What is the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)?
The EYFS describes the time in your child’s life between
birth and age 5.
Our Nursery caters for children between 3 and 4 years.
Being in the Nursery is a very important stage as it helps
children get ready for school as well preparing them for their
learning and successes

Khalsa Primary School
Our aims are:
To provide a rich and stimulating environment where children’s
emotional, social and intellectual needs are met. The children are
treated as individuals and encouraged, supported and challenged
to make sense of the world
To ensure that the children develop a love for learning
To promote equality of opportunity through all areas of learning
To introduce the children to the Sikh faith
-
EYFS framework
The framework was developed to support all professionals working
in the EYFS
In 2012 the framework was revised to make it clearer and easier to
use. There is greater emphasis on the role played by parents /
carers
The framework
- highlights the 7 areas of learning and development
- details assessments which will tell parents / carers
about their child’s progress through the EYFS
- expected levels that your child should reach at age 5, known as
Early Learning Goals (ELGs)

In the EYFS, children will learn skills, acquire new
knowledge and demonstrate their understanding through
7 areas of learning and development
Children should develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:
Communication and language
Physical development
Personal, social and emotional development
As the children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop
4 specific areas. These are:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design
