UPDATES

INFORMATION ON EXAMS

GCSEs 2019/20

The past few weeks have been extremely unsettling for students and families. We have now re-ceived information from the examination regulator Ofqual on the process for awarding GCSE grades to students. Over the next few weeks teachers will be asked to submit predicted grades for all of the subjects the students have been studying. These grades will be based on a range of criteria and not just mock examination results including: Classwork In class assignments and assessments Mock Examination grades General progress throughout the course It is therefore important students continue to complete the work they are being set through Mi-crosoft Teams to the best of their ability as this work may be used to inform the predicted grades being awarded. Additionally; by continuing to work diligently they will continue to de-velop skills required in the next stages of their education. These grades will be sent to the examination boards who will perform a range of statistical cal-culations to derive the student’s final grades. In line with Ofqual guidelines students and parents will not be able to see the grades sent to the examination boards. This information is confidential so I kindly ask you not to request this in-formation from any of the teachers or the school. The current guidance from Ofqual suggests the final results will be published no later than the original GCSE results date – 20th August 2020. As soon as we have a confirmed date you will be informed. The examination boards are all working together to identify a suitable timeslot after the release of the summer 2020 GCSE grades in which to offer additional examinations during the autumn term. You will be informed of the dates of these examinations once they are published. You should be reassured the grades the students receive this summer will look exactly the same as in previous years, and they will have equal status with colleges, universities and employers to help them move forward in their lives as planned.

SECONDARY HOME LEARNING

Year 9 have responded to their brief to design and make a bag from recycled materials using CAD (Computer Aided Design) CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) with hand stitched details. This term they have learned about plastic pollution in the oceans and researched how designers are responding to climate change with sustainable ideas of up cycling fabrics and creating new ones. Thank you to all the families that have made contributions to the textile depart-ment and helping towards our zero waste initiative.

Syed - Joker inspired design

Lewis—bag design using CAD; he has added a woven, woolen central design detail, on aqua droplet sublimated fabric highlighted with running stitch, double black outline with soft, blue glow and ultramarine handle. He will use the school's new sublimating machine to create one of his fabrics.

Satjeet - has used CAD (Com puter Aided Design) for a 100% recycled cotton tote bag, clean lines, great use of monochrome and on trend colour detail of leafy green.

Komalpreet—has hand stitched a monochrome credit card accessory with cross stitch embellish-ment, contrasting running stitch joining the fabric with big button detail. She has used felt which is a natural, sustain-able fabric made from sheep's wool.

Kheer

• Kheer is Indian rice pudding made with only three basic ingredients-rice, milk and sugar. And I think that’s the reason it is so commonly made in India because the basic ingredients are so readily available everywhere. To make vegan kheer just swap the regular milk with almond milk and it would taste just as good.

• I added rose water, almonds and pistachio nuts

• Happy Vaisakhi from Mrs. Shoker

NOTICE

COVID-19: PROVISION at SEVA SCHOOL

In Seva School’s effort to support the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we joined schools across the country in partially closing our school to most of our children on Monday 23rd March until further notice. This was followed by measures to support pupils to continue their learning from home; to stay connected and to stay safe. We are proud to acknowledge that we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with all front-line workers in the UK and across the world at this time. In this endeavour we opened our doors to children of critical key workers and to families with children deemed vulnerable. To ensure the health of all pupils and staff was taken into consideration we put the measures described in the para-graphs below into action. We thank you for your support in these matters. Our school is open to children of critical key workers including those who work in the NHS, emergency services, food delivery services and military personnel. To see the full list and infor-mation in many languages including Panjabi follow the URL: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance. This is where both parents are within these groups and there is no alternative childcare provision available or that they are a single parent. In situations where one parent is in these groups and one is not, it is expected that the non-critical key worker will care for their child/children at home. Parents of children who are allowed to drop their child(ren) off at school, because they fall within the critical key worker category, must bring in proof of occupation and confirmation that their place of work is still open. Consideration beyond this will be given to families who have critical key workers within them on a case by case basis. Families of children who are within the vulnerable groups categories have been contacted individually. In the interests of health we are not permitted to receive parents in the school building and they must stand 2 metres away from the school gate at drop off and collection. The school opening and closing times are as follows: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 08:30 to 16:15 and Wednesday and Friday 08:30 to 15:15. Seva School staff are working on a rota system to su-pervise children whilst on site. To support us in planning for the staff supervision rota we would be very grateful if parents of those that qualify email [email protected] at least 24 hours in advance of the booking to confirm their child’s place. This will be the pro-cedure until a new system is introduced to replace it. In the interests of reducing risk of cross infection we are requesting that all children bring in a vegetarian packed lunch with a bottle of water. Children who are entitled to FSM have been issued with vouchers. For security reasons, children are requested to wear school uniform with trainers. All of the above measures have been put in place to keep every child and staff member safe and healthy. This provision at Seva School is accurate at the point of publication and is subject to change in line with new govern-ment and Local authority guidance and arrangements.
