soul is unlike most MMORPG’s in the sense

that it does not use a mount system. Instead you have a sprint bar

that will deplete if you use it to long and it will force you to walk. It

does have a glide mechanic for air travel, but it is very slow to make

it more balanced.

You will want to travel on the ground. This game is to be

one of the biggest releases of 2016. So far, it definitely has the capa-

bility to be all that it was said it would and more. I highly recom-

mend to get it. It is free to play, but it does need a good computer to

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2nd Opinion by: Clarinda Porter/ss

Being a fan for almost

anything Hatsune Miku, I needed to

get my paws on the Project DIVA

game series. The first game ap-

peared to the public in 2009. Since

the game series started there have

been 5 main titles and 3 spin-offs.

If you don’t know who

Hatsune Miku is, she is a Vocaloid.

Vocaloid is a singing voice synthe-

sizer, therefor different humans

record vowel sounds and then later

those sounds are put together to

create the vocals of a song. Kenmo-

chi Hideki was backed by the

Yamaha Corporation to bring this

project to life.

Now, time to get down to

business. I received the 2nd Project DIVA game for Christmas, and have had trouble

caring for anything but getting a perfect score on all 66 song since that day. Forty-

seven of those songs (28 new and 19 old) can be obtained normally by playing

through the game, 9 songs are only available through Edit Mode, and 10 songs need to

be purchased from the PlayStation Network.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA is a rhythm based game, and if this is your first

time reading one of my articles then you have no idea of the fact that music runs

through me. Therefor, this game was made for me. I will spend hours at a time on my

PlayStation Portable, losing myself in music of the kawaii (cute in Japanese) life of

Hatsune Miku and her friends.

Worst Films of 2015 Opinion by: Martin Padilla/ss

Now that there is a new year upon us we may look over

all the good and all the bad films that have been brought upon us in

the last twelve months. Summer films have always been a big

thing in the film industry. During summer is their big chance to

bring in some money. 3D movies are a big seller specifically.

With a weak storyline, bad acting, and terrible screenplay, we have

San Andreas 3D.

The movie has grossed about $155 Million dollars total,

and with the film being 3D tickets sell at a higher price so that’s

easier to get. As far as the movie goes the special effects were fair-

ly good but, in my opinion, the rest of the film was terrible story

wise. It was visually pleasing, but that doesn’t matter when your

film’s plot is built around an earthquake that destroys a whole city.

Now, lets talk about some terrible directors rather than

films, specifically M. Night Shyamalan. Many people have

brought praise to his latest film “The Visit”, a poorly written story

brought to us by the man who ruined “The Last Airbender” for all

children. The plot involves two siblings going to visit their grand-

parents and things start getting a little weird.

The story unfolds with bad camera angles, terrible acting,

and bad screenplay and people thought it was great! He wrote “The

Sixth Sense” a tremendous supernatural film that sparked his ca-

reer in filmmaking. There have been many talks about this being

the return of Shyamalan, I disagree. It’s definitely not his worst

movie, but that doesn't mean it’s good either.

This next film was talked about for weeks on the internet.

Social networking like Twitter raved about Unfriended in regards

of how scary it was going to be. Over-Hyped all over the web, the

trailer shared over a thousand times on some major social networks

but it was incredibly boring.

Tips for Writing Fiction

By: Robert Haynes/kk

So for those of you who are planning on writing your story

these tips may be very useful.

Step One: work on your draft as much as possible and make sure you

don't have things such as plot holes, inaccuracies and things like that.

Also, as a bit of a side note, if you have a close friend whom

you trust to tell the story to, they can help critique flaws and things

that you yourself may not have noticed.

Step Two: make sure you stick with your tone. A lot of times people

have problems with random tonal shifts. If you don't know what tone

in a story is basically a tone is how you make your audience feels…

which is a very good thing.

So basically to make good tonal shifts you should first in-

spect you’re genre characterization and setting. In other words having

a happy tone in a post-apocalyptic movie wouldn't be such a good

idea if done wrong.

Step Three: Don’t make your protagonist boring and uninteresting to

read or watch. It is common to have stories that have crappy protago-

nists and awesome side characters. It’s been done lots of times and it

really bogs down the story.

A writer should at least should focus on the protagonist most

because the story is essentially relying on the main characters actions

and interactions to be interesting.

Step Four: use other stories as inspiration particularly ones you like

the most. While it is great to be original nowadays its practically im-

possible to be 100% original because almost everything has been

done.

So basically it’s okay to have elves or vampires in your story

but not Jedis unless you’re writing Star Wars fan fiction.

Step Five: If you are going to have romance in your story, please don't

be like Twilight and have a boring romance make the characters love

on another for more than just their looks and blank stares.

Step Six: have an interesting antagonist or goal this is quite important.

A lot of fiction suffers from having characters doing stuff or fighting

someone or something because the plot demands it.

Step Seven: don't become like George Lucas and think all of your

work is good like “nuff said.”

Step Eight: accept criticism. Just do it.

Step Eight: if Stephanie Meyer is your idol you should rethink your

writing skills.

Step Nine: if you’re writing a horror story please be scary.

Step Ten: use all of the other steps.

Thank you for reading and may your future writing career be long and

prosperous.

Jalisco’s Fiesta

Opinion by: Alma Padilla/ss

Acatic! One of the most beauti-

ful towns in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

As a matter of fact, i’ll be going there in a

few days.

February 3 of every year is “El

Dia de La Virgen de Candelaria”. On this

day we celebrate our Lady Candelaria for

all her blessings. As the days get closer to

February 3, People celebrate in the fiestas.

There will be parades, firework

castles, banda, confetti wars, mudding and

rodeos! The whole town gets together to

celebrate this special day. This will be my

first year going to the fiesta to celebrate.

The main place where every-

body gets together is the Plaza. The Plaza

has different stores and there are restau-

rants on every corner. In the middle of the

Plaza is a Quiosco.

The Quiosco is used for the

band to play in. Everybody gets around

and enjoys the music or they just walk

around it with friends looking for dance

partners.

This time of the year is very

known for its fiestas and fun activites. If

you ever get a chance to visit Mexico I

recommend you to go to Acatic. You

wont regret it!

Oldest Living Man

Dies By: Andrea Jimenez/kk

Yasutaro Koide, also known as the

world's oldest living man, is dead. Koide

has died at the age of 112. Just last year,

Guinness World Records had recognized

him for being the oldest man alive. Yasutaro

Koide was born on March of 1903. This was

months before the Wright Brothers made the

world's first powered flight.

He passed to a better life early

Tuesday in the Japanese city of Nagoya.

This was five months after Guinness pre-

sented him with the certificate of his title.

Koide was a former tailor from Tsuruga,

Japan. He had moved to Nagoya to be with

his daughter about five years ago.

However, Koide has not been the

oldest man recognized by Guinness. Jeanne

Calment was 122 years and 164 days old

when he passed away in 1997. Calment was

from France and so far has been the oldest

person ever to be recognized by Guinness

World Records.

Wow! I'll be lucky enough if I

make it to 50. The world-keeping organiza-

tion will announce Koide's successor as

oldest living man one all the information

process is finished and verified.

The Cross Opinion By: Carson Racer/kk

It is America and there are crosses everywhere. It is Amer-

ica and most of us are religious.

It was during some low time after eating Christmas dinner

and in the antebellum before presents were opened that I was pon-

dering the cross. My grandparents have a reproduction Thomas

Kinkade painting on the wall in the corner of the living room. It

shows a mountain and a massive cross-planted at its summit. I imag-

ine it is named something clever like The Cross or God or How I

Gave Up Smoking (The Power of Christ Solves All Problems). First I

was thinking about how painful dying at the cross is and how I still

would rather be crucified then listen to another minute of what eve-

rybody is grateful for. Among the most prominent answers included

the responses “not dying brutally in a car wreck that never occurred”

and “giving up the booze and sticking with the big G in the clouds”.

The next thought I had about the cross was its shape. It is

always portrayed as a lowercase t in the Christian faith though it has

been proven that the Romans used crucifixes that looked more like

the uppercase T with no plank of wood above the crossbar where the

arms were tied. I thought for a long time as I waned into glucose

coma from all of the pecan pie I shamelessly shoved down my throat

about why a people would portray the cross of Christ himself as dif-

ferent to the rest of the crosses. That detail about the cross never

aligned with the rest of the aspects of the Jesus story.

If nothing else his death was spectacular in nature. He was

tortured and nursed back to health and then tortured again. Sacher-

Masoch himself couldn’t have written something half as steamy as

that if he tried with all of his dirty wit. People like to imagine that

Jesus withstood some amount of damage that other people would die

in the process of receiving. His death was not in any fashion a stand-

ard crucifixion job. The Romans really had a vendetta against this

guy. The aspect of his cross having an extra piece of wood at the top

of the arms, this Christ’s headrest if you will, then doesn’t coincide

with the other features of his death. This piece of wood would’ve

made his suffering some bit less. It would’ve been a place for him to

rest his tired head. If the Romans hated him then why did they give

him this one thing to make him feel less pain?

The other answer is that they didn’t, that we imagined later

that he had this one feature which would alleviate a portion, no mat-

ter how small, of his pain from his burdened body, that we imagined

Christ on his cross as in some way not suffering, not feeling any

pain.

My question, do humans have a natural propensity to imag-

ine their idols, their gods, and their celebrities as without pain? That

is to say, do we imagine them as better than pain, being aloof of the

effects of feeling suffering? As Jesus died he had this small plank of

wood to rest his head on. Did he suffer? When Christ was whipped

and flayed and he was given his stigmata, did he suffer? If you think

of Jesus as but a normal man confused for a messiah then did his

delusions cure him of his pain? If you believe that he was the child

of god then did god absolve him of feeling hurt?

CONTINUED ON PAGE 12

Page 12: Kingfisher High School Stinger 01/26/2016

January 26, 2016

CROSS -CONTINUED FROM PAGE 11

You could claim that if Jesus didn’t

truly suffer then the idea that he suffered and

as such we don’t have to fails, this basic ten-

ant of Christianity.

In response to this I ask another

question. Is their finite suffering in the

world? If there were a trillion humans would

we share the same amount of pain across us

all as we do now with seven or so billion?

We seem to have this ideology of an eye for

an eye, this barter system of logic in place

where if Christ never suffered then he re-

moved no suffering from our future shoul-

ders.

That is not how “pain” works, that

is, not how doctors work. When you have a

pain and you go to a doctor and they cure

you of your pain they don’t somehow take

the sensation of hurting and give it to some-

one else. They simply alleviate it from your

body.

Could Christ have done just the

same thing, simply alleviated some hurt from

ever occurring? Why couldn’t Christ have

simply removed some chunk of the pain from

the pool of human existence instead of him-

self suffering for the pain of us? If you be-

lieve, such as I, that there is finite suffering

to be had in this world, then Christ could

have simply taken a piece of suffering away

from us and left us as a whole in the future of

human existence as without that piece of

hurt.

You could say that the crucifixion

was symbolic in a way, as pretentious as that

sounds. That in some way, rather through

delusion or deity inference, that he never

suffered on his death pike. What if Christ felt

no pain? Does that invalidate the action that

he supposedly removed a piece of suffering

from our current lives? Would it be a more

noble gesture to take upon a massive burden

of pain to help the people of the world then

the gesture of simply eradicating that piece

of suffering? There is then the next issue I

have.

I’m not certain that we are better as

a people without that piece of suffering still

had. We, as humans, as creatures of Earth,

learn from pain some incomprehensible

amount about how to live. You touch the

stove. You feel pain. You learn and as such

are better as a person. If in this figurative

stance that I assume Jesus took pain from our

lives, did he make our lives better for it? You

could say that he made us a less knowledgea-

ble people because of his action.

That is, one may say, the experienc-

es of life and how most of our meaning in

life is centered in pain. You at some point in

your life have probably wanted something so

badly that it hurt. It was an emotional pain,

but it felt as visceral as any knife could do.

Our motivations in life come as wants and

pains.

Still, knowing that fact most would

say that Jesus would’ve been doing a good

thing by removing that facet of human hurt

from our universe.

That is because I believe we all

have a Christ’s Headrest. We want to imag-

ine Christ in some way without pain, but we

also like to imagine ourselves just the same.

In a fashion we imagine ourselves, in opti-

mistic light, as beings that are better suited to

a life with less pain. Just as the idea resides

in the logic that we like to imagine Christ

painless, we like to imagine ourselves in

utopia with no pain. That hypothesis I feel

logically stems from opposites. We don’t

enjoy pain in a very direct way. It is human

nature to hate pain.

Thus in a world that is comprised

almost exclusively of pain would be a com-

pletely miserable life. In a play of opposites

we derive the logic that a life without pain

(the pain of angst and guilt, among other

emotional pains) would be a world akin to

utopia.

And that is why I support the com-

monplace prescribing by the medical profes-

sion of pain relieving medications. They are

what we should call Jesus today.

These medications, I be-

lieve, function as a staple of the

modern psychiatric community as

well as the religious community, for

they are today what religion has been

in the past.

German Philosopher Karl

Marx said, “religion is the opiate of

the masses.” Let the modern pre-

scription medications of the world

play into our perception of god.

For if you believe that

someplace in the history of the world

there should be a Christ’s headrest,

modern medications could then be

that headrest.

Oscar 2016 Boycott By Angry Actors By Andrea Jimenez/kk

The Academy Awards (Oscars) are

one of the most anticipated and watched

awards program on TV.

Everyone will be watching and

many will be hoping for an award. However,

this year some things aren't going as ex-

pected. Charlotte Rampling called the Oscars

2016 "racist against white people" due to the

boycotts that have been happening.

Why are celebrities boycotting the

Oscars this year? For the simple fact that all

the nominees are white. Not one single black

actress or actor has been nominated for this

prestigious award. In fact, it’s the second year

in a row that this has happened

Rampling told France's Europe 1

radio that "maybe the black actors didn't de-

serve to be in the final stretch." Other actors

like Michael Caine urged black actors to "be

patient."

He told the BBC that there were

many strong non-white performances. Caine

mentioned Idris Elba's "wonderful" work in

"Beasts of No Nation." It did not receive an

Oscar nomination.

Jada Pinkett Smith was the first to tweet about this situation. She tweeted:

,"At the Oscars… people of color always welcomed to give out awards… even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic ac-

complishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together?"

She has a pretty good point but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
