OUR VISION A WORLD IN WHICH YOUTH AND ADULTS LEARN, GROW, AND WORK TOGETHER AS CATALYSTS FOR POSTIVE CHANGE
IMPORTANT SWINE INFORMATION, PLEASE READ!!
Tyson, JBS, Smithfield and Cargill has joined many of the other packers in the US, moving to a program where no pigs com-ing to the plant have ever been exposed to Paylean (Ractopamine). In the past many 4-Hers have used Paylean to increase muscle deposition and growth rates in the pigs. With African Swine Fever rampant in China our pork exports from the US
have increased substantially to that country. China does not allow Paylean (Ractopamine) to be fed to pigs. They will be testing incoming carcasses for any trace of Paylean and WOULD REJECT THE ENTIRE SHIP LOAD IF JUST ONE SAMPLE WAS POSITIVE. Please be mindful of this new requirement.”
Keokuk County Expo

Carcass is still mandatory for all swine. We will be using a new updated carcass data formula that is being
used at State Fair.
● NO PAYLEAN IS ALLOWED TO BE FED TO SWINE 4-H/FFA SWINE EXHIBITING AT THE KEOKUK COUNTY
EXPO FAIR. EXPO’S HOG BUYER WILL NOT PURCHASE OUR PIGS IF FED PAYLEAN! EVIDENCE OF PAYLEAN WILL CAUSE REJECTION OF THE ENTIRE LOAD AT PACKING PLANT, PINELIZING EVERYONE. NO ONE WILL BE PAID FOR THEIR SWINE IF THIS HAPPENS!!
● Derby class is optional. Not required as in the past. This class is sorted by beginning spring weigh-in
weight.
● 4Her’s may show up to 5 individual pigs. Only 1 pen per 4Her Exhibitor you may divide within own pen and
