Our new topic this week is the ‘Great Outdoors’. We will be exploring lots of things to do with outside and to start we are looking at a new story. Before you listen to the story there are some questions to explore.

Look at the book cover on the purple mash blog and then answer the comprehension questions, sharing them on the blog if you like:

1. What do you see on the cover? 2. What season is it? 3. How can you tell? 4. Where are the kids going?

5. Read the title. Have you ever hunted for leaves or gone on a hike?

Year 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W86K1jBJFI Watch the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Can you retell the story in your own words?

Today you are going to explore the use of expanded noun phrases. Watch the following clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fCk8ye4jio Can you write five different expanded noun sentences about the story of Little Red Riding Hood? For example – The naughty, scary wolf tried to eat Little Red Riding Hood. Record your sentences using Purple Mash.

Tuesday 23rd June

Year 1

Now you have explored the idea of the story and the cover, listen to the story being read to you on our youtube page. Can you follow the story using actions? The children in the story are carrying rucksacks. What could they have in them?

Think about what the children might be carrying in their rucksacks for their trip. Imagine you were going on this journey, what would you pack? Draw a picture of it and then describe what you have put in and why on purple mash.

Year 2

Familiarise yourself again with the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Can you hear any expanded nouns in the story?

What lunch would you take to granny? Design granny a tasty meal. Use expanded nouns to describe. Can you use commas for lists as well? For example: I made granny a giant bowl of tasty strawberries, juicy pineapple and blueberries.

Wed’ 24th June

Year 1

Tomorrow we are going to be thinking about describing a setting based on our story. A setting is where a story takes place and there can be a number of different settings during a story. Today we are going to re-cap days of the week and times of the day spellings

Let’s remind ourselves how to write the days of the week in order with this activity: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zm9hscw

Then complete the spelling quiz on purple mash.

Year 2

Have you got your own version of Little Red Riding Hood at home? Maybe you can find the book and look through the pictures. If not, click on this link for another version of the story. https://www.dltk-teach.com/rhymes/littlered/story.htm

Little Red Riding Hood has to go through the woods to get to Granny’s house. What is her journey like? Is it dark in the woods? Does she walk or skip? Is it a sunny day? Does she pass a stream? Are there lots of flowers? Use the storyboard template to plan Little Red Riding Hood’s journey.

Thursday 25th June

P.E: Play this outdoor game:

Red Light, Green Light

This is a simple and fun outdoor game that doesn’t

require any setup or accessories. It’s great for a small

or large group of kids.

How to play: 1. One person is designated as the "stoplight."

The stoplight stands with his back toward the other players, who stand about 15 to 20

feet away from him.

2. The stoplight calls out "green light!" which

signals the players to begin moving toward him. Then the stoplight yells, "red light!" and turns around. If any player is caught

moving when the stoplight turns around, that player is out.

3. The game is over if all the players are out before anyone reaches the stoplight or if

someone tags the stoplight. If a player reaches the stoplight, that person gets to be the stoplight in the next game
